Item #: SCP-4581
Object Class: Safe Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: A 15-km no-fly and no-sailing zone has been established based around the island where SCP-4581 is located, under the pretense that it is a United States military base hosting elements of the Air Force and the Fourth Fleet for testing experimental technology. To this extent all intruding aircraft and ships are to be contacted and redirected upon unauthorized entry into the restricted zone, and interdiction and amnesticization may be used to prevent any unauthorized craft from reaching SCP-4581. The island around SCP-45811 has been designated Provisional Site-581 and currently serves as a base of operations for Mobile Task Force Lambda-3 “Ellis Captains”. Additionally, Foundation plants within governmental space agencies are to prevent satellite imagery of SCP-4581 from being taken and expunge internal records of any gamma-ray-burst events or other high-intensity radiation pulses caused by activations of SCP-4581.
Provisional Site-581 staff are to refrain from interacting with instances of SCP-4581-1 when not operating the device. Following the events detailed in Recovery Log 4581-Beta, contact has been established with a race of synthetic constructs designated here as SCP-4581-2, using the 4581 Contact Group as the focus for communications. Information exchange between parties is authorized on a case-by-case basis by the O5 Council. When SCP-4581-2 are present at Provisional Site-581, the Site wireless network is to be shut down, the Site is to be isolated from the main database, and all terminals are to be locked behind a triple firewall and only given access via landline connections.
Description: SCP-4581 is a collective designation for several anomalous objects making up a larger device of unknown purpose that acts as a faster-than-light transportation system between itself and several matching devices on a minimum of 4 extrasolar planets.
SCP-4581-A is a metallic construct composed primarily of a silicon-steel alloy, beryllium bronze, and [REDACTED]. It consists of two 1.3-meter-thick perpendicularly-intersecting vertical rings 12.1 meters in diameter. A 1.1-meter-wide gap exists at the top of the two rings, where a 5-meter-tall prong extends upward from each ring. Each prong is linked to the others by a number of superconducting rings, powerful magnets, and miniaturized cyclotrons. SCP-4581-A houses numerous electronic components beneath the outer shell, with 95% of them being currently beyond the ability of modern science to understand or replicate. The 5% of components that are understood indicate that SCP-4581-A is used to focus and harness the energies of SCP-4581-C. The assembly is located within a circular excavation 33 meters into the ground, accessible through tunnels leading from SCP-4581-D.
SCP-4581-B is a perfect globe, 2.2 meters in diameter, made of an unknown substance with a refractive index and resonance frequency identical to that of diamond but possessing anomalous durability, corrosion resistance, and extremely low thermal conductivity. It is located within the exact center of SCP-4581-A’s ring, held in place by thin metallic struts linking it to the middle of each semi-ring and the bottom of SCP-4581-A. SCP-4581-B is presumed to act as a primary containment mechanism for SCP-4581-C.
SCP-4581-C is spherical luminous object, potentially an ultra-light strange matter star, approximately 1.3 meters across in the exact center of SCP-4581-B. While SCP-4581-B evidently absorbs or reflects most of SCP-4581-C’s radiative output, a constant base flux of 9█.█ kW of radiation, with peaks within the optical and ultraviolet range, escapes to the outside world. When SCP-4581 is activated, a highly collimated beam of radiation and exotic plasma is emitted directly upward by SCP-4581-C, passing through SCP-4581-B and being focused or otherwise modified by the upper components of SCP-4581-A. This beam extends upwards until it abruptly stops 25 meters above SCP-4581-C and forces open an SS22 space-time anomaly by unknown means.
SCP-4581-D is, in effect, a control facility for SCP-4581, located underground 0.24 kilometers away from SCP-4581-A. It is split into six floors, with the bottom two floors being taken up mostly by a deuterium-tritium fusion reactor, the upper two being taken up by residences for a permanent staff of 15 and temporary staff of up to 50, the third floor being a single massive room housing vast amounts of equipment, numerous computer banks, and several maintenance access tunnels to SCP-4581-A, and the fourth floor being a central command center for control of SCP-4581 overall. A small vault accessible on the third floor contains ███ kilograms of plutonium-242 and subsequent decay products, which allows for a mostly accurate measure of SCP-4581’s age at upwards of 75,000 years. In spite of this age, SCP-4581-D is entirely free of dust or any notable wear and tear.
Following activation of the onsite reactor, up to 34 distinct instances of SCP-4581-1 have been observed moving throughout the facility. SCP-4581-1 are capable of operating the SCP-4581 with little difficulty and considerably greater efficiency than Foundation staff are currently capable of. Each instance is a sapient holographic entity claiming to be an AI with individual personality imprints of past facility crew members. While SCP-4581-1 instances are non-hostile, as a security precaution all interaction is to be minimized when not directly operating SCP-4581.
Exploration of locations accessible via SCP-4581 are underway.
Addendum 4581-2
Contact has been established with SCP-4581-1 instances using a corrupted dialect of Hindustani. Communications have revealed that SCP-4581’s explicit purpose is the creation and control of artificial space-time anomalies to instantly transport matter and energy elsewhere in space to other devices like it across the universe.
