SCP:2679 “The Mad Box”

The mad box was discovered in an abandoned ranch in Missoula Montana, MTF right red hand was tasked in retrieving the box which has caused a large number of civilian casualties due to exposure to SCP:2679. Upon inspection of the box further after initial containment, it shows vintage over being held and has apparent marks of attempted destruction of said box. The box itself is a one foot by one foot by one foot rusted steel container with an obsidian locking mechanism, the keys location are currently unknown, however captain joe anderson of MTF right red hand believes that the key is not an anomalous object, but an entirely different entity itself. An interesting theory that has been noted and is currently under investigation. There were twelve casualties upon the containment of SCP:2679 including six foundation agents, two senior researchers, and four D class personnel. The effects of SCP:2679 are attributed to exposure to the box itself, though the most violent reactions occur upon physically interacting with the box. Apparently SCP:2679 had already been known to exist by local residents of Montana, whom were the ones that first notified authorities of the box and its effects. The foundation was clued in by records accessed by Dr. [REDACTED] through the missoula police department. According to the records found, the box has already caused an estimated three hundred twenty six deaths due to exposure to SCP:2679. There are levels to the severity of the symptoms of exposure to SCP:2679 duly recorded via experimentation on D class personnel, the first basic level of exposure is in only five minutes until the victim begins screaming in an apparent fit of ceaseless insanity. Immediate termination is recommended due to the victim becoming abhorrently violent towards anyone or anything within a five meter radius. The second level of exposure was recorded after the restraining of the second D class. After one hour of exposure to SCP:2679 the victim appears to become stagnant until the sixty minute mark is past, thus causing the victim to begin profusely bleeding from several orifices on the body, including bleeding of the eyes, nasal cavity, mouth, ears, [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] based on the victim’s gender. Soon after the bleeding begins, the victim shows inhuman strength attributed to an adrenaline rush that is seemed to be caused by an overstimulation of the chemical balancing in the victim’s brain, leading researchers to believe that the box itself releases some kind of aura of literal insanity. The second subject was immediately terminated after he broke free of his restraints and attacked two guards, fatally wounding one and violently killing the other via severe lacerations to their [REDACTED] region. The third level of exposure to SCP:2679 was achieved via standard containment cell with SCP:2679 and a third D class personnel. After three hours of exposure, the victim is wailing incoherently and sobbing loudly as bodily fluids excrete from their pores, orifices, and from numerous self inflicted wounds sustained after the second hour of exposure. Soon the victim’s vocal chords will be torn and shot from the continuous and strenuous screaming, then leading to the victim showing an immediate display of silence. No sound whatsoever is heard from the victim, including their pulse, breathing, movement of muscle tissue, movement of bone matter, and even the radio waves emitting from their bodily functioning. Thus rendering them absolutely silenced by insanity from SCP:2679. After the initial silencing, the victim begins convulsing harshly and thrashing around in a fit. The victim exhibits resentment towards the box and begin attempting to destroy the box, all attempts seen have been unsuccessful. The victim begins to physically change in height, muscle mass, bone density, fluid composition (a black tar like substance replaces red blood cells) and mental capacity. The fourth level of exposure is after a twelve hour period of consistent exposure to SCP:2679. After the final twelfth hour, the victim has gone completely psychotically motivated to cause as much harm and damage as possible towards others, the victim is believed to have absolutely no amount of control left over their own minds. Leading researchers to evaluate the victims mind to find a new structure replacing the neuron connection in the brain, instead it is replaced with what appears to be a black webbing substance with the consistency of rubber. This is believed to be SCP:2679-1 the product of prolonged exposure to SCP:2679 and becoming in Dr. [REDACTED] words, “an absolute (explicit) psychopathic monstrosity hellbent on the killing and consumption of organic biological life on earth.” due to the resulting product of SCP:2679, the victim was terminated via flooding of the room with a highly flammable gas then the ignition of said gas.
Special containment procedures include: upon a containment breach, a full lockdown of the facility SCP: 2679 is contained in. The room is to be flooded with an extremely flammable gas and then ignited to burn any victims claimed by SCP: 2679. It is to be kept in a five meter by five meter by five meter reinforced steel cell, with heat resistant alloy coating the walls. Level 4 clearance security is required to access SCP:2679 with permission from O5 council. The object class is keter due to its violent nature if left uncontained. An XK end of the world scenario may take place if containment is breached throughout the facility site. Upon this event, SCP personnel are to evacuate and detonate the on site nuclear warhead to destroy SCP:2679.
Upon a full description of SCP:2679 the outside of the box has scribbles and markings, seemingly those of a madman. Yet they are either completely incoherent, or they are well articulated. Both however, seem to be warnings of the box.

When moving SCP:2679 to its containment cell, we had to pass by several other SCP's. However when done so, the SCP's would begin to act erratically as if disturbed by the box, several of the SCP's would often cower back into the corners of their cells, as if they were genuinely afraid of the box. Even SCP: 682 attempted breaching his containment in order to "escape the grasp of that terrible thing" the only time I have ever seen that actual monster, terrified of something. Let alone a box. When we had abel and Cain look at the box, abel went into a sort of emotional distress, cursing and backing away frantically while Cain merely wept silently until slumping to his knees and having to be carried out by agents. I don't really know much about this box and its effects, until reading the files however… and I must say I am duly scared of this thing. O5 council has given permission to Dr. Clef, Dr. Krasinski, Dr. Crow, and Dr. Bright to investigate the box further, yet each of them had come to a similar conclusion after evaluating the box. "If there's a way to destroy it, do it." -Dr. Bright. Even I was concerned about this quote, Dr. Bright is usually so outgoing and positive, but when faced with SCP:2679. He seemed to actually take it seriously. I've yet to witness the fourth level of exposure to SCP:2679 but after reading the overview file from Dr. Bright. I don't think I want to see such a monstrosity born from literal insanity. [End log]
(Dr. Amy Lovejoy has been exposed to SCP:2679 for four minutes, after being secured by foundation agents. She was evaluated for any psychological damage from the box. In conclusion Dr. Amy Lovejoy was deemed safe to continue research of SCP:2679)

[EXPUNGED DATA RECOVERED] The markings discovered on SCP:2679 were mostly incoherent ramblings and phrases, however there are surprisingly articulated warnings etched into the steel container as well. EX:1 This is where sanity comes to die, let my mind be the last victim to its cruelty.
