Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: All current instances of SCP XXXX are currently contained within a standard containment chamber, located in Site-64. The chamber is to be fitted with a raised platform holding the main enclosure and surrounded by a cardboard wall. The enclosure consists of several artificial environments made of construction paper, with the appearance of real-life habitats such as temperate forests and oceans. All instances are to be placed within this enclosure, and any instances located outside this enclosure are to be returned immediately. Deceased instances must be stored within a standard containment locker located within the chamber. New instances are to be introduced every 24 hours as per normal protocol.
Paper material for repairs or new instances is to to be kept within a standard locker within the SCP XXXX observation area. A booklet detailing maintenance of the instances and enclosure is to be given to all personnel assigned to SCP XXXX. Any changes to the enclosure are to be approved by a Level-3 Researcher or above, and these changes must be recorded in a new edition of the booklet.
Observation of SCP XXXX instances is available to Level 1 personnel and above, however access may be restricted by a Level-3 researcher or above if deemed necessary. Visits are limited to a max of 2 hours.
Description: SCP XXXX is the collective term for a collection of several hundred pieces of paper and wrappers crumpled and crudely shaped into the appearance of animals.1 All instances are animate, capable of sustained locomotion, and display signs of sentience similar to a similar member of the species the instance resembles. Instances of SCP XXXX will often simulate the behaviors of wild animals, and have been observed feeding, foraging, mating and caring of young. It is currently unknown whether feeding behavior actual sustains instances of SCP XXXX. Aquatic and aerial instances will swim or fly by sustained levitation through currently unknown means. When an instance is damaged or manipulated in a way that the original form is unrecognizable, the instance permanently ceases to exhibit anomalous properties.
Instances will treat other, non-anomalous paper materials as part of their environment, either as terrain or rudimentary plant-life. During these interactions, the color and shape of the material plays a factor in how it is seen by instances of SCP XXXX. However, testing has revealed that crumpled paper similar to the composition of XXXX instances will become another instance after one hour of exposure.
Instances have been observed to acknowledge the presence of researchers, often observing them periodically during normal behavioral patterns. Instances will often attempt to flee if a hand is placed into the enclosure, and will be apprehensive after being returned to the enclosure. It is currently unknown whether humans are seen as part of their environment or not, study is ongoing.
Incident-XXXX: On 3/11/2017, Site-64 suffered a containment breach, resulting in SCP XXXX's containment chamber being partially destroyed. After the breach was contained and all personnel were cleared to return, researchers assigned to the SCP discovered that the original enclosure had been damaged by debris. An inspection found that all but 15 SCP XXXX instances had survived, the rest being declared terminated. The chamber was repaired and placed on restricted access for 3 days, as researchers worked to stabilize the population of SCP XXXX. On 3/14/2017, full access was restored, and the population was at stable levels. It was determined that 7 different species of SCP XXXX were 'exctinct' and that 6 new species of SCP XXXX had been introduced. New protocols were instated after discussion by head researchers.
