Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5171 is to be kept within a standard humanoid containment cell in █████████ at Site-19. All instances of SCP-5171-2 are to be extracted by personnel with Level 3 clearance or higher. It is required that these personnel wear infrared goggles during this extraction process. Surveillance equipment is to be placed within the containment cell and monitored at all times. No fewer than one armed guard is required to be stationed at the containment cell of SCP-5171.
Description: SCP-5171 is a 47-year-old caucasian male that is named █████ █████. The subject is roughly 1.75 meters in height. SCP-5171 has dark brown eyes and appears to be balding. The subject is constantly in an unnerved state and mumbles unintelligibly. SCP-5171 is capable of speech and speaks only English. The subject will only do so in a 1 on 1 situation. The subject is slightly cooperative with staff, as it needs to be told several times to do any action. SCP-5171 constantly has a black ballpoint pen (SCP-5171-1) in its right hand, which it uses to write on pieces of paper. This action is done almost constantly and is always done in a rushed manner. SCP-5171 will occasionally stand up from the desk to pace for no more than three minutes before sitting back down to continue writing. The sheets of paper that SCP-5171 uses are standard sheets of printer paper that it pulls out of its breast pocket. How this is done is unknown, as the subject's pockets are always empty. Once SCP-5171 has run out of space to write on the sheets of paper, it will set the paper to the right side of the desk and begin to write on a new sheet of paper. These completed sheets of paper will be referred to as SCP-5171-2.
An instance of SCP-5171-A
SCP-5171-2 instances are sheets of paper that are almost entirely covered in black ink. What exactly these instances have written on them is unknown as it doesn't appear to be in any known language. When an instance of SCP-5171-2 is viewed directly from the naked eye, the viewer will immediately go into a state of distress. These subjects will be referred to as SCP-5171-A. Within a few minutes of viewing SCP-5171-2, SCP-5171-A will begin to constantly hear whispering voices from every direction. SCP-5171-A loses all visibility of other life forms, and Dr. █████ says that there is a high possibility they are actually transported to the █████, rather than losing visibility of life forms. During this time, SCP-5171-A will yell out in clear pain. Most of the phrases that they yell will relate to "wanting it to stop." Soon after, SCP-5171-A will collapse on the floor without any signs of physical trauma.
Discovery: During August of 20██, the SCP foundation was contacted due to an extreme number of reports in █████, Ohio about dead bodies turning up without any signs of clear trauma. MTF Alpha-9 "Last Hope" was dispatched to investigate the situation. Every case was very clearly linked to a 47-year-old man who was unknown to all other residents of the small town. Alpha-9 breached the house in which SCP-5171 lived in, containing him within a transport vehicle restricted by a humanoid containment harness. After containment procedures were followed, a group of three MTF units (Alpha-9-4, Alpha-9-6, and Alpha 9-7) did a sweep of the house, finding many instances of SCP-5171-2. Two of them died in the process. The instances of SCP-5171-2 were later safely retrieved and brought to Site-19 for research purposes.

Effects of SCP-5171-2 Testing
Procedure: D-9504 was ordered to look directly at an instance of SCP-5171-2 to research the effects of this action.
D-9504:
D-9504 looked at an instance of 5171-2 and an immediate increase in heart rate and blood pressure was seen. Within less than ten seconds of looking, the subject's body temperature dropped from 37°C to 32°C. The subject's prefrontal and medial temporal lobe regions of the brain saw an increase in activity, similar to that of schizophrenia patients. It appears that D-9504 was unable to see any life forms immediately after looking at 5171-2, but was able to see everything else. From the few words being shouted that could be understood, it is to our understanding that this is an entirely different dimension. Using a brain implant, the audio in which D-9504 was hearing has been observable. The subject heard many unintelligible whispers from all directions, seeming to drive him into insanity. D-9504 dropped dead roughly three minutes later without any clear signs of trauma.

SCP-5171: There's always a purpose. I won't tell because bad things happen when I tell.
Dr. ████: Interesting. I assume you're going to be secretive about many things but there's no harm in trying. The pen, what makes it so special?
SCP-5171: I was given this pen to write with. I've never been without it but I know terrible things will happen if the pen is gone. I cannot lose the pen. T-this is what… no. I just can't lose it.
Dr. ████: Also noted. I was hoping this interview would last longer, but I don't have any more questions. Thank you for your time, you will be escorted back to your cell shortly.
