The 8 Ball

Item #: 5256

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedure: SCP-5256 is to be contained in a 15cm x 15cm x 15cm steel box with a keypad with the passcode [REDACTED], and is to be guarded by no less than 2 guards. In order to be inside the chamber, the personnel must possess a [REDACTED] and above and must ask permission from Class 4 Operatives in order to access the room. It is strongly required that there are camera's outside the doors and inside the containment chamber. Inside the containment chamber, cameras are to be shut off during testing and if the box is open. Anybody who enters without permission is to be strictly prosecuted and possibly terminated. The door leading to SCP-5256 is to remain shut unless testing occurs indefinitely.

In an event of a containment breach, the keypad is required to be disabled so no personnel is subject to open the box, unless they possess [REDACTED]. The door is to be disabled as well unless personnel are provided with a [REDACTED] to enter the observation room and turn on the doors function.

Picture of SCP-5256 when it was discovered at [DATA EXPUNGED] in 19██.

Description: Discovered in an [DATA EXPUNGED] in 19██, SCP-5256 (A.K.A. "The 8 Ball") looks exactly like a normal Magic 8 Ball that kids play with, however, tests with the SCP has proven it has more to show than a normal Magic 8 Ball. Whenever a subject is within 2 meters in range around SCP-5256, they will become obsessed with trying to open the box, if closed. If the box is open, and SCP-5256 is exposed, the subject is compelled to ask a question about their near future. Tests have shown to be approximately 15-20 days in the future. This effect is also displayed when looking at it via video surveillance, but not as strong as when a subject is physically near the object. Tests with multiple subjects have shown that wearing SCP-714 negates the effect that SCP-5256 causes.

If said subject asks a question, SCP-5256 answers with an accurate prediction and said subject becomes SCP-5256-1. Once asked, SCP-5256-1 is no longer attracted to SCP-5256 and the same subject cannot ask another question when forced. This also attracts SCP-5256-2, which subjects have proclaimed are tall humanoid entities, that are very animate, and appear for short periods of time. As the days go on, SCP-5256-2 appears more often and starts becoming hostile towards SCP-5256-1, to the point where the subject can get [DATA EXPUNGED] and die within seconds.

SCP-5256-2 cannot be seen by any other person besides ones who had provoked SCP-5256. When starting to become hostile, SCP-5256-2 will start to flick SCP-5256-1 on either the face or arms, causing insomnia. At the start of hostility, SCP-5256-2 also causes minor sensory issues, examples include light flashes in the eyes, smelling urine when no urine is present, hearing light whispers, feeling something tickle your feet, and/or when eating, feeling no taste at all. As days progress, SCP-5256-2 will start scratching and slapping becoming more hostile by either scratching or slapping. The sensory issues, and insomnia also grows gradually worse, where as subjects hears conversations by their cell doors without no one there. Mild hallucinations have been recorded from 10 of the 30 subjects tested, some of them seeing deceased family members, and some reporting a black mist surround them.

The slapping and scratching becomes punching and slashing by day 10, the insomnia becomes sleep deprivation, and the sensory issues go from things such as smelling urine to not being able to smell anything at all, mild hallucinations to severe hallucinations (Includes examples such as being in another world), legs and arms becoming completely numb, and not being able to taste foods properly. SCP-5256-2 at this point can cause colorblindness in some subjects and mental illnesses for example:

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Medium to Severe Depression
  • Acute Stress Disorder (ASD)
  • Amnesia
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
  • Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
  • Borderline Intellectual Disorder: In instance of this, causes subjects to lose IQ.
  • Permanent Insomnia
  • Nightmare Disorder
  • Mass Hysteria

All instances of SCP-5256-2 cease as soon as subject receives outcome that 5256 predicted.

As of right now, 22 18 of the 30 subjects that were tested had survived are surviving and received the outcome that SCP-5256 predicted.

List of Deaths from instances of SCP-5256-2:

  • D-9983: Deceased from sustaining massive blows to the head, causing Trauma.
  • D-10002: Deceased from blood loss due to laceration through heart.
  • D-9927: Deceased from suicide from hallucinations with note describing: "I'm going to the flower fields! I hope you can come too! :D"
  • D-9998: Deceased from suicide via cutting wrist open yelling: "I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!"
  • D-9985: Deceased from [DATA EXPUNGED].
    • Note: This requires massive cleanup!
  • D-10032: Deceased from severe seizure due to multiple concussion prior.
  • D-10025: Deceased from suicide for unknown reasons via hanging.
    • Note: Noose discovered 3 days after death.
  • D-9989: Deceased from sleep deprivation, was believed that subject didn't get sleep for over 72 hours.

Addendum-1: It appears that 4 of the remaining 22 subjects have deceased from sustaining multiple injuries after the event of SCP-5256-2. Autopsies show multiple fractured and broken bones from said deceased subjects including one who had a broken skull, with pieces of bone inside the brain.

Addendum-1a: List of Deaths after the events of SCP-5256:

  • D-9980: Deceased from Suicide via hanging with note describing: "The pain is unbearable, I want to be free."
  • D-9999: Deceased from Trauma via broken skull. Pieces of Bone have been found in the brain of said subject.
  • D-10040: Deceased by termination because he "wanted to make others feel what he felt".
  • D-10010: Deceased by stroke due to BED causing blood clots.

Addendum-2: Even though SCP-5256's most common questions are approximately 15-20 days into the future, tests have proven that its range is from 2.5 hours to 30 days. Any questions above 30 days and below 2.5 hours are outright impossible for SCP-5256 and it just says "It is out of my reach to answer that question. Try again."

Addendum-3: Subjects who had survived all unanimously agree that SCP-5256-2 becomes hostile around day 5-6 4-5, and starts with minor flicks to the face and arms. Subjects also have no recognition to what SCP-5256-2's appearance looks like, just that it's tall and has a humanoid figure. There is a need to test further for appearance. There is no testing on SCP-5256 indefinitely.

Note from Dr. ████████████: Subject D-9290 has proclaimed to have only bruises and no lacerations from SCP-5256-2. When proven to be true, meaning that there are only bruises, I had to conduct interviews with the remaining 17 subjects to fact check if SCP-5256-2's attacks are at best, more random than thought to be.

AUDIO LOG RECORDED ON 10/03/20██:

[TIME: █████, DATE: 10/03/20██, SITE-██]

Dr. ████████████: Interview 12 out of 17 has begun session. *Puts notebook on table*

D-10012: What?

Dr. ████████████: None of your concern. *Clears Throat* Now, how do you feel?

D-10012: Like I been put through Hell and back.

Dr. ████████████: How so?

D-10012: These things, Doc. They cutted me up like butter, and these cuts hurt like you have just been put on fire. I don't really enjoy fires doc.

Dr. ████████████: Hmmm… Interesting, indeed Interesting. Can you please tell me when these "things" started to appear for me?

D-10012: *Hesitates* Well, they started showing up the day after I asked something from the damn 8-ball. At the day of testing! You remember, don't you?

Dr. ████████████: Yes. I clearly do remember. What did you ask?

D-10012: I asked "What is going to happen to me at the end of the month?".

Dr. ████████████: You asked this on February 12th, correct?

D-10012: Yeah.

Dr. ████████████: *Jots down notes in notebook* Okay, when did SCP-5256-2 start showing hostility?

D-10012: Is that what you call them? *Starts to become agitated* They're not SCP-5256-2, they, are absolute fucking monsters.

Dr. ████████████: I do not need your aggressiveness Subject D-10012. *Clears Throat* When did they start attacking you?

D-10012: Around 5 days after I asked the question doc. *Calms down* It all started with minor flicks but as the day went on it became more and more painful.

Dr. ████████████: Okay, and my apologies for not asking before, what did the 8-ball say to you when you asked the question?

D-10012: *thinking* Ummm… Oh! It said that I'll be held in a cell for interviewing. I guess it was right.

Dr. ████████████: *nods* Alright, and can you tell me what the instances of SCP-5256-2 looked like.

D-10012: All I know is that they were tall motherfuckers and were moving all over the place.

Dr. ████████████: Anything else?

D-10012: No, they were so fast, I couldn't make out what they looked like.

Dr. ████████████: Okay, when you were being cut up, were there any sensations of being punched?

D-10012: *Thinking* Ummm… No, Doc. They were just cutting me up. Nothing else.

Dr. ████████████: *Jots more notes in notebook* Interesting. Well, I believe that is all I need to ask you D-10012, you may return to your cell.

D-10012: Thank you for having me Doc.

*D-10012 is reported to have left the room*

Dr. ████████████: *Thinking* I need to see the O-5 Council, I need to tell them that there is no further testing on this thing indefinitely.

<END LOG>

Addendum-4: SCP-5256-2's attacks are completely random and can range from medium sized cuts to severe cuts and bruises with bones either broken or fractured. Testing has come to a halt as of ██████████ and is to stay that way indefinitely.
