The Fish Balloon | Interdimensional SCP

Item#: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid; formerly Safe

Special Containment Procedures : SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a fish tank no smaller than 455L, complete with a habitat suitable for the care of most large fresh, salt, or brackish water fish. The tank should be placed in a room approximately 2.5 meters all around with a maximum room size of 30.5 meters.

Foundation personnel of security clearance 2 or higher are allowed into the room with SCP-XXXX and must be monitored by at least one guard of security clearance level 3 at all times. All personnel that wish to interact with SCP-XXXX must successfully pass a marine biology class before interacting with SCP-XXXX during its active stage. Requirement of security clearance level 4 with two armed guards at level 3 or above is necessary to remove the SCP from its containment after hours.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a Mylar, fish-shaped, balloon measuring 74cm x 51cm in size. The fish is a rust orange color along the body, pectoral fin, and caudal fin with blue and green polka dots along the body's surface. The dorsal and anal fins are an olive green with purple stripes adorning them; the head the same olive green with a large purple eye. The balloon is inflated with a plastic tube for holding.

This object has been located at multiple supermarket retailers, notably [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted]. SCP-XXXX resides mostly around the West Coast of the United States, notably appearing between [redacted], WA and [redacted], CA. Its most common spawn point is focused at [redacted], CA. If popped, the object will not be available for purchase until it has been dumped into a landfill, incinerated, or otherwise deemed destroyed/no longer in the vicinity of its current owner. No anomalous effects are known to be caused by SCP-XXXX until the item is purchased and brought to another destination.

SCP-XXXX does not indicate that it is different than a typical balloon between the hours of 04:01 AM to 19:59 PM. Between 20:00 PM to 04:00 AM its plastic tube disappears and the balloon makes movements similar to that of a live fish. Life seen in the SCP's area of effect does not seem to notice it or anyone else in the room the SCP resides. This rule changes when transported to an area known as "the silver sea" (see incident-XXXX-A).

When out of water and in its active phase, the room containing SCP-XXXX is empty save for all living organisms inside. The object swims in place and moves the entire room in what appears to be through various locations under the sea. The room experiences no change in air pressure, composition, or temperature during this phenomena. Foundation staff are capable of creating SCP-XXXX-01 during this stage.

SCP-XXXX-01 are living organisms pulled from the ocean during an SCP-XXXX event. Any fish, plant, or aquatic life acquired exhibits normal underwater functions outside of water. Fish are unaffected by the outside atmosphere and continue to swim around the room as if it is the sea. Small creatures with known dietary habits have been successfully fed regular fish food and remove waste.
