Draft for SCP-???? (The Crossover Episode)

rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-????

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-????-1 is to be kept stored in Head Researcher ██████'s office unless testing is to be undertaken. During testing, the content of the media used is to be evaluated, and if deemed safe enough, the test may take place in Site ██'s break room and attended by any level 1 clearance staff that are off duty. If the content of the media used is deemed dangerous or otherwise unsuitable, the test must be performed within a standard test room and may only be observable by personnel assigned to SCP-????.

All recordings of instances of SCP-????-2 are to be kept in Head Researcher ██████'s office, on both compact disk and removable USB storage.

A specialised program must be running 24/7 across all accessible networks to find any instances of SCP-????-2. Typically, video content that is an instance of SCP-????-2 is referred to by its creators as a 'crossover episode'. Additionally, audio content that is an instance of SCP-????-2 is referred to as a 'mashup'. Upon finding any possible instances, the program must compare them against the list of non-anomalous crossover-episodes and mashups, and report any possible instances that do not match the list. This list is to be maintained by the staff assigned to SCP-???? when SCP-????-1 is not scheduled for testing.

"I don't have to remind you how important it is that we find and remove any instances of SCP-????-2. If there are anymore versions of SCP-????-1 out there, then it is our top priority to recover them. In the wrong hands, this is the ultimate propaganda and blackmail tool." - Head Researcher ██████

Description:
SCP-???? refers to both SCP-????-1, and its creations (SCP-????-2)

SCP-????-1 is a video playback device, resembling a VHS player. It has two modular disk readers that seem to be able to read any media file on any portable storage placed on it. On its front, there are a number of buttons that correspond to "Play/Pause", "Rewind", "Fast-Forward", "Context Menu", "Eject Left Media", and "Eject Right Media". On its reverse side is a series of audio-visual output ports, one for each major audio-visual cable made in the last half-century, with 1█ additional ports of unknown design.

SCP-????-1's primary anomalous effect occurs when two media files are loaded at once. Upon powering the system, a context menu with a seven-segmented slider, with the segments labelled as followed:

1: [Left Media File Name] Only
2: [Left Media File Name] With [Right Media File Name] Cameos
3: [Left Media File Name] With [Right Media File Name] Plot Involvement
4: [Left Media File Name] With [Right Media File Name] True Crossover
5: [Right Media File Name] With [Left Media File Name] Plot Involvement
6: [Right Media File Name] With [Left Media File Name] Cameos
7: [Right Media File Name] Only

Options 1 & 7 produce the original respective media file used with no anomalous effects. All other options produce instances of SCP-????-2.

SCP-????-2 are media files that combine characters, settings, and plot elements from both media files. The files used can be text, video or audio, but the greater the detail, the more detailed the crossover becomes. Music can be used as well, combining the styles of artists to create mashups and covers of the original media used.

SCP-????-1 was discovered by Intern James ██████ on an internet forum he frequently browsed. On ██-02-200█, this forum began discussing 'Crossover Episodes', a term for any episode of a TV show that features main characters from another TV show, usually found in comedies. One user, Mr H. ████ (online handle ███████01) reported that he 'loved crossovers, especially the How I Met Your Mother / Brooklyn Nine Nine one.' James inquired Mr. ████ about the episode in question, stating that he was a big fan of both shows, but did not remember such an episode. Mr. ████ then sent a recording of SCP-????-2a, a crossover episode unknowingly created by Mr. ████. Upon watching the creation, James noted that several plot points and character motivations meant that either this story was ignoring several years of both show's canon, or that something more anomalous was happening.

James then reported SCP-????-2a to his assigned supervisor, which led to the discovery that a crossover episode between both shows was never filmed, written or planned at any time. A internet search on Mr. ████'s online handle revealed the existence of three more anomalous files, (2b-d respectively). The Foundation then brought Mr. ████ in for questioning, in which it was discovered he'd bought SCP-????-1 at a garage sale, and was unaware of how it worked.

Although no other true instances of SCP-????-2 have been found, it has been declared a high priority for the SCP-???? to ensure that the Foundation's copy of SCP-????-1 is the only copy, due to potential concerns over blackmail and propaganda usage.

Episode starts with an unknown man performing a heist on HIMYH character Barney Stinson's suit collection. On finding it stolen, the title credits roll, with the Brooklyn Nine Nine title credits style and music used. Detectives Peralta and Boyle from B99 show up to the scene and begin investigating. The duo interrogate HIMYM's main cast. Soon after, Captain Holt (B99) and Detective Diaz (B99) show up to inform Peralta and Boyle that a mysterious black market merchant has a large collection of suits on sale. Stinson suggests he should go undercover as a buyer for the suits. Mosby (HIMYM) is reluctant to join him, but agrees after meeting Diaz. Later, Diaz rebuffs Mosby's advances, leading to a 'Classic Mosby' breakdown in the black market merchant's warehouse. After explaining himself, the merchant/thief explains that he too was rejected by a woman called Diaz. Peralta, Diaz and Holt make the connection that the merchant is the Pontiac Bandit (B99), but are unable to arrest him before he escapes. At the same time, various sets of characters from both shows have their side plots. Both sets of characters have a drink at B99's bar. Cut to credits.
