Catherine’s life has always been tough: since when she was born her face was horribly deformed, this is why her parents, who were the richest people in town and the most important ones and so they couldn’t have their reputation ruined, always made her wear bandages all over her face. Like if it wasn’t enough, Catherine had a really particular cognitive problem: she couldn’t understand any image or picture, not even the simplest ones. Her parents consulted various people but no one was ever able to resolve the problem or understand the cause.
Catherine didn’t have any friend: everyone would call her “freak” or “retarded” and they would bully her very often.
Catherine’s life was a real Hell but one day everything changed.
It was September 26, 2004 and Catherine had just come back from school: she was dirty and bleeding a bit because she had a fight with a classmate. However, as soon as she entered home, she went immediately to her room without telling anything to her parents: she knew they wouldn’t have cared, one time her father even told her “You’re a Myers, so don’t act like a crybaby!”
From her room she could hear her parents arguing, like every day. In public they would act like if they were the perfect couple but in the truth they hated each other. This time, however, Catherine would hear another voice too, the voice of a woman she’s never heard before.
“Hello, Catherine! You don’t mind if I call you Cat, right?” said the voice with a friendly tone.
Catherine suddenly jumped back and looked around, confused. “W-who are you?” she asked, looking around again, trying to see who was talking, only to see she was alone in the room.
“Yours is such a sad life, isn’t it?” said the voice, ignoring Catherine’s question “Everyone hate you because you are different. But that’s how people act: if they something or someone different they are scared of it and hate it. They even call them ‘monsters’.”
While Catherine was kinda scared by this mysterious voice she knew she was right: she never did anything bad in her life and yet everyone acted towards her like if she was a monster to imprison, to keep away from other people.
“But if you want my opinion this all started because of your parents.” said the voice “After all, didn’t they force you to cover your face for your whole life?”
Catherine thought about that for a second: the woman was right once again. Her parents made her seem a monster to everyone else. They ignored her, made her hide her face, they acted like if she wasn’t even their daughter. Now Catherine wasn’t afraid anymore: all she could feel was anger and hatred towards her parents.
The voice suddenly giggled and then said “You deserve better, Cat. I think you should punish them for acting so bad towards a beautiful girl like you.”
Catherine stood there, still for a few minutes and then a wicked smile appeared on her face. She proceeded to remove her bandages and walk towards the kitchen, grabbing a knife. She then hid it on her back and walked to the room where her parents were. They both stopped arguing as soon as they saw their daughter without her bandages.
“Catherine!” said the mother “What are you doing without your bandages?!?”
“I don’t need them…” she said, with an emotionless voice “because I’m beautiful!”
“Catherine Myers” said the father “go in your room and put back your bandages on your face!”
Catherine remained silent for a few seconds and then said with a creepy tone “You don’t consider me beautiful, mommy and daddy? Because my new friend does.”
“Ok, that’s enough.” muttered the father as she started walking towards Catherine. As soon as he got close enough his throat was cut by the blade of the knife and he fell in a puddle of blood.
The mother watched, horrified and tried to run away but Catherine quickly reached and after tackling her to the ground she proceeded to stab her face.
“SAY I’M BEAUTIFUL!” yelled Catherine like a mad person while continuing to stab her mother’s face, even after she was dead.
Cather remained there, stabbing the dead woman for a few minutes before stopping. She looked at her dead parents and started crying. “What have I done?” she said while dropping the knife “Now everyone will really consider me a monster!” Cather then ran towards her room, crying and put back her bandages on her face.
She remained there crying for an hour before the mysterious woman started speaking again: “Shhh, don’t cry.”
Catherine stopped crying and looked around, seeing this time an actual person: she was a woman around the 25-30 years old, approximately 1.80 meters tall. She had a clown makeup on her face, with a big purple nose, purple lipstick and long purple hair, which was in contrast with her almost-aristocratic black suit and top hat.
“Oh, how silly I am!” she said “I haven’t even introduced myself! The name’s Mother, nice to meet you!” she then purposed an handshake but Catherine didn’t move.
Mother looked at Catherine with a confused look and asked “Why are you so sad, Cat? Your bad parents won’t annoy you anymore. You should be happy!”
“No one will ever love me…” Catherine said, sniffing “not only I am stupid and ugly but now I’m also a killer…”
Mother looked at her and sighed a bit before walking to her “Look, if you want my honest opinion you aren’t ugly but, if you want, I can make you even more beautiful.”
Catherine looked at her with her eyes still full of tears “Really?”
“Yes!” she replied “I will make you so beautiful that everyone will forgive you for what happened before!”
Catherine remained still for a bit, thinking: could she trust Mother? After all, she made her kill her own parents but it seems that she just wanted to help her.
“… ok.” said Catherine.
Mother smiled as suddenly Catherine’s bandages started expanding all over her body.
“W-what the-“ said Catherine before one of the bandages covered her mouth.
“Sleep, Cat.” said Mother with a warm smile “Tomorrow will be a better day, I promise.”
After these words, Catherine fell in a deep sleep.
When Catherine woke up the next day, Mother was gone. Catherine also felt a bit strange: she felt taller and sticky. With horror she looked at her arms and saw they were covered in black bandages. She then ran to the bathroom and looked herself in the mirror: she was now way taller than before, maybe even 2 meters, and her whole body was completely covered in black bandages, not even her eyes were visible. She panicked and tried to removed the bandages but it was useless: those bandages were her body now.
She stared at the mirror for a bit and then started laughing like someone who has lost completely their sanity. “I’m so beautiful!” she said, with such a joy she’s never had “Mother was right! Wait… Mother! I need to find her and thank her for this!”
Catherine ran out of her house, looking for Mother. A man who was walking past by saw and her and yelled, scared “What the Hell is that thing?”
Catherine looked at the man “Is he insulting me?” she thought “No, that’s not possible, I’m beau- oh, of course! He must like my new look!”
Catherine wrapped her bandages around the man like long tentacles and pulled him closer to her. “Don’t be shy.” she said, giggling “How about we go in and talk a bit? My parents won’t bother us.”
