Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a standard holding cell, measuring 10m x 4m x 10m with a plexiglass holding chamber measuring 0.5m x 0.5m x 0.5m inside it at Site-17
Any other self-duplicated instances of SCP-XXXX-1 that are somehow outside of the plexiglass chamber should be incinerated immediately by guards wearing seamless suits.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a small wood splinter, measuring about 2cm x 1cm x 0.4cm, that originates from a decaying building located in the municipality of ████████, Ontario. When observed microscopically, 25 black punctures along each side of it were noticed, in no discernible pattern.
A key behaviour of SCP-XXXX is its ability to duplicate itself when approached by any humanoid entity, then attach the smaller copies of itself, SCP-XXXX-1, to the scalp of entity who disturbed it, causing extreme paranoia and the compulsion to vigorously scratch their scalp.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are somehow able to levitate, and once there is multiple instances of it, they swarm in a buzzing mass around the head of the victim until attached to the scalp.
The first instance of this happening was on ██/██/20██, when a resident of the town named J██████ D█████ was reported missing in a call to the police department by one of his family members at 10:43 PM, after being missing for 12 hours, since approximately 10:00 AM.
J██████'s cellphone GPS was tracked to his location, a structurally deteriorated house. When found, J██████ was in one of the rooms of the house, cowering in a corner.
His scalp was bloodied and scratched, along with some rusty nails that had been used out of sheer insanity to stop the itching the SCP-XXXX-1 instances caused him. His hair could be seen strewn around him on the floor, mixed with blood and [REDACTED]. The cause of his death was determined to be a mix of dehydration, hypothermia, and blood loss. Autopsies showed that he had died two hours prior to the Foundation finding his location. When the victim's scalp was observed microscopically, it appeared that through the large scratch marks in his scalp, many instances of SCP-XXXX-1 had burrowed into them and entered a dormant state, presumed to be growing into another instance of SCP-XXXX to spread the species. SCP-XXXX was successfully acquired into foundation custody shortly after the discovery of J██████ D█████'s corpse.
The family members involved were all administered Class-B amnestics, and a cover story that J██████ had fallen into a ravine and suffered brain trauma is maintained.

Testing has been strictly forbidden until more research on SCP-XXXX can be conducted, to prevent a possible containment breach. Examination of SCP-XXXX from inside its holding cell is allowed to personnel with Level 3 security clearance or higher. Any individuals who enter the cell must wear the seamless suits mentioned in the Special Containment Procedures section.
