Item#: SCP-XXXX

Object Class:

Special Containment Procedures:

Description: SCP-XXXX refers to a spatial anomaly scattered across the Great Slave Lake, Canada, with particular concentrations in the cities of Benchoko, Whati, and Yellowknife. Within SCP-XXXX, all known laws of physics begin to break down, which can cause several gravitational, temporal, and local meteorological anomalies. Time becomes increasingly warped with subjects reporting that they had been in SCP-XXXX for weeks or months when they had only been there for a few days.

Any subject inside or in proximity of SCP-XXXX is prone to vanish inexplicitly. Observation of the vanishing is impossible as it hosts a powerful cognitohazard. Video footage of a vanishing becomes corrupted around the point of the vanishing and any photos taken of the vanishing can only be described as an extremely chaotic mess of random colours.

Physics becomes more unstable further in SCP-XXXX. The physical instability will continue to intensify until an object reaches the center, within which nothing can be observed. The center of SCP-XXXX is described to be similar to the singularity of a black hole without the intense gravitational pull. Sattelite imagery of SCP-XXXX shows an empty space where the center should be.

Clouds passing over SCP-XXXX are known to change formation or dissipate entirely suddenly. SCP-XXXX is also known to have unpredicted thunderstorms without rain. It is currently theorized that the reason for this is due to SCP-XXXX producing an abundance of both positive and negative charged particles which causes a thunder reaction in clouds passing over.

Based on the data obtained from Addendum XXXX.1, it has been discovered that a prolonged stay within or in proximity of SCP-XXXX brings the risk of extreme internal and external bodily mutations. These bodily mutations include but are not limited to:

  • Fibrodysplasia
  • Rearrangement of internal organs
  • Sudden growth of bones
  • Duplication of entire limbs, though often incomplete
  • Uncontrolled muscle growth
  • Severe necrosis particularly around the neck, chest, and back area

The survival chance of a subject undergoing the bodily mutations caused by SCP-XXXX is very slim ranging from 24% down to a 3% chance of survival. If a subject manages to survive, they are completely brain-dead or are paralyzed. Life expectancy for survivors does not exceed 4 months.

Addendum XXXX.1

Within 5 days, 4 people were reported to the Foundation regarding horrific bodily mutations, internal and external. According to interviews, all 4 people were in proximity to SCP-XXXX. All 4 people and their bodily mutations will be listed below.

Subject Name: Hannah Weverman

Subject Age: 32

Subject Status: Deceased

Deformities:

Subject had a long bone-like structure measuring around 43.2 cm long piercing out from her left thigh. This bone structure is believed to be an incomplete duplicate of the femur. At the time of discovery, the incomplete femur was entangled in muscle mass and had patches of skin attempting to grow.

Subject had a duplicate of the 5th and 6th rib which were pushing downward, piercing into her right lung. Additionally, subject's sternum was severely out of place and was putting extreme pressure on the subject's internal organs.

After several more tests, it can be concluded that a prolonged stay within or in the proximity of SCP-XXXX brings the possibility of internal and external bodily mutations which will usually be fatal to the subject. Site Command has ordered the on-site security force to intensify security measures to prevent any civilians from being affected by SCP-XXXX.

Addendum XXXX.2

On 23/8/2001, unusual seismic activity was detected around the area of SCP-XXXX which repeated in intervals of 30 seconds. Upon triangulating the exact origin point of the activity, it was found that it had originated from within SCP-XXXX itself. Following this, an outbreak of SCP-XXXX-related cases occurred in Benchoko, Whati, and Yellowknife. The following line graph shows the data regarding SCP-XXXX-related cases from 5/8/2001 to 25/9/2001:

Data regarding SCP-XXXX-related cases between August and September.

It is currently unknown why the sudden activity or the seismic event occurred, however, all resources are being directed to the evacuation and amnestic administration of the local population. Civilians are being evacuated under the guise of an incoming hurricane. The Canadian Government has agreed to assist in the evacuation until the area surrounding SCP-XXXX is declared safe.

Audio Transcript - SCP-XXXX_Serious_Report

The date is 17/1/2002. My name is Dr. Oliver McHyle, Level 3 Researcher. I've been tasked to log this report for the higher-ups. So- uhm. Alright, I'll try to explain it first. I'm pretty sure you know what happened 5 months ago so I'll skip that. So, the important part, while we were evacuating the civilians, we received a report from Fort Providence that a few people had disappeared.

Now we thought: "Oh, it's just an unfortunate disappearance that was coincidentally near this SCP", but then, 2 days later, Providence sent us another report. This time, it was about a man who had, get this, a duplicate of his right arm and necrosis all over his back and neck. Of course, we immediately went over to check it out, and they weren't lying. Somehow, SCP-XXXX's effects managed to spread here.

[Long pause.]

We didn't think that much of it just extended our containment area and went over with it. But then, people, mainly campers, began disappearing across the Mackenzie River. Before you knew it, Camsell Bend had been affected. We don't have enough resources to just extend the containment area again. And another thing, our initial reality anchors, the ones we put at the lake, they're broken. We didn't even know it, it didn't signal us about any malfunction, it just broke overnight.

We theorize that the breaking of the reality anchors is what caused the sudden growth of SCP-XXXX, but we don't know for certain. All we know, the Mackenzie River is now part of SCP-XXXX, and for all we know it's still growing. Hell, i-it might've even already reached Fort Nelson! In any case, please… advise us, give us anything. I… I feel myself changing. We need help, and we need it quick.

[Sigh]
Dr.Oliver McHyle, signing out.
