Item number: SCP-xxxx
Object class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
Due to SCP-xxxx’s sporadic nature and relativly small manifestation area, treatment is to be carried out by mass use of a class C amnestic and a level X pesticide immediately following every event. The most effective method of distribution has been from injection into fresh water supplies for urban areas and low altitude (>1000M) aerial dispersion over rural areas. Few further precautions are required due to this area’s low population density, low amount of tourism and mild weather. All encountered instances of SCP-xxxx-2 and SCP-xxxx-3 are to be immediately contained for further study. No personnel should interfere with an instance of SCP-xxxx-2 when it has located a target or is attempting to consume it.
Description
SCP-xxxx is a temporary EC-class scenario that manifests for 1 week in the █████ █████████ of ████████. Its occurrence is sporadic and no current studies to date have found any correlation with any other phenomena.
The events that manifest as SCP-xxxx’s typically follow a specific pattern. Although this did variate slightly on one occasion. (See addendum)
The pattern which occurs has been shown to follow this sequence:
1. A large sinkhole or pit, hereafter referred to as SCP-xxxx-1, with a diameter of approximately. 100m opens. This is usually in one of the few urban areas of this region. However several instances have occurred in rural locations most notably the ████████ bay local.
2. Within 6 hours of SCP-xxxx-1 opening, usually during dusk or just after, SCP-xxxx-1 invariably fills with a blue liquid. This was first thought to be arachnid blood, but was later found upon sampling to be a mix of what would be normally considered toxic chemical waste with a highly variable composition of corrosive, neurotoxic, carcinogenic agents. All sampling of the liquid to date has shown that the temperature in the pool exceeds the boiling point for most chemicals within.
3. After a short period of time, ranging from two hours to mere seconds, several hundred thousand to possibly millions of Arachnids, hereafter referred to as SCP-xxxx-2, emerge from SCP-xxxx-1’s pool. Typically the instances of SCP-xxxx-2 are primarily Solifugids, Uropygids, Amblypygids and Tarantulas.1.
Arachnids that emerge from scp-xxxx-1 are typically 50-100% larger than their non anomalous counterparts. Every specimen captured to date has been shown to posses no glands for venom or sedative of any form but has an unsupressable aggression.
4. Instances of SCP-xxxx-2 will immediately group into packs of five to ten individuals of highly varying makeup and begin to chase the nearest quadruped. Speeds of up to 53.9km/h have been recorded when the instances are in full pursuit of a target. With some instances of SCP-xxxx-2 traveling for 3 days non stop in a direct path to the nearest selected target. It is unknown by what mechanism they track the nearest viable target and no two packs have ever selected the same target.
5. Instances of SCP-xxxx-2 will begin to swarm around the intended target, typically a dog, cat or similarly sized animal2.
After completely surrounding the target, instances of SCP-xxxx-2 will then begin to fling themselves onto the victim and begin to tear away its skin and tissue in a similar manner to ants harvesting a insect corpse. Usually the victim is completely overwhelmed with instances of SCP-xxxx-2 within several seconds. The instances consume the victim live and fully conscious.
6. After intense feeding for several minutes there is little left of the victim. Several instances of SCP-xxxx-2 will begin to use silk webbing to piece together the skin of the victim, usually with remarkable results. Despite normal instances of several species not having spinnerets they will produce silk.
After reconstruction of the skin into one piece several instances of SCP-xxx-2 will crawl inside the skin via an orifice such as the mouth or rectum. The instances of SCP-xxxx-2 will then begin to mimic the victim that was just consumed. This includes all forms of audible noise, and behaviors. Hereafter the subject is referred to as SCP-xxxx-3.
8. After 1 week of activity SCP-xxxx-1 will drain and leave a large sinkhole behind. All activity at the rim of SCP-xxxx-1 will cease, but audio recordings via drone show that there is still activity occurring just below the visual level. At this time all instances of SCP-xxxx-2 that have not consumed and or possessed a target will return to scp-xxxx-1 and descend its walls. After all remaining instances of SCP-xxxx-2 are returned, the sinkhole will close and leave behind heavily disturbed ground. Usually in the form of a pothole.
9. Instances of SCP-xxxx-3 will continue to act as if they were the previously consumed victim. Usually with little to no noticeable difference. It has been shown to be nearly impossible to tell a SCP-xxxx-3 instance from the original. Even when methods such as MRI and X-rays are used to observe the internal structure.
Addendum:
On the 20th of january 1949, SCP-xxxx manifested itself at the edge of the █████████ near ████████ point. This was the 2nd recorded event in that year. It proceeded to deviate from the normal sequence of events. Instances of SCP-xxxx-2 began to attack humans as well as their normal victims. Prompting nearby tasks forces to immediately respond by disabling all communications with the region and blocking all roads and exits with a perimeter control. After 1 week, several MTF units specializing in the mass extermination of SCP affected civilians were sent into the region. With instructions to terminate all instances of SCP-xxxx-3 in the region. They were completely successful, no Task Force members sustained any significant injury. However, SCP-xxxx would continue to manifest itself in its normal fashion 27 more times that year, the highest year of activity recorded. It is unknown what caused this spike of activity and the deviation from the normal event pattern.
