Item #: 3???
Object Class: Euclid
Threat Level: ● Yellow
Special Containment Procedures: Pet stores that have produced instances of SCP-3### are to be bought out and promptly closed to the general public. Said front is to regularly stock said store, to keep the illusion of it being open. At least once every few days, several D-Class Personnel and Researchers are to shop from the stores, as to increase the chances of a manifestation event. During a manifestation event, the imprinted D-Class person or researcher is to be moved to a specialized enclosure, designed to care for the entity. Upon determining the safety of what form has been generated by the entity, D-Class are to be given more dangerous instances, whereas staff deal with more passive instances. To force the transfer of it to another owner and bind it, it seems merely the thought of giving it up for adoption will elicit this, causing it to move to what it assumes to be it's new SCP-3###-A instance.
Requests for anomalous care items are to be given on a trial basis, due to the danger posed by some requests. Anything that may pose a possible containment breach will require the termination of the current instance, as well as it's associated D-Class person. As of present, 185 instances exist in Foundation care. Future instances are to be either bought or destroyed, depending on the form it has taken.
During a transportation event, personnel are to scower a radius of 100 kilometers for the instance's new form, centered around the store it was previously seen in.
Instances can be transported worldwide without issue, but in order to "bind" them to a specific area, they must be placed in a pet store in the desired region. In this case, they will manifest in a 100 kilometer radius around the store they were placed in.
"Wild" instances are to be destroyed by Mobile Task Force Eta 10 ("See No Evil"), and Class A amnestics are to be aerosolized in the general area.
Description: SCP-3### is a shapeshifting entity, commonly found in the pet trade. Instances of SCP-3### commonly assumes the form of what the viewer deems "cute". As a result of this, it has often assumed the forms of organisms thought to be extinct, or organisms that should not exist. Most of the time however, the entity usually takes the form of a small mammal or avian.
SCP-3### usually manifests in pet stores, and when an individual has bought the organism, SCP-3### imprints onto the individual. The resultant individual is dubbed SCP-3###-A.
Instances of SCP-3###-A seem to share some telepathic bond with the organism, with it compelling its "owner" to often buy anomalous objects to care for it. Instances of SCP-3###-A will go to any lengths possible to obtain the product. This has ranged from simple things such as a slate slab to wear down an instance's nails, all the way up to, in one instance, [DATA-EXPUNGED]. If SCP-3###-A fails to obtain the care item within 48 hours, their imprinted instance of SCP-3### will become increasingly more and more hostile, until the object is delivered, at which point, hostilities cease.
Instances of SCP-3###-A become increasingly more and more obsessed with the care of their instance, and usually end up dying within 9 months, as a result of non-anomalous complications resulting from their obsession. During this time frame, the instance becomes more and more demanding of attention from it's associated SCP-3###-A instance, and will go to bizarre lengths to get attention, with known attention-seeking behaviors ranging from behaviors such as simply biting or chewing on objects in it's enclosure, to extreme cases, causing serious injury in another being. One D-Class individual had their instance, taking the form of a Palm Cockatoo (Probosciger aterrimus), tear the clothes off of another individual, in a bid to get attention from their respective SCP-3###-A instance. Said D-Class person had been spending quite a bit of time with this individual before their instance attacked.
Instances of SCP-3### have been noted to rapidly decay after their owner's death, with an appearance that almost appears "forlorn" or "sad" by some. This process of decay takes place over the course of 6 – 10 hours, and upon losing 45% of it's original mass, it will cease all movement. Genetic testing of said instances have yielded mixed results. Organisms that should not exist appear to be chimaeric in nature, whereas organisms that exist normally are identical to their non-anomalous counterparts. Tests are underway for instances that have assumed the forms of extinct organisms.
Instances of SCP-3### appear to be reality-warping to some extent, causing viewers to accept the organism as a normal occurrence, even if it should not exist. As a result, it is believed there may be many more uncontained instances.
Addendum 1:
Researchers have cataloged various attention-seeking behaviors from these organisms, and have set up a table below, containing various known behaviors, as well as their associated instance.
| Instance Manifestation and SCP-3###-A Number | Attention-seeking behavior | Outcome and Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SCP-3###-A-11's instance of SCP-3### manifested as a | test | test |
| SCP-3###-A-27's instance of SCP-3### manifested as an unidentified species of songbird, presumably a Cardueline. | SCP 3###-A-27 became more and more agitated, and seemed revolted at the thought of giving it's associated instance bleach, to quench it's thirst. As a result, his associated instance of SCP-3### began to become more and more aggressive, banging it's head against walls in frustration, while plucking out it's own feathers. Eventually, it began to claw at the eyes of anyone entering it's containment chamber, until one (3.5) liter bottle of bleach was brought into the room. | Upon ingesting the bleach, the instance appeared pacified. "What the fuck?" - Dr. ??? |
| SCP-3###-A-36's instance of SCP-3### manifested as a Guinea Pig. | [REDACTED] | Instance of SCP-3### was destroyed via incineration, and SCP-3###-A-36 was terminated. "No." - Dr. ???? |

Addendum 2:
During regular capture of instances, and their associated SCP-3###-A, one instance, taking the form of a Sun Conure (Aratinga solstitialis), displayed higher than usual levels of intelligence, even among it's own species.
This instance was briefly detained, and placed in a room for testing.
Procedure 1: Spatial abilities
Instance was placed in
Procedure 2: Self-awareness
A red sticker was placed on the throat of the instance. A handheld mirror, with dimensions of 28 x 20 x 4 cm, was then brought into the enclosure, and held by a staff member. The instance gazed at the mirror for approximately 15 seconds, before attempting to remove the sticker. The same test was repeated with blue, green, and yellow stickers, all eliciting the same response.
Researcher's Notes: The instance did not appear to be bothered by the presence of the stickers until the mirror was shown. Unfortunately, testing on normal members of it's species is… inconclusive. We're the fucking foundation and we have no studies on god damn self-awareness in a commonly kept parrot.
Procedure 3: Memory
Procedure 4:
Procedure 5: Language
Due to said instance seemingly being able to vocalize in English, plus one, unknown language, a set of (26) cubes, each corresponding to a character from the Latin alphabet were placed in the room. Upon the construction of a word, which was signalled by the instance bowing it's head, the cubes would be shuffled once more.
Instance grabbed several cubes, and managed to arranged them into several words, over the course of 30 minutes.
"fod"
"sad"
"human"
"alone"
"nevr"
"alwys"
The instance then rearranged the cubes to form the word "alone" once more, and huddled around the cubes, hissing and biting at any researchers who came too close.
Researcher's Notes: Do they, collectively, feel lonely? I am assigning personnel to look for signs of higher intelligence in instances that crop up in the future, despite the epehemeral nature of this SCP.
