Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be secured in the Site-15 recovered items sector. Due to the properties of SCP-XXXX all site staff handling it must wear noise cancelling headphones with an in-built radio to allow for communication during testing. All discovered instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be captured and transferred to a foundation-owned plot of farmland located in ███████ County █████, where they are to be monitored daily for any change in behavior or physical appearance.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a farm themed Mattel See N' Say toy theorized to be produced in the 1980's. The object was recovered from a child's bedroom after Foundation agent █████ was exposed to the secondary effect of SCP-XXXX during an investigation into a young boy in ████████, Ohio who was exposed to SCP-XXXX's primary effect. SCP-XXXX's exact origin is still unknown to the foundation and initial discovery revealed that Mattel had no records of SCP-XXXX ever being produced. A thorough investigation has been launched by lead researcher Dr M. Barrett to determine the exact origin of SCP-XXXX, and the number of people affected by its properties before it entered the foundation's possession. SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties manifest whenever the yellow lever located on the right side of the object is pulled. Once the lever is pulled SCP-XXXX will function like a normal See N' Say toy by spinning it's red arrow until it lands on an animal, when stopped SCP-XXXX will emit a sound reminiscent of the animal selected by the arrow. It will then vocalize through its speakers with the subjects voice to ask what animal made the sound emitted.
If the subject does not respond within ten seconds, or incorrectly identifies the sound emitted, SCP-XXXX will power down for an indefinite amount of time and its secondary effect will begin. During this period the subject will begin to hear vocalizations of the selected animal that will incrementally rise in volume and intensity the longer SCP-XXXX is powered down. This will result in severe damage to the subjects eardrums, similar injury can be found in individuals who listen to very loud music with headphones on for extended periods of time. All attempts to remove the battery cover or provide additional power to SCP-XXXX have failed, as any tools utilized by foundation researchers have been ineffective in piercing the plastic that SCP-XXXX is comprised of. Once power has returned to SCP-XXXX subjects report that all vocalizations cease immediately, but that a constant ringing sound is now present. This is most likely chronic tinnitus caused by injury to the inner ear as a result of SCP-XXXX's secondary effect.
If a subject correctly identifies the animal that makes the sound emitted from SCP-XXXX than the objects primary effect will begin. Within a timeframe of approximately two minutes forty-three seconds from correct identification the subject will begin to behave as the animal identified. This begins with the subject ceasing all sapient vocalization, moving and acting like the animal and consuming food items that the animal would typically eat. Tests conducted on subjects in this state show that no internal biological changes have taken place and that the behavior seems to be a purely psychological effect. After 24 hours have elapsed since subject behavior change, they will return to normal behavior for approximately four minutes before [REDACTED] and becoming an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Upon the conclusion of SCP-XXXX-1's [REDACTED] they are to be moved to the Foundation-owned farmland as directed in SCP-XXXX's containment procedures.
