Item #: SCP-3189
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: When active, Schools along the west coast and areas near that will be monitored for developments of SCP-3189. If SCP-3189 is present in persons, they are to be taken to Site-██ for containment. These persons will be kept in standard humanoid containment cells, with constant lighting above 5,000 lumens1. There is no known way to stop the spread of SCP-3189 other then to stop self-termination.
Description: SCP-3189 is a virus that infects anyone under the age of 18 and with a mental disorder, regardless of diagnosis. This virus will spread through adults
(See Addendum-1) and infect the minors around them. It is initially caught by other children with SCP-3189, who are in stage 2 of the infection, who are then referred to as SCP-3189-1 . As to Foundation knowledge, Patient Zero is either dead or missing. Children that have been infected will begin to exhibit symptoms similar to the common cold, then begin to progress into stage two and will die upon stage 5
- Stage 1: Cold symptoms, low grade fever. SCP-3189 is not evident at this stage.
- Stage 2: SCP-3189 is now infectious, and the child is now known as SCP-3189-1. SCP-3189-1 currently displays sunken eyes, along with slight muscle dystrophy
- Stage 3: SCP-3189-1 will start to have enlongated limbs, and their skin will appear to turn black.
- Stage 4: At this point SCP-3189-1 will begin to seek dark places near schools or houses that have children with mental illness.
- Stage 5: SCP-3189-1 will proceed to self-terminate, and then release a pathogen of SCP-3189 for the next week which is highly potent, more so then Stage 2 infection. Any child in contact with this will immediately enter Stage 2. SCP-3189 will only self-terminate in darkness below 5,000 lumens.
The time between stages varies on the mental illness the said child has. For instance, a child with mild depression could take a month to reach Stage 5, while a child with severe depression or something as severe as this, can take up to a week. The quickest transformation having been 3 days2
Currently, it is not known how they find houses or schools with children that have varying mental disorders and illnesses. Another thing to take note of about SCP-3189-1, they are docile and calm but appear to cry into their hands when alone. They display sentience from before the infection, but are unable to vocalize or write due to the enlogated vocal chords and hands, which often end up deformed. The virus keeps SCP-3189-1 alive until they self-terminate in darkness under 5,000 lumens. Attempts at killing or destroying SCP-3189-1 results in [DATA EXPUNGED].
Active periods range from The beginning of October to the end of December. The Foundation has been searching for reasons for this, but it can only be assumed that this is because of nights becoming longer, meaning darkness is also present for a longer time.
Addendum-1: There has been no adult infections, but this does not rule out the possibility of adults becoming infected. Research into antidepressants and similar drugs and there affect on SCP-3189 will take place in light of the amount of adults that take prescription for mental disorders and illnesses
