Card Declined
The man removed his card from the machine once again as the cashier simply glared at him.
"I'm sorry." The man said. "This was working when I got coffee just a few minutes ago." The Cashier said nothing as the man swiped his card one more time.
"No… this should be working." The cashier continued saying nothing even as a few angry voices arose from the now very long line behind the check out lane. The man at the register barely seemed to notice as he continued with his card. The cashier looked out the glass front doors towards the cool night lit by Chicago's neon lights and passing cars. Unfortunately he still had just under an hour left in his shift so he couldn't actually leave into the night yet. The manager walked over and started talking to the man as someone in the long line began yelling, so the cashier stepped away from the cash register. At least the incident gave him a few minutes to… to his surprise he saw the sports game being played on the demo TVs nearer to the back of the store disappeared to be replaced with a nearly black screen containing only white text. Surprised, the cashier took several steps in the direction. A few customers seemed to notice to, but most of them were more focused on the long line and the red 'card declined' flashing on the cash register. The cashier stepped towards the screens which showed one frozen image, and curiosity gave way to fear as he saw at the top of the monitors the dreaded three arrow symbol of the SCP Foundation. The cashier put on his Streamliner costume, the white suit and bicycle helmet appearing on him instantly as he used his Reality Bending powers. No one in the store noticed. The Streamliner took several cautious steps towards the TV sets and looked around nervously.

Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Apollyon
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX cannot be contained.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a phenomenon caused by the Foundation and related Groups of Interest's overuse of Anomalous Technology. SCP-XXXX is an effect which will cause a ZK-Class 'Reality Failure' Event after the amount of Anomalous Technology surpasses an unknown critical point. While the full mechanics behind this phenomenon are complex and poorly understood, it can be understood metaphorically using the example of a beam experiencing stresses. As Foundation scientists have known since the 1950s, the physical laws of the universe are not static but can be changed by certain events. Anomalous Technology and most anomalies exploit this phenomenon to use 'loopholes' in the laws of physics to allow them to function outside of normal laws. All anomalous technology stresses reality by creating regions or events where the standard rules of reality do not apply. Like a beam under stress, as long as the total amount of stress is below a certain point the beam can continue indefinitely, but if the stress becomes too high than the beam will gradually start to experience damage. Adding more stress causes more damage as the beam cannot hold as much maximum stress as it originally could. Once the stress exits the yielding limit the beam breaks apart. Similarly, once enough anomalous technology has been added to the earth the structure of reality will become unstable. Eventually it will break entirely destroying or fundamentally transforming the entire world. The effect on the rest of the universe is unclear but based on current models will either be the earth collapsing into a singularity forming a black hole or the damaged reality propagating outward in a manner analogous to Vacuum Decay, creating a bubble that propagates at the speed of light and alters the properties of the universe on a fundamental level. Just as ductile materials will start to experience deformations before yielding entirely, models indicate that before the ZK event their will be a period where the world will begin to experience unpredictable anomalous phenomenon at a rapid rate. This event should theoretically give the Foundation and GOC advanced warning to evacuate humanity through any available means. Removing Anomalous Technology does not repair the damage that has already been dealt to the universe, the current limit to how much anomalous technology can exist on the planet without causing Reality Failure is unknown.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Site-199 has been created to monitor SCP-XXXX. Under no circumstance is any living individual to enter SCP-XXXX. The cave containing SCP-XXXX is to be closed to the public and the entrance to it is to be blockaded and guarded at all times. The cave leading to SCP-XXXX is to be blocked with a wall and a door with 'Isaac Wilson' written on it.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a cave system located in BLACKBOX, Michigan. Their is a single tunnel leading to SCP-XXXX from an entrance in the BLACKBOX mountain. After 0.3 km, the tunnel enters a region where electromagnetic waves of any sort can not transmit. Visually this region appears as a wall of darkness blocking sight into the deeper levels of the cavern. Any electromagnetic wave that enter SCP-XXXX is destroyed, breaking energy conversation. This renders visual sight and most forms of electronic communication impossible inside SCP-XXXX. However, living organisms can enter SCP-XXXX without ill effect.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is self-containing. This document is to have digital and hardcopy backups created and stored in as many locations as possible.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a phenomenon that has caused the belief that Abraham Lincoln was a 19th century US President and liberator instead of an immense extradimensional hostile spider-like organism as it is known to have been in actual history. Their were no known anomalies effecting first-hand information about Abraham Lincoln (SCP-XXXX-1), individuals who saw it were aware of its nature as an extraterrestrial arthropod. However, second hand information of SCP-XXXX-1 was subject to powerful informational entropy causing it to generally fail to properly describe SCP-XXXX-1. This effect persists to the present time though it has notably weakened.
Despite it's inherently hostile nature, SCP-XXXX-1 was a major cause for the destruction of the institution of slavery in America. SCP-XXX-1 consuming an estimated 60% of American plantation owners made it much more politically viable to eliminate slavery.
Dr. Bright took a deep breath and steadied himself. Then he stepped out the door for his nightly walk. He took a deep breath enjoying the cold air of early winter and. His cell phone went off. Bright pulled it out of his pocket and frowned. When he saw who had sent the message he snarled. He tossed the phone behind him so that it landed on a chair in his living room and closed the door. He looked over his shoulder and then began walking down the street.
…
Like most disasters it started with an extremely small thing. A crack in reality formed just over a grassy patch next to a weathered old tree. The crack floated for several moments glowing with a horrible light until it began to widen. The gap widened like a tear in fabric and on the other side was darkness. The darkness ripped its way out of the gap and began to take shape, converting itself into matter. Fire blazed around it setting the tree and grass ablaze as a figure formed in the center. The crack snapped shut, its purpose complete, as the new arrival in the universe took his first burning breath in several thousand years. He blinked a few times.
"Oh it's the multiverse!" he said "I'm back!" He looked around, taking in a few glimpses of reality. His immediate surroundings were on fire but most of the area around them was intact and still blooming bright green.
"Amazing, it's been too long already." Nearby a few humans, yes he recognized that species, were gathering, clearly wondering what was happening. Willing the fire to go out, the newcomer quickly created a disguise for himself and started making his way down the hill as the flames sputtered out in a moment.

Subject: Senior Researcher [error] and SCP-5616
[BEGIN LOG]
[error]: Thank you for coming in today, I know you had to take some time out of your schedule to make it here today. Let's cut right to the chase, what are we going to do about [ERR]?
[error]: I had expected as much but it's good to hear your own viewpoint on it. You… you sure there isn't any other way we can help them?
[error]: I understand, but it still seems so… so…
[error]: I suppose you're right. Mind if I break the news to them before you begin?
SCP-5616: Loud pained screaming
[error] nods.
[error]: Thank you, for coming here today. I hate to say it but I do think you're right and this is for the best. Do you want anything to drink before you leave?
[error]: Coffee it is then.
[END LOG]
[REDACTED]SCP-5616: Loud pained screaming.
SCP-5616 is currently heading towards you and will reach you sometime by the end of the day if not sooner. It is even possible that SCP-5616 has already found you though this is somewhat unlikely. We are fully aware of what will occur when SCP-5616 finds you and know that there is no reason for you to be alarmed as it is for your own good despite what you may feel. What is about to happen must not be averted or stopped as doing so would have unacceptable negative consequences for you and make your present situation even worse.
Discovery: SCP-5616 was first noticed next to [UNKNOWN] on [REDACTED] shortly after [DATA EXPUNGED] and [DATA LOST] following your formal leave from the [DATA MISSING] Research Project. SCP-5616 was captured by MTF Aleph-[REDACTED] and taken to Site-██ where it was briefly held before it breached containment and began heading towards you. The Foundation would like to formally apologize to SCP-5616 for this, we didn't know what we do now.
Interview Log 5616-1
Forward: On ██/██/████ your friend Junior Researcher [DATA CORRUPTED] went to discuss your situation with the Mental Health Services department at Site-██.
Subject: Junior Researcher [DATA CORRUPTED] and Site Psychologist [DATA MISSING]
[BEGIN LOG]:
[DATA CORRUPTED]: Hello, thanks for letting me come meet you. I'm here to talk about [error].
[DATA CORRUPTED]: You see, the two of us have been working on the [REDACTED] Research Project for awhile now… well… we had been. That's the problem. They left the project and turned in their resignation last night. They didn't tell me anything before leaving, but I assume it's about… well…
[DATA MISSING] is at his laptop. He is writing the SCiPnet entry for SCP-5616. He does not acknowledge her.
[DATA CORRUPTED]: I was wondering if their was anything you knew about the situation. I think [error] has been coming here over the last few months.
[DATA MISSING] keeps typing.
[DATA CORRUPTED]: I was… honestly hoping you could tell me a little of what's going on… assuming that you're allowed to tell me of course. [error] and I well… I've gone through some of the same stuff as they are going through and… I don't know if I know what it's like but… I want to help if I can.
[DATA MISSING ] keeps typing.
[DATA CORRUPTED]]: It's just that I… I'm honestly pretty worried for them especially after what happened.
[DATA MISSING] keeps typing, [DATA CORRUPTED]] realizes that [DATA MISSING] is really SCP-5616 in disguise.
[DATA CORRUPTED]: Oh! I'm sorry five-six-one-six, I didn't recognize you like that.
[SCP-5616]: Loud pained screaming.
Following this incident, [DATA CORRUPTED] told her and your mutual friend [DATA LOST] about her concerns. [DATA LOST] decided to interview SCP-5616 himself with the aid of the Site-██ research team while it was still contained at the site.
Test Log
SCP-5616 is kept in a standard humanoid containment unit surrounded by thirteen Scranton Reality Anchors. The sound of sobbing begins emanating from the unit. Several small, six-fingered hand-prints can be seen on the glass window.
[DATA LOST]: What is happening with [error]? Why did they leave the research project? I tried to ask them but they wouldn't tell me.
[DATA LOST]: Is… is something wrong? Are they okay? They seemed a little off the last time I saw them but I didn't think anything was really wrong until I spoke with [DATA CORRUPTED].
[DATA LOST]: You… you can be honest with me. I know you know because you were the last person they talked to. They're… we're good friends. We've been working together for… for as long as I can remember. If… if they need help I'd like to know. So… I know they probably don't want anyone to talk about it but… Could you?
[DATA LOST]: Come on… you can tell me. Please?
Site-██'s research team begins torturing SCP-5616. The sound of sobbing stops.
[DATA LOST]: Come on… I know they've been… not feeling well ever since they left Site-██, but I didn't think anything was really wrong. Please tell me. Whatever's going on I can handle it.
The Reality Anchors begin failing one by one. [DATA LOST] doesn't notice. [DATA LOST] and the rest of the Site-██ Research Team begin to melt. [DATA LOST] does not notice.
[DATA LOST]: Please…
Site-██ dissolves. All personnel at the site die. SCP-5616 continues looking for you.
[DATA LOST]: Fine, be that way.
SCP-5616: Load pained screaming.

After you failed to respond to several emails from [DATA LOST] and [DATA CORRUPTED], Site Director [ERR] contacted SCP-5616 in order to come to a final conclusion on what must be done to help you with your situation.
Video Log 5616-1:
Subject: SCP-5616 and Site Director [ERR]2.
Foreword: The Site Director met with SCP-5616 in the Site-██ conference room in order to discuss the next steps for you.
[ERR]: Good to see you again, I saw your work on the SCP-5616 entry and I must say you did a great job SCP-5616. I'm glad to have someone like you working on this.
SCP-5616: …
[ERR]: Anyway, let's get right to the point. They showed me your proposal it's… it's pretty interesting. Usually when something like this happens we give them therapy or mental health evaluations or payed vacation time but your proposal… I think there might be something to it.
SCP-5616: …
[ERR]: I feel pretty bad for them especially with how excited they were before… before it happened. No one should go through something like that.
SCP-5616: …
[ERR]: I… I think I'm going to give you the go ahead. I know they won't like it but given what's been happening with them I really don't see that we have any choice. It's really the last thing we can do if we want them to stay at the Foundation. And after Site-██ shut down we need all the help we can get. I just want to call them first and make sure They know what's going on before you begin.3
SCP-5616: …
[ERR]: Hopefully they will be okay. I couldn't even imagine if that happened to me. I mean, just thinking of my… of my own…
[ERR] shakes his head.
[ERR]: We'll do what we can, it's the least we can do after the work they've done in the Foundation's [REDACTED] division.4
SCP-5616: …[ERR]: Thank you for your service [COGNITOHAZARD REDACTED], if this goes well I could see a possible promotion in your future and maybe even more than that. Please continue the good work and call me if you need anything else.
SCP-5616 smiles.
[ERR]: Loud pained screaming.

Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be held in a standard humanoid containment cell.
Description: SCP-XXXX is BLACKBOX, a 37 year old caucasian man from BLACKBOX Minnesota. SCP-XXXX is currently sitting in a cushioned chair (SCP-XXXX-1) and unable to leave it.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Because of it's self-containing nature no specific containment procedures are necessary for SCP-XXXX. Foundation webcrawlers are to monitor websites for video evidence of SCP-XXXX and record and remove any that is found.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a phenomenon effecting individuals attending funerals. SCP-XXXX can occur at any funeral in which a body is buried in a coffin though it is exceedingly rare occurring in only an estimated 1 in 130,000,000 cases. An SCP-XXXX event begins at the time when the coffin carrying the deceased (SCP-XXXX-A) is being lowered into the ground. When this occurs, one individual at the funeral who had a close connection to the SCP-XXXX-A instance will become a SCP-XXXX-B instance. Before the coffin can be lowered all individuals present except the SCP-XXXX-B instance will pause, entering a trance like state in which they will not respond to any stimulus. The SCP-XXXX-B instance will then hear a voice from an unknown source offering them the opportunity to switch places with the deceased. If the SCP-XXXX-B instance accepts, the coffin will open without outside interference allowing them to remove the SCP-XXXX-A instance and enter the coffin with it closing behind them. After this the SCP-XXXX-A instance will revive and the memories of all associated individuals, including the SCP-XXXX-A instance will be altered so that they remember that the SCP-XXXX-B instance was always the individual who had died. No actual reality or history altering effects will take place however. Upon reviving, the SCP-XXXX-A instances do not display any atypical behavior or properties. SCP-XXXX events can be recorded, however any individual not under the effect of mnestic6 drugs will be unable to properly see the events and will instead interpret the video as being a funeral for the SCP-XXXX-B instance.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered by a combination of AIC7 monitoring and the testimony of Joshua [REDACTED], a SCP-XXXX-B instance. Several of Joshua's posts on social media sites were flagged by AiC as containing possible anomalous phenomenon and he was brought in for questioning. After Joshua described the event, several AICs were assigned to look through obituaries, medical files and related records for evidence of SCP-XXXX. After several months of research, the AICs were able to find evidence of individuals dying but later being reported alive. No living humans had noticed these discrepancies, it's unclear whether this is a result of SCP-XXXX's anomaly or simply the rarity of the phenomenon. Currently evidence of sixteen possible SCP-XXXXX events has been collected along with video confirmation of two events. As Joshua is the only living SCP-XXXX-B instance ever found, it is believed that the majority of instances accept the offer.

Special Containment Procedures: Once every three weeks a D-Class personnel is to be sent to SCP-XXXX. After answering the question, the current Project Head is to decide whether to allow them to leave SCP-XXXX or force them to stay.
Description: SCP-XXXX is the basement of a farmhouse in BLACKBOX, Washington. Every surface in SCP-XXXX except the stairs leading down to it has been turned into black glass. Once every three weeks if an individual is inside SCP-XXXX they will hear a question being asked by a female voice. Following this, the individual must answer the question and leave within three minutes. If the individual answers the question but does not leave they will be converted to black glass and absorbed by the walls of SCP-XXXX. If the individual leaves without answering the question, after three minutes they will be spatially displaced into SCP-XXXX where they will turn to black glass and be absorbed by the walls and floor of SCP-XXXX over three weeks.
In addition, many other anomalous properties have been noted in the Continental US that are believed to be linked to SCP-XXXX. It is further believed that whether or not an individual is absorbed following a question somehow relates to these events..
