Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Object is to be contained within a 4m x 2m x 2m standard reptile terrarium with the minimum terrain decorations required to maintain a calm temperament in the object and must have the standard environmental controls required for a single medium european reptile. The terrarium is to be kept within a 10m x 10m x 10 air sealed room only accessible through a single airlock door.
The room should be monitored by 3 separately operated CCTV set to trigger alarms should they at any time display identifiable video. Any testing must be monitored by at least 1 individual through audio only with the authority to immediately lock the airlock at their discretion.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an individual of the species Vipera Bersus, commonly known as the Common European Viper. SCP-XXXX was discovered in 1998 on the ██████ Farm, ██████ County, England after agents noted a series of mass panic events causes by those affected by SCP-XXXX’s transmitable condition in a number of nearby villages.
SCP-XXXX has 2 notable effects, the first of which is the object’s abnormal lifespan, far exceeding the standard 15 years expected of its species. The other more concerning effect is a powerful memetic hazard seemingly caused by the pattern on SCP-XXXXs scales. All known methods so far attempted are entirely unable to gain accurate measurements or estimations of SCP-XXXX’s length. While any section of SCPXXXX may be comprehended separately any attempt to gain an approximate length is completely impossible even to electronic or automatic methods. Video footage becomes static when showing both ends of the object and any electronic measurement devices return major errors. The only understanding of its length gained so far is that it is capable of comfortably fitting in the terrarium currently provided which was discovered through extensive trial and error. This effect will often trigger psychotic breaks in the viewer after extended viewing as they fail to rationalize what they can see.
The additional effect which makes SCP-XXXX a significant danger is the symptoms of it’s bite. Any multicellular organism that the object intentionally bites rapidly develops similar patterns across all exterior surfaces, after this process is complete, normally taking 2-3 minutes regardless of the organisms size, the new organism, now referred to as SCP-XXXX-01 gains the same effect as SCP-XXXX, its greatest dimension becomes indeterminate even to those who were aware of it in exact detail. SCP-XXXX-01 can then transmit the effect further by biting additional organisms, referred to as SCP-XXXX-02. This process can be continued indefinitely with no significant differences between individual generations.
While the ability of SCP-XXXX to transmit the effect suggests that it may not be the origin of the effect, it has been classed as such due to the abnormal lifespan it has which is not shown in further generations.
