Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Countainment Procedures: SCP-XXXX must be countained in a sealed tempered glass recipient monitored by two or more redundant infrared sensors. If any leak or containment breach is detected, SCP-XXXX is to be immediately transferred to its backup containment unit. Tests with SCP-XXXX performed outside its recipient must be conducted in a sealed chamber equiped with an airlock and a hidden/protected camera. With the exception of test subjects, all personnel that is to interact directly with SCP-XXXX must do so using standard hazard suits. Any interaction must be video monitored by security personnel for its entire duration and all personnel involved are to undergo psychological evaluation immediately after. In the event of tests conducted with unprotected subjects, SCP-XXXX must be kept out of their reach at all times. Attempting to unlock or damage SCP-XXXX is strictly forbidden.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a black closed padlock discovered sealed inside of a bottle in a small church located at [REDACTED].
Its fabrication is unknown as it don't belong to any series of mass produced padlocks, but it is estimated to be between fifty and a hundred years old as by its model characteristics and interviwed civilian population. No key was found with SCP-XXXX and any attempts to unlock it where unsuccessful to this date.
The object is composed of an unknown material that reflects almost no light as per realised spectroscopic tests. The material seems to be very resistant since any method of destructive sampling proved ineffective. Despite that, its structure seems to be mildly bloated and several small cracks exist on its surface.
The cracks constantly leak a black smoke (SPC-XXXX-1) that eventually fills the environment in wich SPC-XXXX is located, becoming transparent to the naked eye but still blocking infrared light. The gas appears to be smelless to humans or other animals and its composition could not be determined by specialized equipment.
Most animals appear to be immune to the effects of SPC-XXXX-1, but human subjects in contact with it have several distinct and incrisingly severe physiological and psycological symptoms, such as:
- Anxiety,
- Excessive sweating,
- Abrupt mood changes,
- Tachycardia,
- Violent behaviour,
- Intense fear,
- Self-mutilation,
- Hallucinations,
- Compulsive/obsessive behaviour.
Subjects in contact with the gas were also reported to have abnormal interest in SPC-XXXX, followed by an uncontrolable urge to open it. This manifests first as questions about the existence of a key and attempts to convince monnitoring personnel to unlock it. After enoght time of exposition, subjects become impatient and try to open SCP-XXXX by force or destroy it, stopping only when more severe symptoms manifest.
The time and order in which those symptoms appear varies significantly, but prolonged human exposition to SCP-XXXX-1 ultimately leads to either a state of coma or catatonia. Inhalation of the gas produces a faster manifestation of the aforementioned effects, but skin contact also produces the same results given enough time.
Refer to XXXX reports for further information.
Addendum 01: As observed by Dr.██████████, SCP-XXXX itself could be a countainment unit for SCP-XXXX-1 or other anomaly related to it. Therefore, any further attempts to damage or unlock it is forbidden until further notice.
Addendum 02: The structure of SCP-XXXX seems to be slowly deteriorating with time. The object is to be relocated to Site-76 for further analysis and increased security. Object Class and special containment procedures may be revised.
