Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in it's containment cell under continuous watch by security personnel.
SCP-XXXX is allowed to move freely about the cell as it pleases, however any alarming changes in shape are to be reported to on sight researchers immediately.
If SCP-XXXX shows any signs of hostility towards a human it is to be immediately detained with sedatives.
SCP-XXXX is to be fed at the hours of 05:00 and 21:00. Any changes in diet must be approved a Class-C Researcher.
Personnel are under no circumstances allowed to make physical contact SCP-XXXX and must wear full body protective gear when entering it's cell. (see experiment 6A)
Staff tasked with feeding SCP-XXXX are to quickly distribute said food, and promptly exit, unless Class-C approved experimentation dictates otherwise.
Description:
In it's dormant state SCP-XXXX appears to be a medium sized, cardboard shipping box. Inside is a sentient, amorphous creature that possesses profound shape changing abilities. The box it's self is not anomalous, but appears to be bound to the creature inside, as the creature has never made any attempts to exit the box entirely. SCP-XXXX appears to possess high levels of intelligence.
It has not shown any direct signs of hostility towards other entities of higher sapience, however it will attack and consume live animals of lesser sapience such as rats, fish, and bugs. SCP-XXXX's most common method when eating live prey is to wait in it's dormant state until the prey approaches, and then ensnare it in a cephalopodic tentacle, and placing it into it's presumed mouth inside the box. SCP-XXXX has never produced any sort of waste or excrement, research concerning it's digestive process is pending. Previous experimental research has lead to the conclusion that SCP-XXXX can only shapeshift into biological material such as flesh, bone, fur, etc. Strict precautions have been taken in order to prevent it from shifting into any sort of human form.

Experiment Log 1 - Oct 5, 199█

Procedure:
SCP-XXXX is exposed to several types animals and items throughout the following tests.
Test 1: A common rat is placed into the cell.
SCP-XXXX assumes dormant state
After a few minutes, the rat approaches SCP-XXXX
A large tentacle protrudes from SCP-XXXX and quickly ensnares the rat.
SCP-XXXX consumes the rat.
Test 2: A dead rat of the same species as the previous is placed in the cell.
SCP-XXXX lies dormant for roughly 10 minutes before a snail like eye stalk appears from the box.
The eye scans the room before focusing on the dead rodent.
Various large insectoid legs protrude from the top of the box.
It begins haphazardly walking towards the dead rodent, then rotates it's self so that the open end with the legs is facing downward.
A long frog like tongue descends upon the dead rodent and pulls it up into the creatures mouth.
The creature returns to the middle of the room and assumes dormant state.
Test 3: An active, remote-camera is placed into the cell
SCP-XXXX once again protrudes an eye stalk and examines the camera from a distance.
SCP-XXXX produces 5 tentacles of various kinds from it's top and begins to 'walk' towards the camera.
Upon reaching the camera it extends a large snake like tongue and proceeds to curiously lick the device.
It promptly loses interest and moves back towards the middle of the room before once again assuming it's dormant state.
Test 4: A small monkey (rhesus macaque) is placed in the cell.
SCP-XXXX extends 2 eye stalks and carefully observes the monkey.
The monkey curiously approaches the SCP.
Once the monkey comes within .5 meters, SCP-XXXX slowly extends 2 octopus like tentacles towards it.
The monkey appears cautious, but makes no attempts of evasion.
SCP-XXXX touches the monkey's shoulder in a seemingly gentle manner.
The monkey stays still.
The tentacle in contact with the monkey begins to rapidly sprout fur.
The monkey appears alarmed, and moves back before turning and quickly moving towards the door of the cell.
The monkey is quarantined for further examination.
Analysis: The shape changing ability of SCP-XXXX is more limited than originally thought. It appears that it can only replicate the biological material of creatures it comes in direct contact with. All staff are now required to wear full body protective gear when entering SCP-XXXX's cell.
