Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Frequent review of audio and video data collected by stationary cameras and drones throughout SCP-XXXX’s projected area of activity. Investigation of any deaths or disappearances reported within the projected area of activity for any sign of human contact with SCP-XXXX. Due to the extended period of apparent dormancy on the part of SCP-XXXX dispatch of manned search and research teams into SCP-XXXX’s projected field of activity have been put on indefinite hold.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 1.8 to 2.1 metre tall humanoid with sparse grey hair and pale pink skin. Its face has been described by witnesses as warped or lacking recognisable features. A notable feature of SCP-XXXX is a manner of walking that has been described by witnesses as halting, jerking, and unnatural as well as knee joints that seem to bend at odd angles unlike those of a human or known animal. There is also a reported instance of a significantly shorter specimen, standing about 1.2 meters. Whether this is a juvenile or simply an example of height variability among individuals is currently unknown.

SCP-XXXX is also noted for its distinctive vocalizations that are composed of high pitched clicking that can travel for several miles.

The existence of SCP-XXXX first came to the attention of the foundation in January of 1989 after the disappearance of four hikers in ███████ national park, and subsequent discovery of three bodies several days later. The sole surviving member of the group having been separated from his companions and found by park officials two days prior to the discovery of the other’s bodies.

In his report to local law enforcement the survivor stated that the group had vered from their intended path due to what had been expected to be light snowfall developing into a severe snowstorm. Several times he and his companions heard loud, clicking vocalizations that they could not attribute to a known animal, despite them being well experienced with the wildlife of the area. Additionally he reported catching short glimpses of an unidentified creature that he believed to be following the expedition. He speculates that it may have been a bear suffering from mange or some other skin disease resulting in hair loss, as well as having some kind of leg injury that resulted in it standing only on its hind legs and an unusual, jerking gait.

The bodies of the three other hikers, when discovered, were each mutilated to some degree. One had several defensive wounds on his hands and arms as well as a partially caved in chest and the others had long lacerations along their arms as well as one missing his tongue. The medical examiner determined the first had been attacked with a club or blunt axe and the others with a sharp blade, the tongue having been removed premortem.

When foundation agents began their investigation a report came to their attention made in November of 1987 from a driver traveling along a remote stretch of road located approximately 8 kilometers from the later discovery of the three hikers.

The report claims that while traveling during heavy snowfall the driver spotted two individuals traveling along the roadside, one very tall estimated at 1.9 meters, the other at about 1.2 meters, possibly a child. While approaching the driver at first believed the individuals to be wearing white clothing but as she came closer realized they were naked. Slowing with intent to offer aid the driver then became aware of the strange gait of the individuals which the driver noted as unsettling. When finally coming up alongside the individuals they turned allowing the driver to see their faces, which she described as warped. Though later in a second interview with local law enforcement she stated that she believed them to be wearing masks, and again in the same interview that she was unable to see their faces at all due to the heavy snowfall. This caused her to quickly accelerate away and seek out law enforcement.

In the months following the discovery of the hikers the foundation conducted several investigations of surrounding forested areas to uncover evidence of an undiscovered or otherwise anomalous humanoid creature living in the region. No physical evidence was found, but on multiple occasions research teams were able to record loud vocalizations from unknown sources that were described as clicking or chittering. Analysis of the recordings determined that the sounds were not mechanical in nature and were likely communication between two or more individual creatures. The tests were not able to conclude if any kind of language was present or if they were simply a type of animal call.

Despite the continued lack of physical evidence despite extensive search there were a total of 16 sightings by locals documented by foundation personnel between 1989 and 2008. Though there were no more confirmed attacks on humans the reports of the entity’s physical appearance have been consistent and descriptions of vocializations have matched the foundation’s recordings. The tracking of these sightings shows a correlation with heavy snowfall though the relevance of this is yet unknown.

Addendum: An instance of potential human interaction with SCP-XXXX involves the death of former United States Air Force master sergeant ████ ██████ on 12/26/1996. The sergeant was found dead in a motel 11 kilometers north of the location of the hikers discovered in 1989 and after a night of heavy snowfall. The cause of death was ruled to be blood loss from long lacerations along both arms, apparently self inflicted. In addition the sergeant's tongue had been removed with what the medical examiner described as a blunt chopping instrument. The room door was locked and there was no evidence of a struggle. Though the tongue was not found, neither in the motel room nor in the sergeant's stomach contents, the death was ultimately deemed a suicide.

Before retiring in 1986 master sergeant ██████ was stationed at █████████ air force base, located 10 kilometers northeast of ███████ national park and possibly within SCP-XXXX’s area of activity. The base itself was decommissioned in March of 1987 and all personnel moved to other sites.

Officially █████████ air force base was a communication relay hub for coordination of military operations in the area. However very little information about the specific operations conducted on the site can be found in declassified materials made available to the public or in still classified materials obtained by the foundation. The site was investigated by foundation personnel but no evidence of SCP-XXXX activity or any other anomalous activity was found.

Addendum-2 The final documentation of SCP-XXXX activity was a series of vocalizations recorded by foundation personnel on 12/19/2008. The vocalizations lasted for approximately three minutes and appeared to be a series of calls and responses between two individuals. Since this time there have been no recordings, sightings, nor encounters believed to be related of SCP-XXXX and it is unknown if they still operate in this area. Continued usage of foundation resources in this area will be up for review at ██/██/████.
