Entrance to Eagle Fork Coal Mine
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained onsite. The surrounding 20 kilometers are to be closed off to civilian traffic, and all civilians attempting to enter the area are to be turned away under the guise of government research on localized tremors and collapsing mines.
Two hydrogen bombs of a combined yield of no less than 180 Petajoules1 are to be located near SCP-XXXX.
The area containing surrounding the center of SCP-XXXX is to be as enclosed as practically possible with concrete walls at least 50 centimeters thick with 5 centimeters of lead shielding. Multiple radiation sensors are to be placed within this enclosure. Should the level of ionizing radiation exceed 5000 mSv for a period of one hour, Protocol FM-LB is to be primed, and senior staff notified.
In the event of an XXXX-Expansion event, Protocol FM-LB is to be immediately enacted until the event ceases.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a localized wormhole located within Eagle Fork Coal Mine, approximately 30 kilometers from Stump Creek, Pennsylvania, United States. At rest, it appears as a pure white disc hovering parallel with the ground. The size of the anomaly was measured at 0.81 m when it was first contained in 1927, but has since grown to over 10 kilometers as of November 2023.
All matter that comes into contact with SCP-XXXX disappears for between 2 and 30 seconds, before being launched out at high speeds. With the size of the anomaly at the present time, this means that the ground above it has grown weak, with any part of the soil that touches it being shifted around. This has led to numerous sinkholes in the area around the anomaly.
SCP-XXXX was first discovered on March 3rd, 1927, when Daniel Levings, a senior miner for Eagle Fork Mining, became trapped in a room by an unexpected cave-in during normal mining operations. When the rest of his team was unable to dig him a path out, the decision was made to evacuate the mine and clear the way using dynamite, even at risk of total cave collapse.
According to accounts, all explosives failed to detonate, and all further attempts failed in the same way. Upon trying once again to manually dig, several miners reported that the heads of their tools would suddenly break. One miner returned to Stump Creek for assistance, where Foundation assets learned of the situation and moved to investigate.
While clearing the path, SCP-XXXX was found hidden within the rubble of the collapse. Once Mr. Levings was freed and the pathway clear, all Eagle Fork Mining employees were given Class-A amnestics and Eagle Fork Mine was closed indefinitely.
