SCP-3220

Item #: SCP-3220

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3220 must be contained in a 5m x 5m cell, away from any electrical outlets or canned goods. All requests for entry into SCP-3220's cell, conducting research and/or experimentation must be submitted to the on-site research coordinator for approval. Unauthorized attempts to remove SCP-3220 from its cell will result in immediate suspension pending review. Any Foundation personnel found in unauthorized possession of SCP-3220, or attempting to convince or coerce individuals to operate SCP-3220, will be reassigned to D-Class duties.

Description: SCP-3220 is a 1973 Rival Model 782/5 Can Opener and Knife Sharpener. The unit is devoid of any signs of aging or degradation, aside from slight oxidation on the blades. Attempts to disassemble, alter or destroy the unit in any way have proven unsuccessful.

When someone places a can designed to be opened by a can opener, regardless of contents, into the cutting unit of SCP-3220 and punctures it with the blade, a deep laceration will appear on the neck of the individual operating SCP-3220. No pain is apparently felt. As the can rotates in the cutting unit, the laceration will mirror the movement, moving three-hundred and sixty degrees from the initial wound until the lid of the can has been fully removed. At that time, the laceration will return to the point of origin, and the head of the subject will be cleanly decapitated along the laceration line. Subjects will remain fully alive until the can lid is completely removed.

SCP-3220 was found in the home of ███████ ███████ after their prolonged absence was noticed by SCP personnel living next door. Upon entry, personnel discovered ███████'s body and separated head in their kitchen, next to a counter containing SCP-3220 and an opened, uncooked can of chicken noodle soup. After repairing the body per Foundation protocol to avoid raising community concerns, the death was reported to police, and SCP-3220 was extracted for analysis. Further investigation of ███████'s house revealed a purchase receipt for SCP-3220, dated the day before from "Burpee's Bargain Bin." To date, such a store has yet to be found.

Experiment Log

Test A - 3/3/2018

Subject: D-12462

Procedure: D-12462 is instructed to place a can of vegetable soup in SCP-3220 and open it.

Results: As D-12462 opens the can with SCP-3220, researchers note the growing laceration moving around his neck. D-12462 never remarks that he is in pain, nor does he acknowledge the growing cut on his neck. When the lid of the can is fully removed, D-12462's head falls to the floor, along with his body.

Analysis: SCP-3220 appears to mirror the cuts made into cans on the neck of the subject using SCP-3220. How it does so is unknown. The effect appears to be localized only to the user of SCP-3220.

Test B - 3/4/2018

Subject: D-13757

Procedure: D-13757 is instructed to place a can of cat food in SCP-3220 and open it until it is three-quarters of the way open. At that time, he is to stop operation, detach the can, and step away from SCP-3220. He is not informed of the known effects of operating SCP-3220.

Results: D-13757 follows instructions. At no point of using SCP-3220 does he express that he is in pain. The laceration around his neck matches the distance the can was opened. D-13757 completes instructions and attempts to step away. Upon doing so, D-13757's head begins bobbing off of his neck, attached only by what was not lacerated. Turning back towards researchers, he presents a thumbs-up and asks why his vision is "all lopsided."

Analysis: Termination and full decapitation of the subject only seems to occur when the lid of a can in SCP-3220 is fully removed.

Test C - 3/5/2018

Robot Acquisition ID: RMRH 1364 - Remotely Manned Robotic Humanoid "Hans"

Operator: D-26489

Procedure: D-26489, from a remote location outside of Site-█, is to pilot Hans into the room containing SCP-3220 and fully open a can of pineapple slices.

Results: Hans completes the can opening and steps away. Immediately, Hans falls to the floor as if deactivated. Foundation personnel monitoring D-26489 confirm that she has been decapitated in the same manner observed in previous tests.

Analysis: SCP-3220 only affects human users, even when those users remotely operate SCP-3220. How it does so remains unknown. The maximum range of this effect is as yet undetermined.
