Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a standard containment unit at Site-87. Tests utilizing SCP-XXXX's abilities are to be performed in a lab with approved brain monitoring equipment and authorized psych-evaluation personnel standing by.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a king-size bed complete with a blanket, a sheet, 2 pillows, and a headboard. Testing of the fabric has determined standard manufacturing process and materials with the exception of the fabric containing ██████████████. The sheet and blanket are black in color with the pillows and mattress being white.
Sections of SCP-XXXX are classified as follows:
- Blanket - SCP-XXXX-1
- Sheets - SCP-XXXX-2
- Pillows- SCP-XXXX-3 and SCP-XXXX-4
Any subject that rests in SCP-XXXX will pass through the sleep cycle stages at an unprecedented speed, usually achieving REM sleep within minutes of the subject closing its eyes. This effect also works on subjects that suffer from insomnia. SCP-XXXX's secondary effect begins shortly after REM sleep has been achieved, brain activity and interviews suggest subject experiences powerful lucid dreaming. The random nature of its effects have proven an obstacle to understanding SCP-XXXX.
Further testing has suggested that the dreams induced by SCP-XXXX are based on the memories of the test subject. These dreams can be manipulated to a limited extent based on conventional scientific understanding of sleep. SCP-XXXX is also capable of retrieving memories that have been previously modified or removed through various amnestics, extent of effects further detailed in SCP-XXXX-B and SCP-XXXX-C:
SCP-XXXX-A: Object Retrieval (██/██/████)
SCP-XXXX was brought to the foundations attention after several patients at a psychiatric ward located in █████, ██ reported consistent lucid dreaming experiences after resting in SCP-XXXX. Local psychologists began to report on the phenomenon to the wider psychiatric community. Foundation officials dispatched Agent █████ and her team to retrieve SCP-XXXX and process civilians that came into contact with SCP-XXXX or its effects.
SCP-XXXX-B: Testing Logs
Subject: D-Class Male
Date: (██/14/████)
Summary: Subject reached REM sleep within 3 minutes of closing its eyes, brain activity consistent with regular lucid dreaming patterns. Upon waking subject became very agitated and escalated to violent behavior. Subject was neutralized by security without further incident. A psychiatric evaluation following the incident suggests the subjects dream was identical to a traumatic memory involving his ██████. See Dr. ███████'s notes for further details.
Subject: Canis Familiaris
Date: (██/21/████)
Summary: Subject circled around before lying down on SCP-XXXX and fell asleep within 48 seconds of closing its eyes. Dreaming patterns typical of a canine were observed during experiment. Memory retrieval effects of SCP-XXXX untested due to the subject lacking sufficient verbal communication.
Dr. ███████'s request to personally test SCP-XXXX and its effects has been granted, Dr. ███████ is to receive immediate level 3 psych and medical examinations following the experiments conclusion.
Subject: Dr. ███████
Date: (██/17/████)
Test Modifications: In compliance with Dr. ███████ request, a poster of a gray and black kitten to be placed within the testing chamber to assist in the experiment.
Summary: Upon laying down on SCP-XXXX and focusing intently on the requested poster subject fell asleep within 33 seconds despite suffering from insomnia. Brain activity revealed evidence of powerful lucid dreaming in line with previous tests. Psych and medical evaluation following the test concluded no ill effects accrued to subject.
Dr. ███████ later reported "reliving" a childhood memory via lucid dreaming.
Subject: D-Class Female
Date: (██/28/████)
Test Modifications: Test procedure modified to include a slight humming in the background just audible to the human ear. Under ordinary circumstances, such an addition would prevent the subject from reaching any stage of sleep.
Summary: The subject verbally complained about the humming before proceeding to lay down on SCP-XXXX as instructed. Brain activity suggested the subject reached REM sleep within 38 seconds despite the tests modification. SCP-XXXX effect seems immune to minor disturbances that interfere with reaching deeper stages of sleep.
Subject: D-Class Female
Date: (██/05/████)
Test Modifications: Due to previous results, personnel replaced the audible humming with music from the heavy metal genre, volume adjusted to avoid permanent damage to subjects hearing. A microphone was attached to subjects ear to ensure music would remain audible through entire test.
Summary: Upon entering the test site the subject reflexively covered ears in an attempt to muffle the music. Appearing visibly agitated, the subject rushed towards SCP-XXXX and immediately covered herself with the pillows designated as SCP-XXXX-3 and SCP-XXXX-4. The microphone recorded SCP-XXXX-3 and SCP-XXXX-4 having almost no effect at dampening the music introduced. Despite this, subject achieved REM sleep within 41 seconds of closing eyes.
Subject: D-Class Male
Date: (██/14/████)
Test Modifications: Subject fed items high in sugar and caffeine prior to beginning experiment, levels confirmed high enough to prevent normal sleep patterns.
Summary: Subject showed symptoms of high sugar and caffeine consumption, when instructed to hold hand up and keep it still subject was unable to prevent movement. Subject proceeded to lay down on SCP-XXXX and closed eyes as instructed. Subject reached REM sleep within 168 seconds, this suggests that SCP-XXXX's effects can be nullified by chemical compounds.
SCP-XXXX-C: Dr. ███████'s Observation Notes
Due to the erratic nature of dreaming and memories, maintaining consistent effects utilizing SCP-XXXX has proven difficult. However SCP-XXXX's effect is consistent in its ability and I believe it could prove useful to the Foundation if a reasonably accurate method of memory retrieval could be established. Testing with SCP-XXXX suggests that if the subject focuses on a designated topic or particular memory before coming into contact with SCP-XXXX its effects can be manipulated to recover a desired memory despite any level of amnesia, the effect also seems capable of bypassing Foundation amnestics. I request Level 4 approval for testing regarding potential utility for Foundation tasks related to dreaming experimentation or, potentially, memory repair. I admit that I would prefer to maintain control over the experiments personally if possible as I have grown rather fond of SCP-XXXX and its potential.
Approval for further testing requested by Dr. ███████ granted, further testing of SCP-XXXX's potential utility to commence within a limited capacity and only with Dr. ███████'s direct supervision.
Additionally Dr. ███████ is to submit a report summarizing conclusions for any experiment carried out directly to a member of Level 4 administration. Psych evaluation of Dr. ███████ must be carried out at least once every 3 months to ensure his personal attachment does not develop into an obsession.
