The New Color (description and containment procedures)

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is not to be moved from its containment chamber stand to prevent further contamination of the facility. Any areas known to be affected by SCP-XXXX are to be clearly highlighted on security cameras. A combination of ultraviolet light, infrared light, and dark matter is to be continuously used on the edge of affected areas to create invisible light, which prevents further contamination of the facility. The lights and DMPD (Dark matter projection device) are to be changed remotely, as to not come in visual contact with SCP-XXXX. All testing of SCP-XXXX is currently on hold until less makeshift containment devices are put in use. Absolutely no one (with the exception of Class 4 or above color blind individuals) is allowed to be within 100 feet of SCP-XXX to prevent accidental visual exposure, as ordered by Doctor White.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a memetic hazard in the form of a painter's palette which appears to contain a “color” not found anywhere else in the world. Red, green, blue, purple and black have all been observed on the palette through security footage, but all test subjects have reported seeing a completely new color as well. This “new color” does not appear on regular security cameras, but does appear on thermal cameras. Any area affected by the color will show to be warm, making these cameras a safe way to remotely monitor SCP-XXXX. Approximately [REDACTED] after a subject has been directly visually exposed to SCP-XXXX, their eyes will go through a series of mutations which usually result in a complete change the subjects visible color spectrum, as discussed further below. In some cases, however, the individuals being tested will go completely blind. This seems to happen more often with older subjects above [REDACTED]. Color blind individuals do not appear to go through these changes after being visually exposed to SCP-XXXX. When asked to provide a description of SCP-XXXX, they always claim it is “too blurry” no matter how close they are to the subject. This is odd, as it was expected that they would not be able to see the color altogether, in a similar fashion to that of regular cameras. This has led scientists to believe that SCP-XXXX is not physically a new color, but rather some type of illusion. This would explain the rather bizarre effects achieved through visual contact with the subject. While these subjects would look at SCP-XXXX, they would not make any form of physical contact, claiming [REDACTED]. The “color” found in SCP-XXXX started spreading at a rate of [REDACTED] after the box containing it was first opened. There is currently no way of removing SCP-XXXX from contaminated areas. It is only possible to contain it within areas it has already contaminated. Attempting the close the box containing the pastel has proved pointless, as SCP-XXXX appears to be able to spread through any existing contaminated areas. SCP-XXXX’s origin is unknown. It was found in a box outside the facility at [REDACTED]. Security camera footage and guard reports are inconclusive as to what was the source of the box’s delivery.
