SCP-5120 containment unit
Item #: SCP-5120
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: The object is contained in a brass cylinder, measuring 96 cm in diameter and 2,08 m tall. The brass walls of the containment unit are 24 cm thick. The object is to be periodically immerged in an acidic substance. This liquid must has a pH inferior to 2,6, preferably lemon (citrus limon) juice. This extract must be strained to remove any floating particles above 0.1 mm. The object is to be held at the center of the cylinder. It is supported by four, equally distancing, stainless steel supports.
The container is to be emptied every 15 minutes, then filled with hot, humid air for 45 minutes. The cycle must be repeated continuously. After 10 cycles, the lemon juice must be renewed. This process facilitates the formation of rust on the object's surface. The air surrounding the cylinder must be kept humid at temperature over 30 degrees Celsius.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a small rodent bearing a strong resemblance in size an weight to a newborn Malayan porcupine (Hystrix brachyura). The object is devoid of facial features and a tail. It does not necessitate to be fed. It's beige skin sags in lumps over it's four extremities. Sprouting from it's flesh are metallic growths resembling quills. The method it employs to recognize it's environment is currently unknown. At it's extremities are sharp metallic claws of an unknown material.
These growths are sharpened in a various array of knives, ranging from combat knives, to utility knives. The appendages are composed of 30% of titanium and 70% of iron. The knifes, arranged like quills, are compressed in a dense and erratic pattern from the forehead to the shoulder blades. These quills then space into a more aligned manner towards the thighs. These growths are sharpened in such manner that it can cut through any know material. It is to be noted that despite the variety in the shapes of the knives, none of them are sharpened on both sides.
The object will sometimes collapse on itself to form a perfect sphere. This manifestation only occurs when the quills are rusted. Any other damage sustained to the quills will only result in the discard of the damaged quill, then the growth of a identical replica of the damaged quill's original form. The sphere is of a polished silver color, showing no apparent sign of rust. The object will stay in this shape for a variating period of time, ranging from a few hours to a couple of weeks. The exact reason to determine the length of period that the object will stay in it's sphere form is currently unknown. It is hypothesized that it will stay longer collapsed on itself if the rust on it's appendages is heavy, thought studies have been inconclusive on this point. At the end of this process, SCP-XXXX will unfold and exhibit its quills. These will have been polished and sharpened to their original appearance.
The object is of a peaceful nature, being aggressive only if it feel threatened. It will generally try to flee in the presence of human beings. It will then seek the nearest hiding place, going in a corner if it cannot find any. Further attempts to make contact with the object will invariably result in an aggressive reaction. Any attempts to approach SCP-XXXX is strongly discouraged for this reason. It is to be noted that SCP-XXXX always emit a whining sound before it becomes aggressive, similar of those of an injured animal.
When attacking the source of it's fear, SCP-XXXX will project itself on the target, using its hind legs as a propulsion method. It will then do a rotation in the air to land on it's target with its quills facing it. It will the attack what the object considers a threat by repeatedly slicing the target, alternating between using its claws and its quills.
thought its claws are not as resistant or sharp as the quills on its back, SCP-XXXX uses them as its primary weapon against any attacker. The quills on the back of the object are considered a defense mechanism, rarely being involved into an actual fight. It is also hypothesized that the object uses its claws to sharpen its quills while it in into its spherical state, though no evidence has ever been obtained of such process, due to SCP-XXXX aggressive nature when approached.
**Addendum: Growth
the object seems to have begun its growth. The process was first noticed March 13, 2019 by dr.
