Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX are to be contained in a 8 X 8 X 8 X 12 meter sound proof enclosure with remotely triggered speakers fitted on each wall to incapacitate the entity in the event of a containment breach. All personnel tasked with interacting with an SCP-XXXX are required to carry handheld high frequency noise emitting devices similar to canine training equipment in order to prevent SCP-XXXX from being able to locate said individual should the creature become aggressive.
SCP-XXXX is to be fed one live goat every two days and simultaneously have the remains of the previous animal removed and discarded each time SCP-XXXX is fed. This is due to SCP-XXXX displaying refusal or inability to consume the bone matter of its prey. Other farm animals are acceptable.
Interactions between two or more SCP-XXXX are not permitted in order to deny them the ability to breed and cause a potential infestation event of SCP-XXXX-1B.
Description: SCP-XXXX (now named Chiropterus Abnormanaeus) are large predators of an unknown origin and unconfirmed genus but have been officially classified as a genus of bat. Instances of SCP-XXXX measure an average of 1.5 meters high, 2 meters long and weigh an estimated 280lbs, however the size has been known to vary between different instances of SCP-XXXX very slightly, this is presumed to be a form of sexual dimorphism. SCP-XXXX possess a dominant pair of 1 meter long forearms that end in dual fingered hands, which it walks on the knuckles of in a quadrupedal hunchbacked manner similar to that of a great ape. The hindlegs of SCP-XXXX are double jointed with a second knee joint that bends in the opposite direction of the dominant knee and sits just above the ankles. The heads of SCP-XXXX possess several characteristics similar to that of most bats; including a large nose with three nostrils, a pair of highly sensitive ears and a pair of small sunken black eyes. SCP-XXXX has grey, leathery skin similar to that of an elephant or rhinoceros.
SCP-XXXX are almost entirely blind and rely on a form of advanced echolocation and sonar to navigate their surroundings.
The spines of SPC-XXXX are built in a curved manner, forming a large hunch on their backs with the spine visibly pushing against the skin of xxxx in a manner similar to that of animals with severe malnutrition.
SCP-XXXX produce live young, with an average gestation period of seven weeks. Litter sizes vary between three and six young, referred to as SCP-XXXX-2A.
SCP-XXXX will construct dens and nests out of almost any material available. Examples include: Wood, plants, burrows, littered fabric and cardboard.
The young are almost entirely helpless and dependent on their parents for the first two weeks of their life, they lack all senses other than touch and smell but are equipped with strong jaws that are capable of consuming meat brought to them by their mother.
SCP-XXXX are matriarchal in nature, instead of producing milk, the mother will leave the nest/den to hunt whilst the male remains to protect the young.
SCP-XXXX appear nocturnal, rarely leaving their established homes before nightfall. This behaviour is presumably due to their poor eyesight and the lack of noise present when compared to a diurnal surrounding, allowing SCP-XXXX to home in on sounds more precisely via echolocation.
Addendum XXXX-01: Discovery and Capture:
SCP-XXXX was first discovered on 03/07/2007, England, in the Forest of Dean during a ground search for 7 year old Joseph Connors, who was reported missing on 01/07/2007 by parents ████ and ██████.
There had been three previous search parties for three separate missing children prior to XXXX’s discovery:
9 year old ███ shepherd (Last seen alive 1.3 miles from Forest of Dean on 18/06/2007)
6 year old ███ Maynard (Last seen alive 1.7 miles from Forest of Dean on 23/06/2007)
13 year old ██ Bolton (Last seen alive 2.2 miles from Forest of Dean on 29/06/2007)
SCP-XXXX was discovered by search party member, Eric Mathers, when searching an abandoned residence deep in the forest, built at an unknown period of time (though analysis revealed the structure to date back a minimum of 20 years). Inside, Mathers discovered three mutilated bodies. After being investigated by forensics, the bodies have been officially declared to be three of the four missing children. Mathers proceeded to search deeper into the residence where he discovered XXXX in the process of consuming the deceased Joseph Connors. Mathers succeeded in escaping SCP-XXXX and was then taken into custody by the foundation for interviewing and psychoanalysis, Mathers was then administered Class-B amnestics, and was returned home with a cover story for his memory loss being the result of ingesting heavy amounts of alcohol and then passing out for 50+ hours.
Containment Attempt-XXXX-01: 03/07/2007
At 15:30; Mobile Task Force Delta-12 consisting of thirteen personnel & led by Capt.Tom Ryan, was dispatched to engage & capture SCP-XXXX and recover the bodies of the four victims.
When engaged, SCP-XXXX became extremely hostile. Three personnel were lost in action. Delta-12 was ordered to salvage the childrens’ bodies and retreat from the residence, SCP-XXXX did not pursue.
MISSION REPORT
- Pvt.Leek: Deceased (K.I.A)
- Lt.Wakefield: Deceased (K.I.A)
- Sgt.Lester: Deceased (K.I.A)
Containment: Unattained.
Containment Attempt-XXXX-02: 04/07/2007
At 03:22; Delta-12 was sent back to the discovery site to contain SCP-XXXX. Capt.Ryan and seven other personnel entered the residence, whilst two others; Felton and Smithers, were stationed outside and tasked with setting up a perimeter around the discovery site.
When inside the residence, personnel were able to conduct a full sweep of the building before coming to the conclusion that SCP-XXXX was no longer inside. Thirty seconds later, Smithers’ vitals flatlined and sounds of distress came from Felton’s radio accompanied by audible gunshots coming from outside.
The team was quick to exit the building and search for Smithers and Felton. Eight seconds passed before a second round of ammunition was fired, the team were able to locate Felton, who was being assaulted by XXXX. Smithers’ body was found 2 meters from SCP-XXXX. Capt.Ryan attempted to incapacitate SCP-XXXX via gunfire but the entity was able to outmanoeuvre most of the rounds, only landing two non fatal blows to the left shoulder and left hind leg of SCP-XXXX. Ryan was quickly overpowered by XXXX and taken deep into the forest before personnel could react in time to save him. Mission was declared a failure and personnel were ordered to retrieve Smithers’ body and prepare Felton for medical evacuation.
MISSION REPORT
- Lt.Smithers: Deceased (K.I.A)
- Capt.Ryan: M.I.A (Presumed Deceased)
Containment: Unattained.
SCP-XXXX in the process of dragging Capt.Ryan into the forest
Containment Attempt-XXXX-03: 05/07/2007
At 05:10; Delta-12, now under command of Sgt.Rhodes, was once again sent back to SCP-XXXX’s discovery site to contain SCP-XXXX by any means necessary. Three personnel were sent inside for an area sweep whilst the remaining four were positioned outside, one at each wall of the residence to prevent an ambush, should the entity be outside again. When searching the building, five instances of SCP-XXXX-2A were discovered in a wooden crate containing ripped up clothing in the corner of the living room. Personnel successfully contained the five offspring before being engaged by the father, SCP-XXXX-1B. SCP-XXXX-1B was terminated in the ensuing firefight.
Outside the building, the four personnel were engaged by the mother, SCP-XXXX-1A, by which two personnel were killed before being successfully tranquilised and prepped for transport to Site-84.
When transported to Site-84, SCP-XXXX was placed into a sound proof enclosure to render its echolocation redundant and unable to breach containment.
MISSION REPORT
- Pvt.Daniels: Deceased (K.I.A)
- Lt. Charlesworth: Deceased (K.I.A)
Containment: Attained
Addendum XXXX-02: Bat DNA:
DNA tests returned with a positive 60% of the creature’s genome being nearly identical to modern day vampire bats, however the remaining 40% does not fit any fauna in the records.
SCP-XXXX is currently under a cold case debate regarding whether or not it should still be classed as an anomaly or as a newly discovered species by the 05 Council.
The case has not been revisited since 10/04/2010.
