Doctor William Chambers in his car, the cold air from the vents filling it. He reached into the console of the car, pulling out a rectangular carton with the words 'MARLBORO' across it in big, bold lettering. He pulled a cigarette out, holding it in his lips as he fumbled with the lighter. He had never been a smoker, but he heard it helps with anxiety, which he was plentiful in at the moment. He clicked the lighter, only sparks. Again, only sparks. Thrice more. Only. Sparks.
"MOTHER FUC-" he exclaimed, only being cut off by his own car horn. He looked up. Everyone around him was staring into his car. As he made eye contact with each of them, they all walked away, mothers rushing their children away and teens jogging. He sighed, looking out the window at the stone building. Chambers opened his car door, stepping out. His polished dress shoes clicked on the asphalt, and his neatly pressed pant legs swished together. He adjusted his tie, approaching the door. He pushed through the first, an odd smell hitting him. The entire building smelled stale and stagnant, as if the air had been paused in time. He reached the desk, the young lady looking up from the her screen.
"Name?" she asked in a monotone, emotionless voice. Chambers mumbled something in return.
"Say that again sir, I need to know"
"Will Chambers" He responded in a quiet tone. She looked at him with judgmental eyes.
"Down the hall, room 3A" She said, pointing down a narrow hallway. 3A was at the very first, with an overhead light seeming to highlight it. He moved quick down the hall, avoiding looking at everyone he passed. He could hear them talking, but heard no individual words. He saw people point, but saw not where they point. All eyes on you, Will he thought to himself. He picked up speed, practically shouldering through the door into the room. The room was empty, save for the large wooden box in the middle and the sign next to it, which he didn't bother to read. He looked at the box, thinking of its contents. And so he began to remember
