SCP XXXX prior to containment
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is stored within a concrete room at Site-12 and requires two weekly cleanings. Due to SCP-XXXX’s capability of producing a utilizable non-anomalous alcohol product, a CIP (Cleaning In Place) system has been installed adjacent to SCP-XXXX and is to be ran every Thursday and Friday at 15:33 to prevent the accumulation of sulfides on the inner walls of SCP-XXXX.
One member of D-Class personnel is to operate the CIP system every Thursday and Friday after listening to SCP-XXXX-1 for 15 minutes and is to inform on-site researchers if the narrative changes in any manner, besides constituting the non-anomalous past actions of "Mike".
Description: SCP-XXXX is a copper pot still of German manufacture capable of producing a non-anomalous rye-based spirit on Thursdays and Fridays without requiring heat, mixed grains, or any physical operation at approximately 14:18.
After producing exactly 750 milliliters of 170 proof alcohol, the copper pot will increase in heat until its temperature has reached 122 degrees Celsius. After the designated temperature has been achieved, SCP-XXXX will produce a vaporous entity from the still door that is SCP-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX-1 lingers in the immediate vicinity of SCP-XXXX but will never leave more than 1 meter from its point of origin. SCP-XXXX-1 has no defined shape besides an amorphous cloud of water vapor that is approximately 22 centimeters in diameter. SCP-XXXX-1 will to glide toward any human capable of speech that enters within 1 meter of SCP-XXXX during its manifestation and begin producing speech resembling that of a middle-aged man. The process by which the cloud is capable of speech has yet to be identified.
SCP-XXXX-1’s spoken language varies between manifestations and is comprised of either Central Alemannic German or Midwestern American English, but neither language has shown to be favored by SCP-XXXX-1.
SCP-XXXX-1 is not responsive to any external stimuli, and will continue to speak as long a listener does not move from within 1 meter of SCP-XXXX, or if the listener expresses disinterest by way of not making eye contact with SCP-XXXX-1 for more than 8 seconds.
SCP-XXXX-1’s topic of speech never varies from the life story and recounted actions of an individual by the name of Mike.
SCP-XXXX-1 will dissipate after it details a brief story about Mike's past (which lasts no longer than 15 minutes), or if SCP-XXXX has been cleaned by the CIP system.
An attempt to analyse SCP-XXXX-1’s vapor has concluded its composition to be partially constituted of a previously unknown chemical compound now identified as [DATA EXPUNGED]. Researchers are testing whether the compound can be utilized to increase the speed of molecular oxidation used in fermentation.
Addendum-1: SCP-XXXX was recovered by the Foundation on ██-██-2018 after the owner of ████████ Distillery reported a “ghostlike apparition” haunting their establishment to a local news station. Foundation agents disguised as media editors for the news station intercepted the story, and subsequently administered Class-B amnestics to the owner, their employees, and miscellaneous news anchors.
Addendum-2: On date ██-██-2019, SCP-XXXX-1 began describing Mike in the present tense, as if narrating Mike's current day-to-day agenda. Currently, while speaking in present tense, Mike has begun displaying behaviours that are found commonly in persons who contemplate suicide and display self-destructive tendencies. The Foundation has assigned Dr. Arthus to collect and document information provided by SCP-XXXX-1 to monitor any changes in SCP-XXXX-1 that may be caused by Mike's actions.
