Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Keter Neutralized
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the size of SCP-XXXX it cannot be contained, but is to be heavily monitored and any non-foundation personnel are to be guided through by foundation selected guides. Since SCP-XXXX’s classification is “Safe” it is ok for both foundation and non-foundation personnel to visit SCP-XXXX. Any non-foundation personnel found within SCP-XXX are to be detained, questioned, and given class C amnestics. Thermal cameras are to be monitored 24/7, sounds of the native prayer towards the spirit of fire, (not exceeding 40dB) are to be sent out into SCP-XXXX, and seismic readings are to be checked 5 times a week for any anomalous properties. If any change is noticed follow the following protocols:
[A team of 4 must be sent into SCP-XXXX with at least one member from MTF Epsilon-8, or Frost Bite, in order to locate and subdue the aforementioned anomaly in order to stop another Sunshine event from occurring.]
[3 members of MTF Gamma-6, or Deep feeders, is to be sent into Lake Tahoe with at least 1 Bos Taurus, or Bull, to subdue SCP-XXXX-L. If SCP-XXX-2 is seen at the lake, disregard protocol, leave the animal(s) with SCP-XXXX-2, and return to base. If SCP-XXXX-3 is seen at the docks ask it “Have you caught anything?” if the answer is no, proceed with protocol, if the answer is yes, disregard protocol and return to base. Ignore and questions or statements from SCP-XXXX-3.]
[If any voice resembling that of SCP-XXXX-1 is picked up, all sound equipment is to be disconnected and all personnel that heard the voice are to be detained and sent to Site-22 for psychological evaluation.]
If a Sunshine event occurs all personnel must call in MTF Epsilon-8 to the location of the event.
Note from DR. Gran: Even though SCP-XXXX is classified as “Neutralized,” we still need to be weary of its capabilities of possibly starting another Sunshine event; seeing how fires are becoming more frequent in the surrounding areas.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a large strip of forested area in California covering areas from Lassen National Forest to Sequoia National Forest. There are several trails leading into SCP-XXXX, and all are blocked off with foundation checkpoints. SCP-XXXX contains various types of animals most of which are not native to California such as polar bears and penguins. SCP-XXXX also hosts various type of flora native, not native, and extinct are seen throughout the various trails. Due to the Nova event all flora and fauna that SCP-XXXX housed are now gone, except SCP-XXXX-1’s home.
SCP-XXXX-1 is an elderly male of the Paiute Tribe, who lives in a wooden hut in the Yosemite National Forest. At approximately 13:30 every day, SCP-XXXX-1’s will leave its house, sit on the porch, and tell stories. Stories vary from Native folklore, SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-L, SCP-XXXX-2, SCP-XXXX-3, and one of his favorites titled █████, which was later found out to be stories of Sunshine events. After the Nova event, SCP-XXXX-1 has ceased to leave his home. All attempts to enter his house after expedition XXXX-A have yielded no results.
SCP-XXXX-2 is a diver with a black wet suit, blue flippers, blue goggles, and a yellow oxygen tank. According to SCP-XXXX-1’s stories both SCP-XXXX-2 and SCP-XXXX-3 are worshipers of SCP-XXXX-L who sacrificed themselves to forever serve SCP-XXXX-L. SCP-XXXX-2 never speaks and because of it's wet suit and goggles we cannot identify much of its physical characteristics. It was later discovered that SCP-XXXX-2 offers up the animal(s) to SCP-XXXX-L only on specific days and appeases SCP-XXXX-2 longer than with conventional means.
SCP-XXXX-3 is a Caucasian middle aged male with a straw hat, white shirt, blue jeans, and sandals. It uses a bamboo fishing pole and will have a red tackle box next to him. SCP-XXXX-3 was apparently a recruiter for the cult and anyone who converses with SCP-XXXX-3, outside of regulated questions, will immediately jump into the water and either drowns or is eaten by SCP-XXXX-L.
Level 3 clearance is required in order to see documents regarding SCP-XXXX-L
SCP-XXXX-L is a large subaquatic creature living within Lake Tahoe. The actual size of SCP-XXXX-L is unknown due to low visibility; although it is theorized to be a Leviathan level creature. Stories from SCP-XXXX-1 say it’s a water spirit who is at war with the Spirit of The Sacred Fire. According to SCP-XXXX-1 if the two spirits meet the entire state will be destroyed. Due to this information a special watch tower with seismographs was made to monitor SCP-XXXX-L’s activity and is trying to keep the 2 beings from coming into contact. When questioned about the “Spirit of The Sacred Fire” SCP-XXXX-1 said it was SCP-XXXX itself.
Addendum:
The first Sunshine event happened off site in San Diego County in 1943 destroying 13,145 acres and killing 11 people. At the time the correlation between SCP-XXXX-1’s stories and the wild fire was not noticed, but was under investigation. It wasn’t until the fire in Inyo County in 2002, and the second fire in San Diego in 2003, that the correlation was realized. After these events SCP-XXXX was upgraded to Keter class and all non-foundation visitors are forbidden to enter by orders of O5, and MTF Epsilon-8 was founded to combat and prevent occurring events. Up to the Nova event SCP-XXXX has been the cause of 13 wildfires, killing over 100 people. False information was given to the media in order to cover up the true nature of SCP-XXXX.
The Nova event occurred in 2018 when SCP-XXXX “self destructed” by setting itself on fire, burning everything. MTF Epsilon-8 was dispatched and kept the fire from spreading beyond site limits. Several teams were sent into SCP-XXXX to determine the damage, and check on SCP-XXXX-1. It was discovered that its house was unharmed with no structural damage of any kind being detected. When trying to enter SCP-XXXX-1’s house the team was confronted by ash men. (See expedition log XXXX-A) Since the Nova event SCP-XXXX has been reclassified as “Neutralized."
Team Oxford approaches cabin.
Crox: Alright target in sight; you getting command?
Site Command: Yes we are, please proceed.
Crox: Copy. Alright, approach with caution.
Oxford team reaches porch where SCP-XXXX-1 usually sits to tell its stories. Voices are picked up.
Austin: Sir, I can hear someone on the other side of the door.
Crox: Hold on; command, request to enter building.
Site Command: Hold on. (long pause) Permission granted, proceed with caution.
Crox: Affirmative. Alright kick it down!
Austin proceeds with knocking down the door and the team rushes on to find SCP-XXXX-1 asleep on a bed and 3 “ash men,” surrounding him. One of them turns to face the men.
Ash man: Do not wake him.
Crox: And why shouldn’t I?
Ash man: For he is not ready. A host was finally connected and if he wakes now disaster will strike.
Hong: What are you talking about?
Ash man: The spirit has become one with is worshipper. Now leave or you will join us.
Austin: And why the hell-
Crox: Austin, relax! Command what’s the call?
Site Command: Return for now. We will report our findings and will decide on what to do next.
Crox: Affirmative, men we are heading out.
As the team leaves a faint voice similar to that of SCP-XXXX-1 is heard. After about 10 minutes Hong complains about smelling smoke, and his mask was later checked for malfunction. The next day when planning for a new expedition Hong spontaneously burst into flames. All efforts to put out the flames yielded no result.
