"The Elephant's Foot"
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Located in the basement of Unit 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Ukraine. Due to the high radioactivity of the object, absolutely no personnel are allowed within 10 meters of the object without proper safety gear. Approximately once per year, a member of MTF Unit Sigma-48 is to examine and measure the radioactivity of the object.
Security Addendum: Following the application of the seal built around the plant, procedures listed below should cease.
Members of the public are permitted to enter, however they are required to have the approval of the Ukrainian Government and the SCP Foundation Chief Researcher Dr. ██████ . Members of the public are required to wear proper safety gear at all times while touring the grounds. Visitors will not be permitted to interfere with construction nor will they be permitted to enter the basements of any unit, nor the basement of Unit 4 where SCP-4021 is contained. An SCP Foundation agent with security clearance of Level 2 or greater must supervise any visitors of the plant at all times.
In the event of a major collapse of any building in the area, a 50 meter circumference around the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant grounds must be evacuated immediately. MTF units from surrounding sites are required to respond immediately and attempt to seal any breach of lethal gases or radioactive material.
Description: SCP-4021 is a mass of combined nuclear waste, concrete, a variety of metals and portions of the reactor in which SCP-4021 originated from. SCP-4021 was discovered on 12/█/1986 and appears to have originated within the reactor of Unit 4 and quickly melted through in the basement below. At its widest point, SCP-4021 measures approximately 2 meters. MTF members of Unit Sigma-48 have described the object as being bright orange in color. This is likely due to the large amounts of nuclear material mixed with the various metals of the structure.
SCP-4021 produces roughly 8,000 roentgens per hour. This dosage is enough to kill a human in approximately five minutes. This has made it classified as the most toxic object known to exist on Earth. The mass has been determined to decrease in radioactivity slightly every few years but remains a major threat due to the high radioactivity.
A short exposure to SCP-4021 within 10 meters will result in dangerous and often lethal side effects. After 30 seconds of exposure, subject will suffer extreme dizziness and often times fainting. After one week, the subject will begin noticing extreme fatigue. Two minutes of exposure will cause the subjects cells to begin hemorrhaging. After approximately four minutes of exposure, subject will begin suffering from severe diarrhea, extremely high fever and projectile vomiting. Five minutes of exposure will cause the subject to expire within 48 hours.
During early stages of side effects after five minutes of exposure, subjects will begin having hallucinations of a middle aged Russian man screaming at them. The subjects who have seen this hallucination have described him as being very distraught and frantically pushing bottoms on control panels as an alarm sounds. After four hours, the subject will show signs of skin inflammation. SCP Foundation researchers have discovered that this inflammation is painful for the subject, but it can be soothed by rubbing crushed tobacco leaves on affected areas of the skin. Ten hours after five minutes of exposure, subject will begin to show signs of severe depression, often resulting in suicide attempts. Eighteen hours after exposure, the subject's musculatory system will begin breaking down, causing immobility.
At the fortieth hour mark, subject will begin experiencing severe seizures. However, since the subject's musculatory system has been completely shut down, only the subject's head is affected by these seizures. Subject will begin to drool profusely as their head shakes ferociously. Foundation researchers have observed ten subjects dying by this point after exposure.
At approximately forty-eight hours, the subject will take long exhales before dying from suffocation. This suffocation has been linked to the subject's body being unable to inhale required levels of oxygen that need to be provided to blood cells.
