Item #: SCP-4XXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-4XXX, it cannot be relocated without causing significant damage to both the specimen itself and the specimen's area of influence. No establishments are to be build within a kilometre radius of SCP-4XXX. To minimise vibrations around SCP-4XXX, all wildlife within this area must be relocated and the perimeter guarded at all times.
In the event that SCP-4XXX moves, the corresponding location must be notified as soon as possible and prepared for evacuation. In light of recent incidents, no personnel will be permitted near SCP-4XXX during phases of significant movement, regardless of clearance level.
Description: SCP-4XXX is an eleven (11) metre long creature with twelve (12) sets of legs. Each of the specimen's limbs, designated SCP-4XXX-1 through -24, correspond with a subterranean network of organic material. Tests to determine the extend of these networks return inconclusive.
A trail of tilled soil extends behind SCP-4XXX. The trail begins abruptly, approximately thirty (30) metres from the specimen's current location. SCP-4XXX moves unpredictably, it appears to be proceeding towards a specific goal. Not enough evidence exists to predict what this goal is, though speculation based on the direction SCP-4XXX is currently facing suggests that it is moving towards Site-██.
When SCP-4XXX takes a step forward, the subterranean network corresponding with whichever limb is moving gets dragged along with it. Due to this relationship, any location connected to these networks is moved as well, often causing high magnitude earthquakes. All vibrations near SCP-4XXX will have a similar effect, becoming more magnified the closer to SCP-4XXX they originate.
Anatomically, SCP-4XXX is composed mostly of a hard organic substance similar to but significantly harder than bone. The specimen's body is hairless and light pink in colour; its skin feels similar to exposed flesh and tenses up when touched.
The specimen is known to react to pain, usually by violently thrashing its head, which appears to be a shirt stump located at the front of its body. Despite having no fur or blubber, SCP-4XXX has little reaction to low temperatures. The specimen does, however, react to burning and other stimuli.
Discovery: SCP-4XXX was discovered in a sparsely populated region of Canada by a group of amateur hikers. They found SCP-4XXX in a northern region of Manitoba after following the trail of tilled soil and uprooted trees it left behind.
Upon finding SCP-4XXX, the group of hikers approached it, trampling ground within ten (10) metres of the specimen and causing noticeable tremors in the surrounding areas. One of the hikers touched the specimen's back, causing it to react as if startled. SCP-4XXX jerked forwards, causing significant tremors along the specimen's subterranean network.
The hikers remained until the tremors were investigated by Foundation personnel. The hikers were expunged from the location and SCP-4XXX was placed under temporary containment.
Addendum 4XXX.1: Experiment Log
A series of experiments were conducted in order to determine the extent of SCP-4XXX-1 through -24 and the extent to which vibrations are magnified.
Experimentation with SCP-4XXX is discontinued until further notice.
