SCP-XXXX During Recovery

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be suspended via electromagnet within the geometric center of a spherical concrete chamber 120 Meters in diameter at all times. SCP-XXXX's containment chamber is only to be accessible via a circular steel hatch 3 Meters in diameter at the top of the sphere. SCP-XXXX's containment chamber is to be empty, except for an aluminum ladder descending from the top of the chamber, and a circular austenitic stainless steel catwalk surrounding the geometric center of the chamber. The catwalk is to be suspended by copper cables, anchored to the walls of the chamber. Replacement of electromagnets requires the introduction of a backup electromagnet to continue the suspension of SCP-XXXX within the containment chamber's geometric center.

The top hatch of the containment chamber is to be guarded and monitored at all times. No personnel below Level 2 are permitted within the containment chamber at any time. Experimentation within the chamber must be approved by a Level 4 off-site director, and monitored by at least two (2) guards armed with incendiary weapons within the chamber. Due to Incident XXXX-01 (See Experiment XXXX-13), all experimentation involving SCP-XXXX is strictly prohibited. Any instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be incinerated as soon as possible.

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to an anomalous longsword 81.28 Centimeters in length and 1.13 Kilograms in weight. The design is similar to ██th-century weapons, but carbon dating has determined that the sword was forged sometime in ██th-century BCE. The sword has no markings, save for a small imprint of a wasp on the bottom of the pommel. The sword's grip is covered by a wrap composed of leather and copper wire. All attempts to remove the grip from SCP-XXXX have been met with failure.

Material tests have determined the blade, pommel, and cross guard of the subject to be composed of non-anomalous meteoric kamacite. The leather grip was found to be made from human skin. Further tests of the grip have determined the leather came from a single individual. The rust like substance covering the sword was found to be dried hemolymph, chemically identical to the hemolymph of Polistes olivaceus.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest when a cadaver of any species comes within 60 meters of it. After a period of time ranging from 10 seconds to 40 minutes, the cadaver within the sword's sphere of influence will instantaneously have all internal fluids replaced by Polistes olivaceus hemolymph, and become animate through unknown means. At this point, the cadaver becomes known as SCP-XXXX-1.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 exhibit extreme aggression, attacking all living beings within SCP-XXXX's sphere of influence by wielding it as a weapon. Instances incapable of wielding SCP-XXXX will instead attack by other means. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will not attempt to leave SCP-XXXX's sphere of influence, and will become inert if they are forcefully removed. Inert instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are inanimate, although they still contain hemolymph. Instances are preserved through unknown means in the state they first came within SCP-XXXX's sphere of influence. Cadavers in late stages of decay will not become animate.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 posses extreme durability and regenerative properties. Tissue destroyed is replaced through anomalous means at a rate of approximately 1 Cubic Centimeter per second. Sections of SCP-XXXX-1 removed from the main body become inert, and are simply replaced. Instances are not able to regenerate tissue that is burned away.

Only one instance of SCP-XXXX-1 can exist at at time. If the instance is destroyed or or otherwise removed from SCP-XXXX's sphere of influence, the closest cadaver to the sword within the sphere of influence will become an instance of SCP-XXXX.

Personnel within SCP-XXXX's sphere of influence demonstrate an extreme aversion to touching it. Whether this effect is anomalous or simply a standard psychological reaction to SCP-XXXX is currently under investigation.

Experiments 01-05

Experiment #: 01
Subject: One (1) adult male rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) Cadaver.
Results: Subject is lowered into containment cell wearing a nylon harness via powered winch. After 5 minutes and 43 seconds, subject becomes animate and hostile. Subject leaps towards SCP-XXXX, knocking it out of electromagnetic containment. Subject is neutralized and SCP-XXXX is placed back in proper containment.

Subject: One (1) adult male American cockroach (Periplaneta americana) Cadaver.
Results: Subject is lowered by hand into containment cell inside a small acrylic glass carrier by Dr. ███. After 1 minute and 2 seconds, subject becomes animate. Subject clings to the side of it's carrier facing SCP-XXXX. Dr. ███ rotates the subject's carrier, and the subject runs to the face that is closest to SCP-XXXX. Dr. ███ opens the carrier, and the subject flies directly at his face, biting him four times. Subject is neutralized.

Subject: One (1) adult male rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) Cadaver, stomach filled with 2l water.
Results: Subject is lowered into containment cell inside a 2 m x 2 m x 2 m iron cage via powered winch. After 3 minutes, subject becomes animate. Subject rattles the bars of it's cage and aggressively gestures at armed personnel within the chamber. Subject's cage is raised out of the containment cell, and subject becomes inanimate. Autopsy reveals all bodily fluids to have been converted to hemolymph. The stomach still contained 2l of non-anomalous water.

Subject: Two (2) adult male rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) Cadavers (Subjects A and B respectively).
Results: Subjects are lowered into containment cell inside a 2 m x 2 m x 2 m iron cage via powered winch. after 8 minutes and 56 seconds, Subject A becomes animate and hostile. Subject's cage is immediately raised out of the containment cell, and Subject A becomes inanimate. Autopsy reveals that the bodily fluids of Subject A were converted to hemolymph, while Subject B was revealed contain non anomalous bodily fluids.

Subject: One (1) male Class-D Personnel.
Results: D-9908 was lowered into containment cell inside a 2 m x 2 m x 2 m iron cage via powered winch. 39 minutes and 3 seconds pass with no changes, save for D-9908 becoming increasingly agitated. after 39 minutes 3 seconds, D-9908 bends over, expressing a sharp, "Piercing" pain in his abdomen. D-9908's cage is immediately raised out of the containment cell. Later surgery on D-9908 discovers a 4.4 Meter long tapeworm in D-9908's small intestine. the tapeworm was filled with hemolymph.

Subject: One (1) adult male rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) cadaver (Subject A), one (1) adult male Sitka deer (Odocoileus hemionus sitkensis) cadaver (Subject B), and one (1) adult male eastern grey squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) cadaver (Subject C).
Results: Subjects are lowered into containment cell inside a 4 m x 4 m x 4 m iron cage via powered winch. After 18 minutes and 33 seconds, Subject A becomes animate and hostile. Subject A violently jumps from wall to wall in its cage and vocalizes aggressively . Subject A is neutralized. After 6 minutes and 19 seconds, Subject B becomes animate and hostile. Subject B rams it's antlers into the bars of its cage, bending them outward. Subject B is neutralized and Subject C is incinerated.

Subject's tank is raised out of the containment cell, and subject becomes inert. Autopsy reveals that the subjects fluids were converted into hemolymph.

Subject's tank is raised out of the containment cell, and Subject H becomes inert. Autopsies reveal that Subject H contains only Polistes olivaceus hemolymph. Subjects A through G and subjects I through K contain non-anomalous fluids.

A loud rushing sound, presumed to be T4-8's Flamethrower, can be heard, followed by several expletives.

T4-LEAD: What the hell?!
T4-8: There was a rat! It was [Expletive] rotten, and [Unintelligible].
T4-LEAD: Calm down, ██████. Care to explain yourself?
T4-8: [Heavy breathing]. Sir, I was attacked by what appeared to be a moderately decayed rodent.
T4-LEAD: Command, be advised, we may have encountered an anomalous entity.

T4-6: Sir, I think I found it.

Radio silence for 5 seconds.

T4-LEAD: Command, be advised, We have likely located the anomaly.

T4-LEAD: We are situated in a large, unfinished room. There are several decayed humanoid figures on the floor in a rough circle, with a rusted metal sword resting in the center. There is one window. Permission to contain probable anomaly?
T4-COM: permission granted.

Radio silence for 18 seconds, followed by grunting and shuffling. Faint flapping can also be heard.

T4-5: probable anomaly is contained.

Flapping can be heard again, louder now.

T4-2: What the- Oh [Expletive]!

Flapping, gunshots, and animal screeches for 1 minute 3 seconds. Screams, presumably those of T4-8, can also be heard.

T4-3: [Expletive], it got ██████! Flame it!

Further gunshots and screeching. Flamethrowers can also be heard.

12 seconds radio silence.

T4-LEAD: Command, be advised, T4-8 is down. I repeat, T4-8 is down.
T4-COM: Acknowledged, T4-LEAD. Is the anomaly contained?
