Item #: SCP-6523
Object Class: Euclid Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the anomalous effects of SCP-6523, it is to be kept in its 54x16x35cm cardboard box, and stored in a standard 1.83m by 1.83m hermetically sealed containment chamber lined with .3m thick lead filled walls to lessen the effects of SCP-6523 at site ███. The room is to be kept locked at all times via a .6m steel door lined with .3m of lead. It is to remain locked at all times, with the exception of maintenance of monitoring equipment. Which must be cleared with one of the current Level 3 researchers. Monitoring of the subject will be done through a wireless camera system to avoid any possible exposure to SCP-6523. Any experimentation on SCP-6523 must be cleared with at a minimum of (2) level 4 staff.
Description: SCP-6523 appears to be a regular unnamed arcade fight stick peripheral commonly associated with a genre of video game known as fighting games. It's parts seem to have originated from China, though trying to track down any traces of who manufactured it has been unsuccessful. Original discovered by Foundation personnel after reports of a string of deaths related to SCP-6523 were reported to local law enforcement on █/7/2017.
Upon discovery of SCP-6523 it was found unplugged from a nearby game console, while no anomalous effects were reported, agents were instructed to recover SCP-6523. Upon returning to site ███, initial testing produced no results, and as such was labeled originally as safe and stored in a breakroom.
SCP-6523's anomalous nature isn't revealed until it is plugged into a gaming console and a fighting game is started. Subjects will become focused for no apparent reason and enter the training mode of the fighting game being played. Subject will ignore all verbal cues, refuse to take any breaks, eat, sleep, or drink. Subject will attempt to do a combo which will always drop at the same spot every time, even if it looks like it should work. After several hours and many failed attempts subjects will become very agitated, yelling at the screen, hitting SCP-6523, and in some cases violent outbursts at others who try to talk about putting SCP-6523 down, or try to remove SCP-6523 from subjects hands.
SCP-6523's anomalous effects weren't known until █/20/2017 when a staff member decided to play the recently released fighting game █████. Upon plugging in SCP-6523, subject became incredibly focused and spent the next several hours in █████'s training mode. Subject attempted to complete a combo that had dropped every time even though it looked like it was actually possible. While the subject was eventually separated from SCP-6523, all other site faculty who came into contact began to show similar symptoms of the original subject. Due to this SCP-6523 went originally from the classification of Safe to Euclid and containment procedures were developed to contain the SCP.
Though SCP-6523's anomalous effects at first were thought to be nonexistent while unplugged, further testing revealed prolonged exposure for more that 24 hours will eventually coerce the nearby subject to take SCP-6523 and plug them into a nearby video game console. Several tests were conducted after SCP-6523 was moved to it's new containment chamber. Listed below are the logs of 3 tests.
