Item #: SCP-[NUMBER] "Smoking Coin"
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures:
Instances of SCP-[NUMBER] are to be kept individually in a sealed airtight transparent 10cm x 10cm x 20cm container composed of reinforced glass. A vacuum within the container is to be maintained by a specialized vacuum-pump outfitted with ABECO-P3-class chemical filters. These containers are to be placed in a 12m x 12m x 6m chamber of reinforced concrete, which is to be fitted with a BEK-Hg-class chemical filter and ventilation system. The container, pump, and filters are to be replaced every six months or when significant levels of corrosion are detected on the container walls. When in transit, instances of SCP-[NUMBER] must be contained in steel-composite gas cylinders under armed guard. Personnel must wear CBRN-suits at all times when handling instances of SCP-[NUMBER]. Upon discovery, any new instances of SCP-[NUMBER] are to be secured as soon as possible and a CBRN-equipped Foundation decontamination team is to be dispatched to the affected area for cleanup.
Description: SCP-[NUMBER] is what appear to be a series of late-19th century coins, primarily originating from Western-Europe, with most instances being comprised of pure .999 silver. Instances of SCP-[NUMBER] have been observed to fluctuate between two distinct states, a dormant state and an active state. During the dormant state, instances of SCP-[NUMBER] typically exhibit no anomalous properties. At irregular intervals, individual instances of SCP-[NUMBER] will enter their active state and begin to emit various noxious gasses, most typically hydrogen-sulfide, hydrogen-cyanide, and phosgene.
In rare instances, more volatile gases have been emitted, such as event-████-██-██-B, during which ████ and ████ were emitted, followed shortly by █kg of chlorine-trifluoride, resulting in a containment breach and the deaths of █ members of the research staff assigned to SCP-[NUMBER]. Despite this, the coins do not appear to have suffered any damage or degradation from the incident.
Note: "We may need to revise containment procedures. If SCP-[NUMBER] is capable of producing, ████ and ClF3, there is a very real risk of it producing other dangerously unstable explosive compounds." - Dr. ████████
The length of SCP-[NUMBER]'s dormant state appear to depend on its proximity to the nearest instance of SCP-[NUMBER] of a different currency, with the interval decreasing linearly the further they are moved away from each other. Beyond a distance of ████ meters, instances of SCP-[NUMBER] are observed to enter permanently into their active state until brought back within the ████m limit.
Preliminary research suggests that the composition of emitted gas is dependant on what currency and which specific coins are involved. Each currency appears to have a "preference" in terms of what gasses are emitted. This "preference" appears to change when coins of different currencies are brought into close proximity with one another (See Addendum #3).
Update #1: It appears that the interval between SCP-[NUMBER] entering its active state is also be affected by proximity to otherwise non-anomalous individuals (See Field Report [Number]-012-1B) henceforth classified as SCP-[NUMBER]-A. As an instance of SCP-[NUMBER]-A approaches SCP-[NUMBER], the dormant-state interval reduces linearly, inversely proportional to the effect of removing one instance of SCP-[NUMBER] from another, with the SCP-[NUMBER]-A individual having no effect on instances of SCP-[NUMBER] further away than ████m.
Update #2: Following standard background investigation and genealogical research regarding [Redacted] or related organizations, all instances of SCP-[NUMBER]-A were determined to be direct descendants of [Redacted], and other individuals directly associated with [Redacted].
Note: "As long as such individuals are kept at least ████m away from foundation sites containing SCP-[NUMBER], they should have no affect on SCP-[NUMBER]'s state fluctuation. I don't think we really need to worry about this too much." - Dr. ██████
Update #3: Following the proposal of Dr. █████, SCP-[NUMBER]'s previously believed to be random fluctuation pattern has been shown to be the result of movement patterns of SCP-[NUMBER]-A instances near ████████████, ██████.
Addendum #1: Initial Discovery and Retrieval:
SCP-[NUMBER] was initially discovered by Agent while investigating the suspicious deaths of several patrons of ███████ coin auction house in ███████ near Lyons, France. MTF Beta-7 was called in and the item was secured without incident. A cover story was fed to local media that a nearby World War II-era chemical munitions dump had leaked into the soil surrounding the auction house.
Addendum #2: Known Instances:
Known instances of SCP-[NUMBER] include 6 Francs (Belgian, French, and Luxembourgish), 12 Marks, 3 Krones, 2 Lire, 18 Pounds, 22 Dollars, 5 Rubles, 1 Baht, 4 Pesetas, and 29 Escudos. All instances of SCP-[NUMBER] are of a denomination of 1 unit of the base currency.
Note: All known instances of SCP-[NUMBER] were discovered in pairs of two or more. Any deviation from this pattern should be reported immediately.
Addendum #3: Threat Rating Emission Tests:
Test [NUMBER]-1:
Items: 1 Franc, 1 Mark
Parameters: Coins separated by 30cm. No other coins within proximity.
Emission Results: 6.2g of ethyl bromoacetate.
Threat Rating: Safe for containment.
Test [NUMBER]-2:
Items: 1 Pound, 1 Escudo
Parameters: Coins separated by 5cm. No other coins within proximity.
Emission Results: 2kg of carbon monoxide.
**Threat Rating: ** Safe for containment.
Test [NUMBER]-3:
Items: 1 Pound, 2 Escudo
Parameters: All coins separated by 5cm from each other. No other coins within proximity.
Emission Results: 55g of carbon dioxide, 2g carbon monoxide.
Threat Rating: Safe for containment.
Note: The carbon monoxide was emitted by one of the escudos. Perhaps this is a result of it not "pairing" properly with the other coins. - Assistant Researcher ████ ██████
Test [NUMBER]-4:
Items: 1 Lira
[Data Expunged]
//Note: Test carried out during dormant state. As a result, nothing happened. See Test [NUMBER]-5, [NUMBER]-7.
Test [NUMBER]-5:
Items: 1 Lira
Parameters: 1 Krone, 6 Dollars, and 4 Rubles passed within ███m of testing location due to a logistics error. The exact distance during the time of the test is unknown.
Emission Results: 480kg of an unknown gas, described as "black with a metallic iridescence" and "difficult to move through, as though the air itself were tar" by Assistant Researcher ████ ██████. Further testing on collected samples indicate that the gas has a degradating effect, managing to [Redacted] on all exposed surfaces within ██ minutes.
Threat Rating: Not Safe for containment.
Note: This does not apply to the Lira itself, only to the Lira/Krone/Dollar/Ruble combination. - Dr. ████ █ ███████
Test [NUMBER]-6:
Items: 1 Dollar, 1 Pound

See Document TESTLOG-SCP-[NUMBER]-2 for further results.
Incident Report [Number]-201:
[Redacted], when an instance of SCP-[NUMBER]-A-███ (a Mr. ██████ ████████) attempted to enter Site-██. When confronted, Mr. ██████ proceeded to attack Site-██ security officers and attempted to forcefully enter the facility. In an interview while in custody following the incident, Mr. ██████ admitted that he was attempting to retrieve four ██████ coins, instances of SCP-[NUMBER] which records show had previously belonged to Mr. ██████'s late brother before being acquired by the Foundation.
Note: "This brings up the uncomfortable possibility that either SCP-[NUMBER] possesses additional, possibly memetic properties, or that Foundation security and the secrecy of Site-██ has been breached." - Dr. █████████
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
Through coordination between a Foundation front company and local authorities in Villefranche-sur-Saône, SCP-XXXX is currently located within a shopping district-turned-industrial park owned by the foundation, designated Site-95. In the event that SCP-XXXX should disappear and reappear elsewhere, Site-95 is to be moved to the new location of SCP-XXXX and a secure perimeter around SCP-XXXX is to be established.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be contained within a 20 x 20 x 10cm box of reinforced glass fitted with an ABEK-class chemical filter and vent/drain to remove emitted substances. SCP-XXXX-1-1478 is to be stored within a 40 x 40 x 40cm steel box with a thickness of 10cm and placed within a 5 x 5 x 5 meter concrete room. SCP-XXXX-1-1478's box is to be replace when corrosion is observed on the outside of its current containment vessel. SCP-XXXX-1-1478 may not be removed from its current location for any reason.
Class-A NBC equipment is required when directly handling instances of SCP-XXXX-1 Individuals handling instances of SCP-XXXX-1 should avoid coming into direct contact with any emitted substances. Direct handling of SCP-XXXX-1-1478 is strictly forbidden without senior administration approval.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a small coin shop currently going by the name of "Le petit magasin de monnaie" and located in Villefranche-sur-Saône, near Lyons, France. SCP-XXXX has been observed to shift location at various points in time, most recently on ██/██/1956. Items found within SCP-XXXX, designated as SCP-XXXX-1-#, are typically coins, medallions or other such objects.
Subjects who come into contact with all known instances of SCP-XXXX-1 report anomalous sensory phenomenon such as hushed whispers, loud screaming, and the smell of freshly cut grass.
Rarely, individuals report indeterminate "entities" in their peripheral vision, often appearing to converse and interact with other subjects present in the room. None of the subjects in question report having seen or spoken with anyone during these periods.
When left alone, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will emit a wide range of substances, often small volumes of gas or liquid, at irregular intervals. These intervals are affected by the proximity of other instances of SCP-XXXX-1, particularly those dated to within 20-25 years of each other. Substances emitted include a carbon dioxide and potassium sulphate mixture, water, pure hydrogen, phosgene, hydrogen bromide, burning motor oil, blood, and a dark-red compound, at first thought to be blood, which causes accelerated corrosion of any ferrous substance it comes into contact with. Extensive testing has shown the emitted substance to vary depending on supposed point of origin of the SCP-XXXX-1 instance, as well as the date.
When placed in direct contact with one another, instances of SCP-XXXX-1 usually react violently, often emitting large quantities of volatile or poisonous substances. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 from nations historically allied with each other at the time the instances were stamped do not exhibit this behavior.
Addendum SCP-XXXX-1-1478:
SCP-XXXX-1-1478 was first observed on ██/██/1985 to emit a highly corrosive tar-like substance which damaged its containment unit. During cleanup, a member of maintenance team came into direct contact with the substance. Initially, the staff member appeared completely unharmed by this incident, but reported that the substance was "deeper" than it appeared. A follow up medical examination revealed that the staff member had biologically aged by approximately 19 years.
