A book videotape(?) that manifests as a person.
- book idea was so someone could "edit" the person's personality
- tape idea would instead trap people so the one inside can leave and you'd see the trapped ones asking to be let out
- maybe a combo? a laptop/tablet?
Lessons to take away:
1 - Don't overcorrect your approach (i.e. worry about keeping setting consistency leading to completely ignoring setting consistency).
2 - Don't keep plugging holes in an idea, take a step back every now and then, scrap it if appropriate.
3 - Figure out the core of an idea first, then try to take it in more than one direction (peeking at different paths might reveal one better than that first impulse).
4 - These lessons sound familiar, write them down instead of just "trying to remember" in the future… you won't (this is actually rule 1, but felt weird writing it first).
5 - Just because you have free time, don't keep working on something you know is not going anywhere as "just an exercise", taking a break is not a waste of time, it can actually help.
6 - Don't forget to forget rule 5 every now and then and just do something for the hell of it, not doing anything CAN actually not help (sometimes you gotta run before you can walk).
7 - Don't throw your bad work away, keep it and look at it from time to time. Seeing your progress can help boost morale.
8 - Sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward (don't let negative improvement get you down).

Item #: SCP-[9999]
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-9999 is to be contained in a closed terrarium on a workbench in [lab 99]. At least one person is to approach* the enclosure for 5-10 minutes daily. Personnel performing maintenance on the terrarium must wear protective gloves*, and SCP-9999 is to be transferred to a smaller container* for the duration.
*As of Incident 9999-01, unprotected physical contact must be avoided, and SCP-9999 is not to be [left exposed].
Description:
SCP-9999 is a moss-like organism, dark cyan in color, slightly numbing to the touch. Currently growing on a small rock, it was recovered from a high school biology lab in Silverton, OR.
[For reasons not yet fully understood], [starting at a range of 1-2m], the object reacts to the presence of sapient living beings by extending [countless, very short (~1cm), hair-thin (100-200µm) soft tendrils] [towards them]. No discernible effects can be observed on subjects simply approaching** SCP-9999, however if no such proximity occurs in a period of 2-4 days, the object will initially display erratic activity, and eventually, signs of rapid deterioration. [Elevated levels of] environmental humidity seem to delay [its decline].
**As of Incident 9999-01, possibility of psychological effects, triggered by physical contact, is to be determined.

[*sounds of doors unlocking and hallway guards beginning to yell something, recording stops*]Result:
SCP-9999 initially showed extreme [interest] in the subject, and upon physical contact became aggressive/defensive.
Test subject appears to suffer from memory dissociation and paranoia after contact.Testing Discontinued: Conclusion pending further tests.
Log 06 - [Exposure to sapient non-human test subjects - Pending approval (request on hold).]
Incident Report 9999-01:
During Experiment 9999-04-05 (conducted in [Test Chamber 99], involving test subject D-[99999], performed by researchers [Williams] and [Zhang], accompanied by security guard [Davis]), upon physical contact with the test subject, SCP-9999 exhibited previously unobserved behavior, swiftly extending its tendrils in a burst-like pattern, piercing one of the test subject’s fingertips, [who?] seemed startled but [largely] unharmed.
Instinctively, D-99999 placed the affected digit into his mouth, and over the next few minutes became increasingly confused and distressed. Soon, the subject [accused the researchers of "messing with his head"], shortly after starting to hyperventilate, moving to the door in an attempt to escape the containment unit [while screaming for help], and had to be restrained by the guard.
Junior Researcher Williams tried to calm down the test subject, but quickly became frustrated and started yelling reprimands [consistent with D-99999's criminal background] and physically striking the subject, [now curled up in a fetal position], at which point the guard [demanded that Williams compose himself].
Addendum 01:
New containment procedures have been put in place after Incident 9999-01.
As a result of the incident, D-99999 is showing signs of psychological trauma (paranoia and memory dissociation), denying responsibility for the crimes for which he was convicted, claiming that ["your shady organization must have planted false memories"]. As a result, his continued incarceration [appears to be causing] significant levels of distress, [forcing us to maintain D-99999 sedated while we ascertain the veracity of his symptoms].
Junior Researcher Williams has been suspended, due to his display of unprofessional conduct during Incident 9999-01, [pending an ethics committee hearing?].
Addendum 02:
Due to the possibility [that Junior Researcher Williams might have been affected by SCP-9999 in some unknown manner] during Incident 9999-01, he is to be reinstated and reassigned to a low clearance project, where discreet observation for further unusual behavior can be maintained. Meanwhile, the scope of SCP-9999's research must determine the extent of it's influence, if any, over the actions of individuals involved in Incident 9999-01.
