SCP-XXXX - The Skull and the Diadem

SCP-XXXX is a human skull, dated back to the late second century. Found in █ , England in 20█ during an excavation for a building site. Reports indicated that those who came into contact with SCP-XXXX for extended periods of time suffered from nausea, shortness of breath, constricted airways and, on occasions, vomiting. Those who suffered from vomiting stated that they vomited a brown liquid. This was tested and found to be contaminated water. The hypothesis of the time was that this liquid might be pond water. Further testing found a match with a nearby water source. It is still unknown how this is possible.

Judging by contours of the facial structure and jaw of SCP-XXXX, it is probable to assume the skull belonged to a woman. The back of the skull has a large hole. It appears to have been created by blunt force trauma. This may have been the cause of death. No other remains were found with SCP-XXXX except for SCP-XXXX-1, an iron diadem. SCP-XXXX-1 has several markings engraved into the metal. Most of them have been connected to the runic alphabet that was present at that time. Yet, there are still some engravings that are untranslatable.

Attempts have been made to separate SCP-XXXX-1 from SCP-XXXX, as the iron and bone had fused together. The bond between the two objects was unnaturally strong. A diamond edged rotary cutter was brought in, however no progress was made with it. The two were finally separated after using a laser cutter by █. Once apart it was noted that there was a strong smell of sulphur emanating from SCP-XXXX. Also documented was abrasions appeared on █’s neck and arms. These were areas where his skin was uncovered during the separation. 2 minutes after the separation of SCP-XXXX, █ suffered a heart attack. Autopsy report of █ found an unrecognisable substance in his bloodstream. The correlation between the two events is still disputed, though it should be known that it is still on record as a coincidence.

SCP-XXXX-1 now emits high levels of gamma radiation and should not be approached without the required PPE. No reading has been made with a Geiger counter as of yet, since every attempt has led to the machine breaking when in the same room as SCP-XXXX-1. Any electrical equipment in the same room as SCP-XXXX-1 has also short circuited. This was the case with several lightbulbs blowing as soon as SCP-XXXX-1 was removed from its container. Computers in the room have had their circuit boards melted from being in the same vicinity.

Addendum: Do not remove SCP-XXXX from SCP-XXXX-1 under any circumstance. The two must remain in the same room at all times. █ removed SCP-XXXX for further testing and on the way suffered auditory and visual hallucinations. According to █ , these hallucinations were of a drowned woman with an iron crown. She appeared screaming and walking towards █. The hallucinations only stopped when SCP-XXXX was returned to SCP-XXXX-1. 13 test subjects have been subjected to these hallucinations for further testing. Each one have said the same thing of a woman with an iron crown, screaming at them. Subject 7 (D-32159) lasted the longest with the hallucinations, having kept the objects separated for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. During that time, D-32159 also noted that the smell of sulphur returned around the 1 minute mark, and the screaming turned into chanting a few seconds after that. No subject has lasted long enough to tell what happens when the figure finally reaches them.
