SCP-2727
Item #: SCP-2727
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-2727 can not be contained. Attempts to capture SCP-2727 have thus far been unsuccessful.
Sufferers of SCP-2727, categorized as SCP-2727-A, are to be kept in isolation with other instances of SCP-2727-A. This isolation should include being locked within a 16x16m cube of non-conductive metal, such as Dirithium. The walls of said cube must be more than a meter thick, otherwise containment will be ineffective.
No object that is sharper or has the potential to be sharper than a plastic spoon should be installed within the cube. 4 years worth of Food and water should be installed within the cube before containment. 2 years worth of hygienic products should be installed within the cube before containment. Entertainment, such as television and internet access, is allowed. Subjects may not upload anything to the internet or be allowed to engage in communications with anyone outside of the Cube.
Running water is not to be installed within the cube. Subjects should bathe using the water and soap given to them by the foundation. A drain should be installed in the center of the cube to catch the runoff from bathing as well as defecation and urination. This should be captured in an air-tight container and routinely incinerated to avoid buildup.
Instances of SCP-2727-A must be allowed to socialize with one another. If a site has only one single sufferer of SCP-2727-A, termination of subject is allowed and encouraged. Termination should be enacted by placing the instance into their containment cube, heating the cube to a temperature beyond that of human survival until the subject is terminated. Foundation personnel should wait at least twenty-four hours before re-opening the cube. Alternatively, controlled infection of D-Class personnel is authorized in order to allow for the continued monitoring and study of SCP-2727-A instances. If the latter option is chosen, D-Class personnel should be entered into a new cube with the infected individual. Repeat process until cube habitation limit is reached. When cube habitation limit is reached, terminate subjects as stated above.
Observation of SCP-2727-A instances must only occur through the use of Level 4 Psychics. Telepathy should be used to ask subjects questions about their condition. These psychics must undergo heavy hypno-therapy after each observation session. No form of psychic "Other-sight" into the cube is allowed and any psychic found to be engaging in said act should be terminated and incinerated, along with any personnel they interacted with prior to and during the act.
If instances of SCP-2727-A manage to escape from containment then long-range heavy fire power, (Ballistic missiles, artillery barrages, nuclear bombardment, etc.), is authorized. Targeting systems using thermal optics are enough to block the spread of SCP-2727. MTF units are not to be dispatched on missions to contain or terminate instances of SCP-2727-A.
Instances of SCP-2727-A are to have their names and biographies kept on file, but no pictures are to be taken of them for their dossiers or for any other reason.
Description: SCP-2727 is a disease that only affects the species Homo sapiens sapiens.
The disease is transmitted through the act of communication with infected persons. Transmission occurs between 5 seconds to 7 months. A single SCP-2727-A instance is able to infect an unlimited amount of humans, so long as those humans can communicate with the SCP-2727-A instance through non-psychic means. This includes the use of verbal and non-verbal communication.
The sole symptom of the disease is the logical loop, wherein the subject's mind will be locked into thinking about a single question/concept/material/etc. for an indeterminate amount of time. This can result in the subject dying from starvation and/or dehydration due to them being pre-occupied by their unending thought. Madness is also a common symptom among sufferers. Self-harming is common among SCP-2727-A instances who use it as a way to break out of their loops.
Psychics are unable to bring subjects out of this loop. The loop can be broken, however, by conversation with another individual. Other sufferers are essential for SCP-2727-A survival, as they form a mutually beneficial relationship where they break each other out of their loops. This relationship only lasts for about a year, however, which is usually when subjects begin to have their loops, for a lack of a better term, "sync" up with each other. Unless another subject is entered into the cube the SCP-2727-A instances have approximately 3 months to survive. At the end of this 3 months the loops will be unstoppable and the subject(s) will be unable to escape their minds. Adding additional D-class personnel at this stage will result in a rapid infection and incubation rate. The D-class will be catatonic like the others in the cube within 10 days of exposure.
When death occurs in an instance of SCP-2727-A, the body expels an enormous quantity of an electromagnetic energy. This energy is the closest thing SCP-2727 has to a physical form. This energy releases in an exactly 5 meter radius, passing through any conductive material. Any human caught within the radius will be infected with SCP-2727, and become an instance of SCP-2727-A. The non-conductive metals used in the making of their containment cells block this energy from escaping containment. Instances of SCP-2727-A caught within the blast experience an event akin to psychic whiplash, resulting in extreme headaches, access to the dead subject's memories, and, in rare instances, being stuck in a loop as the dead subject.
