Object class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5237 is to be kept in a dimly lit 5 by 5 meter room with between one to three 25 watt bulbs in site 19. SCP-5237 must be "turned on" a minimum of once every 5 days. Anyone activating SCP-5237 should not remain in the containment unit for longer than 5 minutes. After SCP-5237 has been activated for 1 full hour, a different person must turn SCP-5237 off. Because of the nature of SCP-5237 only those with level 3 access or higher are permitted to interact with SCP-5237 and only with oversight by a security team or a level 4 researcher. If a person does not exit SCP-5237's containment unit by minute 9, they are to be terminated.

Description: SCP-5237 appears to be a .9 meter tall lamp. The base of SCP-5237 bears the figure of a woman, the bulb of the lamp extending out of her back. Her dress forms the base of the lamp and follows the hoop skirt style of the 1920's. The lamp shade is made in the same style and from the same material as the dress.

SCP-5237 was discovered in the home of [REDACTED] in San Francisco, 3/07/19⬛⬛. SCP-5237 came into foundation custody after multiple people who came in contact with a pawn shop housing SCP-5237 made notable life changes.

When someone activates SCP-5237 by rotating a small black knob near the bulb, the lightbulb will turn on, casting a dull glow somewhat obscured by the lamp shade. If no one activates SCP-5237 for 6 consecutive days, the bulb will begin to flicker on its own accord with growing intensity. If SCP-5237 remains in darkness for more than 13 consecutive hours the bulb will begin to glow brighter and brighter until the light is made visible to human eyes. This light has been recorded to be anywhere from 6,000 lumens to ⬛⬛⬛⬛.

Under normal conditions SCP-5237 exhibits no anomalous properties. When SCP-5237 is activated, the subject will invariably report feeling a sense of well being and an easing of their fears. Anyone who is capable of perceiving light cast from SCP-5237 will report the same affects regardless of distance. Photos and videos of light from SCP-5237 do not contain any anomalous effects. After approximately three minutes of exposure to light from SCP-5237 subjects will report hearing faint classical music. Subjects who are deaf will report feeling pleasant vibrations matching the tempo of said music. At approximately 10 minutes of exposure subjects will report smelling faint floral perfume. When asked to identify the specific type of flowers, subjects report flowers they find appealing.

At approximately 15 minutes of exposure subjects will report hearing the song, "It's Been A Long, Long Time" sung by Harry James. Subjects will invariably know the song title even if they had no prior knowledge. This knowledge extends to deaf individuals as well. At this stage subjects report feelings of bliss and relaxation as well as slight feelings of nostalgia.

At Approximately 30 minutes of exposure subjects will begin to report feeling tired and request a place to sleep. If they are not allowed to rest they will still invariably fall unconscious regardless of placement or stimulus. At this time the lamp will automatically turn itself off and will be unable to be activated again for a minimum of 2 hours. Subjects will then appear to sleep for exactly 3 minutes and 13 seconds before awakening. When subjects awaken they will report feeling refreshed and joyful. Subjects who have come in contact with SCP-5237 for more than 10 minutes will invariably enter the sleep stage. Subjects who are removed from SCP-5237 before the 10 minute mark will report feelings of agitation and unease similar to being awoken from a deep sleep without warning, but will ultimately suffer no long term effects.

Subjects who complete the full SCP-5237 cycle will appear more empathetic and compassionate, as well as taking a greater interest in classical art, literature, and antiques. SCP-5237's more dangerous properties appear between 1-3 months after exposure. Subjects who have come into contact with SCP-5237 for more than 10 minutes will invariably gain a keen insight into a dangerous or unethical practice happening globally. This information is either extremely secretive or poses a grave threat to humanity. Subjects will then do their best to stop what they deem to be a threat. These efforts are almost always effective as subjects of SCP-5237 gain comprehensive and extremely classified insight. This insight can include security codes, personal information about high ranking members of organizations, and locations of possible allies or resistance groups. SCP-5237 has proven itself to be both an asset to the foundation and a threat. Roughly 7% of the time a subject of SCP-5237 will gain insight into a highly classified SCP operation and attempt to sabotage it. SCP-5237 has also been instrumental in preventing multiple Keter class SCP breaches. To combat danger to the foundation subjects exposed to SCP-5237 are questioned extensively about information gained. Subjects who showed knowledge of highly classified SCP subjects/activities were terminated. It is hypothesized that SCP-5237 may have some form of sentience as subsequent subjects have shown a deceptive quality, gaining insight into multiple subjects, or feigning ignorance to mask their true intentions. This has resulted in the nearly successful assassination attempt of two O5 members, prompting an immediate freeze on all testing with SCP-5237.

Due to the pros of SCP-5237 and the possibility of preventing possible end of world scenarios, a request to continue testing is pending. If approved, testing would include:
at least 3 D class be exposed to SCP-5237 weekly and subsequently monitored as a potential failsafe.
