SCP-XXXX

rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Upon the appearance of an SCP-XXXX instance, Mobile Task Force Sigma-XII ("Timekeepers") will be dispatched. Their primary objective, in the event an instance appears in a populated area, will be to evacuate all civilians and direct them to Foundation personnel to be administered Class-C amnestics and relocated to the nearest available neighbouring settlement, or in extenuating circumstances (see Report Log #03) to be reunited with other immediate family members. Following this, a perimeter around the entire settlement, or at a radius of 2km around the instance if located in an unpopulated area, must be established and maintained indefinitely until the instance disappears. A secondary perimeter directly around the area covered by the instance must also be established and maintained.

Only personnel with Level-3 Clearance will be granted access to any data regarding SCP-XXXX or to the area guarded by MTF Sigma-XII. All research into SCP-XXXX must be authorised and supervised by the lead researcher, Dr. Richard ███████ of Site-██. As a precaution, one researcher under the direction of Dr. ███████ must be present on the site of an instance at all times. Any humans trapped within an instance of SCP-XXXX that are released upon its closing are to be taken in by the Foundation for standard questioning before being administered Class-A amnestics and reintegrated into society with a fabricated life history devised by the Foundation.

Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX it cannot be moved to a secure facility, therefore, establishing and maintaining a security perimeter and suppressing knowledge of all instances from the public is the only containment measure available to the Foundation. This, combined with the unpredictable appearances of SCP-XXXX instances and the possibility of a gargantuan instance appearing requiring a large-scale operation, grants it Keter status.

Description: SCP-XXXX has been dubbed a "Time Fracture" by the lead researcher. These fractures encompass a random portion of space in the shape of an irregular polyhedron. Instances of SCP-XXXX appear at random and remain present for a random period of time. There has been no observable change in size or shape of a fracture for the duration it is open. When an instance appears it does so instantly and immediately exerts its effect upon everything within its boundary.

The area within the fracture is, according to Dr. ███████'s initial report on the first recorded instance of SCP-XXXX, "frozen in time" - the passage of time is non-existent within the area of the fracture, while there is no observable temporal distortion in the immediate proximity of the fracture. Any matter, organic or non-organic, encompassed by a fracture will not exhibit any observable change of state while within, and will not decay for as long as the fracture is open. Any living organism caught within the fracture when it opens will experience an instantaneous alteration in their surroundings from the moment immediately prior to the opening to the moment immediately after its closing (in the case of humans this will result in an uncanny increase in a person's recorded lifespan that would include the length of time trapped within the fracture).

It is possible that only parts of objects or organisms be caught within a fracture upon its opening, in which case, the portion of the object or organism within will be severed from the remaining portion. This will often result in near instant death to any organism that is affected in this way by SCP-XXXX as body parts are severed or the organism is completely bifurcated (see Report Log #01).

The existence of SCP-XXXX first came to the Foundation's attention when a fracture opened in the bullpen of the New York Police Department's 54th Precinct building, resulting in the deaths of three detectives (see Report Log #01). Embedded Foundation Agent ██████ ████████ was luckily not caught in the area of the fracture and reported it to the Foundation immediately.

For the duration of a fracture's existence any person or object attempting to enter the fracture will be repelled by an as yet unidentified force - this force has been confirmed to be non-magnetic in nature. The Foundation has thus far been unable to obtain any meaningful data on instances of SCP-XXXX as all recording devices tested have failed when directed at a fracture. Fractures themselves have no mass and emit no light or other forms of energy.
