SCP-XXXX
The Soporific Bed
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard 4m x 3m x 3m room. No monitoring equipment is to be active during the hours 2100 and 0600 of the day. No one is allowed access to SCP-XXXX during hours 2100 to 0600. Access to SCP-XXXX may only be authorized by the site manager. No recordings or pictures of SCP-XXXX are to be stored by any means.
Description: SCP-XXXX is perceived to be a standard 2 m x 1.5m piece of furniture for most subjects. The object has three known anomalous properties. The first property of the object is how each subject perceives SCP-XXXX differently, with each subject reporting the object to resemble a bed. Subjects who view SCP-XXXX report seeing it as “the most comfortable and warm” bed they had seen. This seems to indicate a psychological reading property in SCP-XXXX, resulting in an expedited process of subjects trying to enter the object. Around hours 2100 to 0600, the object induces fatigue in subjects when the subject is either in the close vicinity of SCP-XXXX or perceive any sort of recorded medium by picture or video of the SCP. Note: recordings vs live feed do not seem to alter the soporific effects of SCP-XXXX, and drawings do not inflict the effect, possibly due to the difference in how each subject perceives SCP-XXXX. Subjects that fall under the object’s effect of hypersomnia feel a strong urge to sleep in SCP-XXXX or another nearby item of furniture, which will then be referred to as SCP-XXXX-1. Couches and other beds are common replacements, however, such items as chairs or bean bags have been recorded to carry the property. Note: The effects of SCP-XXXX only apply to one individual at a time when multiple individuals are within close vicinity of XXXX. Subjects that aren’t in SCP-XXXX or another item of furniture cannot perceive the moment subjects in the SCP-XXXX or SCP-XXXX-1 fall into the REM cycle. Upon viewing a photo or other such recordings of SCP-XXXX, the subject will experience feelings of immense exhaustion and search for the nearest bed or mattress. Distance from SCP-XXXX does not seem to affect the levels of fatigue induced in the subject.
Addendum: SCP XXXX was discovered in █████, Oklahoma on ██/██/██. Several disappearances in the area near the [REDACTED] Hotel. Police found no traces as to where victims had gone. Soon after a police officer was reported missing after investigating a possible lead on recent disappearances. Foundation personnel were notified and moved in. MTF-XX moved in on the site to investigate at approximately 2100 hours. At approximately 2325 hours, MTF-XX located SCP XXXX and it’s first anomalous property activated, rendering the entirety of the MTF-XX that was viewing XXXX exhausted, including agents that were monitoring the mission remotely via agents body cameras. Agent XX then proceeded to enter SCP XXXX while being viewed by the rest of MTF-XX. At approximately 2326 hours, SCP XXXX’s second property seemed to activate, as all camera equipment monitoring SCP XXXX cut out for a split second. Agent XX(1) appeared to disappear from SCP XXXX. Later, all agents reported not seeing the moment Agent XX(1) disappeared. After Agent XX(1) had vanished, the rest of the MTF team slowly regained from their exhausted stupor. MTF Captain then proceeded to lead the team out of the room and sight of SCP XXXX. They moved several rooms over and MTF Captain radioed the foundation on what to do. Dr. Graphite ordered MTF personnel at 2329 hours to send one agent into the room of SCP XXXX and determine if the object was still emitting it’s soporific property. Agent XX(2) was ordered by the MTF Captain to determine if the object was still active. Agent XX(2) then proceeded to enter the room and reported no anomalous effects present. The MTF team was then ordered to monitor SCP XXXX while the foundation sent an extraction team. No further incidents occurred while retrieving SCP XXXX.
While at the site, researchers discovered SCP-XXXX’s only active anomalous property during hours 0600 to 2100 was its appearance changing to individual subjects. All the other properties appeared to be inactive during said hours. It was also determined due to SCP-XXXX’s behavior after it seemed to take Agent XX(1), that in succeeding hours after taking a subject SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effect will deactivate. The length of time where the object is non-anomalous after taking a subject is undetermined but has not been recorded to last longer than 24 hours. Note: SCP-XXXX’s effects only deactivate temporarily for short vicinity and physical viewings, camera and recording equipment is still subject to the object’s effects.
