Item #: SCP-5009
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5009 is to be contained in a windowless room approximately 10' by 10', with a height of 12'. The lock and door handle must be ceramic. The floor, walls, and ceiling must be lined in at least 2 inches of rubber insulation. The floor, walls, and ceiling must also display six unique configurations of ceramic insulator rods; each of which must be ribbed with ridges approximately 1/3rds of an inch apart. These rods must be planted perpendicular to the surfaces they are mounted on and must be at least 5 inches away from one another.
Under no circumstances should personnel approach SCP-5009 without removing all electronic devices from their person. Researchers are required to wear rubber suits and, upon entering the room containing SCP-5009, must immediately close the door behind them, using only candles in ceramic or glass candle holders or lanterns to light their way.
Researchers must not remain in the containment room with SCP-5009 for longer than 9 minutes.
Description: SCP-5009 is an electric execution chair five feet and seven inches in height, two feet and four inches wide, made of wood (possibly loblolly pine). It bears six leather straps with stainless steel buckles; one on each arm, two on the post between the front leg rests, and two around the middle-back post, presumably that wraps around the victim's shoulders and connects to a belt. (The belt is missing.) A bowl-shaped, metal electrode hangs over the space where the victim's head would be if they were strapped into the chair.
The Foundation was notified of SCP-5009 on 04-13-████ after the failed execution of Isidore ██████████, hereafter referred to as SCP-5009-1. At approximately 11:35 AM on 04-09-████, SCP-5009-1, who had not displayed any anomalous properties prior to his scheduled execution, was placed into the electric chair. He was electrocuted by 3,115 volts, far above the state regulations.
Witnesses described the event as "horrific" and "grotesque." SCP-5009-1 did not lose consciousness and, instead, screamed in pain. Sparks and electric discharge flashed around the chair, which was indicative of a loose wire or potential malfeasance. The shock lasted approximately 34 seconds, during which time SCP-5009-1 continued to scream.
When power was finally cut from the chair, SCP-5009-1 continued to scream, though he appeared more frightened than pained, according to witnesses. SCP-5009-1 screamed the following phrases:
- "Where am I?"
- "Where is Emma?"
- "Who are you people?"
- "Let me out! Let me out of this chair! Let me out!"
When staff moved in to examine SCP-5009-1, the electric discharge began again, this time reaching a far higher voltage. Several bolts of electricity struck the staff and charred the walls and floor around SCP-5009. Scorch marks indicate that voltage exceeded 4,000 volts.
SCP-5009-1 continued to scream before a "blinding light" engulfed his body. A moment later, SCP-5009 ceased its electric discharge and SCP-5009-1 was gone. No remains were recovered.
ADDENDUM 001
Dr. ████████ was sent in with an extraction team to recover SCP-5009. Examining the area lead her to the conclusion that SCP-5009-1 may have been vaporized, though the SCP-5009 itself was not connected to any visible power source. No residual powder, ash, or elements remained of SCP-5009-1.
The extraction team loaded the device into the back of an iron-clad transport truck attempted to return to Site-██. Two extraction team members climbed into the cabin and the remaining three members drove with Dr. ████████
In transit, the truck suddenly veered off the road, crashing into a nearby tree. Dr. ████████ noted that the inside of the truck was charred with electrical burns. Another transport was called in and a clean-up crew came to take care of the deceased extraction team members.
ADDENDUM 002
Once at Site-██, Dr. ████████ moved SCP-5009 into an unoccupied observation room. What follows is an entry from her log files.
ADDENDUM 003a
Dr. ████████ moved into an 8-foot radius, SCP-5009 activated and released another discharge. A severely burned and barely conscious SCP-5009-1 reappeared in the original bindings.
The following conversation occurred between Dr. ████████ and SCP-5009-1:
ADDENDUM 003b.
The following notes detail the events that occurred between 04-16-████ and 05-28-████.
[[collapsible]]
- Dr. ████████ waited in the room for approximately one minute before SCP-5009-1 reappeared after more electric discharge. He screamed a single word "PLEASE!" before disappearing again.
- The next reappearance lasted for a few seconds before SCP-5009-1 disappeared again.
