Item #: SCP-5056
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5056 must be contained within a 5 x 5 x 5 meter cast iron box contained within a 20 x 20 x 20 meter cast iron cell with a double air-locked entrance and an observation window. The smaller box is to be securely fastened to the floor in the center of the containment cell. SCP-5056 itself is contained within the smaller cast iron box that must be kept at no more than -265oC unless SCP-5056 is undergoing testing. When SCP-5056 is to undergo testing, the cast iron box must be heated to at least 50oC to most efficiently thaw SCP-5056. Once thawing is complete after approximately 30 seconds, the box may be opened through a door on its front-facing side, releasing SCP-5056 into the larger containment cell. Before thawing SCP-5056, both air-locked chambers must be successfully and completely vacuum sealed and any personnel who have entered SCP-5056's containment cell must triple lock the final air-locked door. After the testing of SCP-5056 has been completed, the containment cell must be brought to a temperature that does not exceed -265oC in order to crystallize SCP-5056, after which it can be safely transferred into the box.
At least three armed guards should be stationed outside of the vacuum chamber at all times and all personnel entering the containment cell are required to wear fully insulated lead-lined hazmat suits and to be equipped with an oxygen tank with the exception of D-Class personnel during testing. The personnel entering SCP-5056's cell must have level 3 clearance or higher.
In the event of a power outage, SCP-5056's containment cell must be immediately vacuum sealed until power is restored and the cast iron box can be frozen again.
Description: SCP-5056 is composed of two parts: SCP-5056-1 and 5056-2. SCP-5056-1 is a fully transparent gaseous entity possessing sentience and containing SCP-5056-2. SCP-5056-1 can expand and contract to sizes ranging anywhere from 750000 cm3 (approx. 300000 in3) to 8 cm3 (approx. 3 in3) and can insert itself through openings as slim as 1 mm. SCP-5056-2 are the consciousnesses of previous subjects which seem to require sustenance separate from SCP-5056-1 and are released after the first stage of the feeding process of SCP-5056-1
When SCP-5056-1 enters a human body through any orifice (usually through the mouth or nose), it will pass through respiratory membranes and enter the bloodstream. SCP-5056-1 will then disperse the rest of itself throughout the inside of the body, whereupon it will release an unknown corrosive acid which has a pH of -18 and properties similar to that of closo-dicarbadodecaborane (carborane), dissolving all internal organs other than the brain, heart, and lungs. SCP-50506-1 will also leave the muscle tissue, skin, bones, blood veins, blood vessels, and nerve endings untouched, to seemingly keep the subject alive and conscious for the 3 to 5 minutes that it takes to feed. This has been hypothesized to allow SCP-5056-1 to also feed off of the agonized consciousness of the subject which it will then absorb into itself after the subject dies.
When SCP-5056-1 has dissolved the aforementioned organs and consumed the desired organic matter, it releases SCP-5056-2, which then feeds on the remaining organic matter leaving only the skin and bones of the subject untouched. It is presumed that it is during this final stage of feeding that the consciousness of the subject is consumed and becomes part of SCP-5056-2 inside of SCP-5056-1.
