Malinska-3-30-96-RB.jpg

Sister ship 'Malinska' in 1996, Montreal

Item #: SCP-1992

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1992 is to be placed in a dry dock three times a year for repainting and basic maintenance around the object and inside. After the dry dock maintenance period of 2 months has passed, SCP-1992 is to be placed in a pool of water, measuring 300 meters long, 300 meters wide, and 50 meters deep.

Description: SCP-1992 is a merchant bulk carrier vessel similar to 'Malinska', a merchant bulk carrier from Yugoslavia. 'M/V Malinska' was built in 1987 by the Croatian shipyard '3.MAJ' for the merchant shipping company 'Jugolinija', later 'CROATIA LINE'(Formed in 1992). However, SCP-1992 has a few differences when looking next to 'Malinska'. Those are:

-SCP-1992 is longer (Malinska-222.4 m SCP-1992-225.6 m)
-SCP-1992 is missing a life-boat and there is no frame for it;
-SCP-1992 is missing all three anchors even though it has the necessary machines and holes;
-SCP-1992 is missing the UHF antenna on the bridge
-SCP-1992's name is nowhere to be found, including the port of registry(Should be Rijeka or Valletta)
-SCP-1992 has a broken crane number 2.(Snapped cables)

SCP-1992 was found on March 22nd, 1996 in the Gulf of Mexico 150Nm off the shore and was found by the crew of 'M/V Petersburg'. The crew described SCP-1992 as 'rusted, missing all of it's anchors and has no means of communication.' Upon boarding SCP-1992 and walking inside the superstructure, it was found that SCP-1992 was left in a hurry. The crew's personal items were left onboard, including 10 VHS cassette tapes. The engine room is also a mess, with wrenches and similar items scattered around the room, and a missing exhaust valve on the main engine.(Cylinder number 8.)

Addendum: SCP-1992 is able to generate audio and video based hallucinations when standing on the bridge and looking outwards. Their intensity is based on the person's experience, e.g if the person is a long-time sailor, the intensity of the hallucinations are minimal and psychical trauma is minimal and vise-versa. However, the intensity of the said hallucinations does increase with time; so if a person stands for 5 minutes, he/she will experience a very mild level of hallucinations. The worst level of hallucinations was reported on September 15th, 2000 when D-class personel D-78262 stood on the bridge of SCP-1992 for exactly 15 minutes until he was seen screaming and running away from the superstructure. He ran to the bow of the ship and fell to his knees and started to cry. He then proceeded to yell something in Croatian and ran back to the superstructure, which he climbed and jumped off to his death.

The VHS tapes found inside SCP-1992's crew rooms are to be examined and digitised and preferably, translated from Croatian to English.

Addendum 2 In Fall of 2003 SCP Foundation has found a translator for the SCP-1992 VHS tapes. He managed to successfully translate 9 tapes, but stopped at number 10 because he says he's not ready for it. Two weeks later he translated the tape number 10 but was extremely pale when he left the translating room. The translator didn't speak to anyone for 2 weeks and was on the edge of death, but finally came out of his room, ready to tell the story.

Addendum 3 The translator managed to create a summary of the story and he begged us to redact the name of the ship. The summary reads:
"The tapes that were recorded on M/V redacted were recorded by the First Deck Officer Filip Dragojac. Filip documented his first voyage on the ship in 1989 and his last days bared the date of July 14th, 1995 when Filip documented a 'full hour of panic and screams while they've hit a really bad storm out on the Atlantic'. Everywhere that Filip went, all panic, including the engine room, where the 1st and 2nd Engineer were seen crying on the floor and begging for help. The last shot was filmed in early hours in December of 1995, on the open sea around Halifax. Filip's translated last words while he was climbing the superstructure were: "I cannot believe what our nation can do. We're a bunch of horrible people. Why the fuck we opted to DESTROY our home?" and then the video stops, and I assume he committed suicide."
