ORIGINAL DRAFT

NOTE: The following document reflects containment procedures as they were prior to 08/09/1984 a.k.a Incident XXXX-55. For more information, see Addendum.

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX, it is impossible to indefinitely contain. A field team known as "Watchtower" will be tasked with locating and containing the subject following a XXXX-Apocalips event.

Once located, the task force must set up a local containment zone disguised as a maintenance service to prevent access to the subject. If any members of the public come into contact with SCP-XXXX or its anomalous properties, Class-C Amnestics are to be administered. If the general public in the area becomes aware of the anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX, Class-A Amnestics are to be administered over the area. All SCP-XXXX-V instances are to be covered up per Procedure XXXX-Gamma.

Procedure XXXX-Gamma: In the case of public awareness of fatalities caused by SCP-XXXX, all citizens are to be administered Class-A Amnestics. The deaths are to covered up as either a string of murders, a disaster, or a mass suicide. False cadavers are to be provided to families in consolation.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a rusted iron water tower that varies widely in height across XXXX Incidents, with a top recorded height of 42 meters. A cylindrical tank at the top measures a consistent 8 meters in diameter and 10 meters in height. The tank is supported by four straight iron beams, and a single, unsupported ladder leads to the roof of the structure.

Writing on the side of the tank reads: Trentville, AL. According to records, a town in Alabama [DATA EXPUNGED]. Behind the words is a weathered painting of a forest valley and river. Upon closer inspection of the art, [DATA EXPUNGED]. Below the art is a quote, which varies between XXXX Instances. Quotes have included:

  • "Did you even notice?"
  • "They’re gone forever"
  • "Pay close attention"
  • "Something's not right"
  • "Look away"
  • "Right under your nose"

This suggests that SCP-XXXX possesses some degree of sentience. Further investigation into SCP-XXXX sentience pending.

SCP-XXXX appears in populated areas across the United States, Southern Canada, and occasionally Northern Mexico. These areas are always suburban or rural in nature. When SCP-XXXX is within the perceived limits of a populated area, the amount and frequency of missing persons cases in the area will increase drastically, with between 1 to ██ persons going missing each day. Missing persons are referred to as SCP-XXXX-V instances. The method by which SCP-XXXX-V instances go missing, as well as what happens to them, is as of yet unknown.

SCP-XXXX possesses the ability to alter public memory and perception. After infiltrating a populated area, the subject's effect takes hold. The general public seems to either completely ignore the presence of the subject or accept SCP-XXXX as having always been present. This effect extends to all SCP-XXXX-V instances; the absence of these missing persons will be outright ignored by all members of the community, including family and close friends. As a result, instances of SCP-XXXX can go unnoticed for long periods of time.

The effect of SCP-XXXX will entirely cease once it is noticed as being out of place. The subject will then remain inert for upwards of 70 days, after which it will vanish with no trace. This is referred to as a XXXX-Apocalips Event. The object will then reappear in a new populated area within 7 days. If SCP-XXXX is demolished, an XXXX-Apocalips Event will automatically trigger (See Watchtower Comms).
