The glass bottle the original sample of SCP-XXXX was recovered in. It was deemed non-anomalous and (after emptying and extensive decontamination) placed in Non-Anomalous Item Storage for safekeeping.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: The entire volume of SCP-XXXX is to be stored in three (3) 100 liter steel drums, kept inside an airtight 5m x 5m x 2m concrete containment chamber with a dedicated air conditioning system designed to maintain close to 0% air humidity. The interior of the chamber is to be tiled with vitreous ceramic tiles to prevent any potential moisture from seeping into the walls. The only entrance into the containment chamber is to be through an airlock to prevent the introduction of moisture or the escape of any potential SCP-XXXX fumes. Access to the chamber requires Level 3 or higher security clearance, with the entrance kept under constant camera surveilance and armed guard (by no less that two (2) on-site security officers) to prevent unauthorized access. A thorough inspection of the chamber and all its systems is to be carried out bi-weekly.

Should the air humidity level inside the chamber rise above 5% for any reason, auxilliary dehumidifier units are to be activated until humidity returns to 1% or less. Should the auxiliary units fail, emergency vacuum pumps are to evacuate the air from the chamber into a sealed tank until qualified personnel can arrive to diagnose and resolve the issue. Any personnel entering the chamber are to wear Level A hazmat suits to prevent contamination. In case of unprotected exposure to the interior of the containment chamber, the affected subject is to be immediately quarantined in a secure airtight chamber until it is confirmed to be free of contamination or expires from the effects of SCP-XXXX.

Under no circumstances should SCP-XXXX be introduced to water in any form or amount outside of a controlled testing enviroment. All testing is to take place in a sealed dry-room similar to SCP-XXXX's containment area, only after direct approval from the Site Director. Any personnel attempting to remove any amount of SCP-XXXX from its containment area without this approval are subject to immediate termination or re-classification as D-class personnel.

As there is no known way to neutralize or destroy SCP-XXXX, water exposure during testing is to be kept to a minimum to avoid exponential replication of the substance.

Description: SCP-XXXX consists of, at the time of writing, 237 liters of liquid chemically identical to red wine with an alcoholic content of 14%. The only unusual property of its chemical structure is that despite dating back to ███ A.D., it shows no signs of spoilage.

Water that comes into contact with SCP-XXXX is transmuted into more of the substance. The transmutation isn't instantaneous - it "spreads" gradually as individual water molecules come into contact with the substance. Any other substances remain unaffected - thus, in solutions, only the water portion is converted. The lower the water content of the solution is, the slower the conversion spreads due to the lower density of water molecules.

If a living organism is exposed to SCP-XXXX, all of its bodily fluids are converted in the span of several minutes, depending on the quantity and means of contamination (skin contact, vapor inhalation, ingestion, intravenous injection, etc…), invariably resulting in fatality via extreme alcohol poisoning.

SCP-XXXX evaporates at a rate consistent with wine of similar alcohol content, resulting in the formation of SCP-XXXX fumes. These fumes are deadly if inhaled and react with air moisture. Fortunately, conversion of air moisture is slow due to low density of water molecules in the air, but increases in speed with increased air moisture or concentration of SCP-XXXX fumes.

If any amount of SCP-XXXX was introduced into the water cycle, the entirety of the world's water supply would be converted in the space of approximately ██ days, making organic life impossible and thus constituting an XK-class End-of-the-World scenario.

Addendum: Circumstances of recovery: SCP-XXXX was recovered on 02/25/20██ in ███████, ████████ when Field Agent ████████ ██████, operating undercover as an emergency services dispatcher, recieved word of an extraordinary case of lethal alcohol poisoning - the victim, Mr. █████ had a blood alcohol content of 14% despite only drinking a single glass of curious vintage wine he acquired from an antiques auction. █ more victims (mostly emergency services responders) were exposed before the Foundation containment team arrived, secured the cadavers and the bottle of SCP-XXXX, and amnesticized the witnesses. The cadavers were studied briefly and then [REDACTED], extracting all traces of SCP-XXXX, with the remains being cremated and disposed of after they were confirmed to be decontaminated.
