An Arachnophobic Nightmare
Item#: SCP-5212
Object class: Euclid
Special containment procedures:
The affected village of [DATA EXPUNGED], Canada is to be put under surveillance twenty four (24) hours per day by at least six (6) authorized personnel. Furthermore, the village is to be surrounded by a twenty (20) meter high concrete and steel wall, which is to be guarded by security personnel at all times. This personnel is to be issued with Flamethrowers as well as thermite grenades to repell any possible offense of SCP-5212. Due to the risk of aggravating the hive, all contact to the village is prohibited without further approval of at least three O5 council members and Level three (3) access permission. If instances of SCP-5212 occur within the security zone of five (5) kilometers around the affected location, heavy Napalm bombardment is to be ordered to contain any spread of SCP hatchlings. Tests with SCP-5212 entities have to be approved by at least two (2) O5 council members and are to be executed in heavily guarded testing chambers at Site [data explunged]. Infected subjects are to be terminated when not in testing.
Description:
SCP-5212 is an arachnoid species found in [DATA EXPUNGED], Canada. The village was found completely empty with the inhabitants being nowhere to be found in ██/██/████. Authorities of the [DATA EXPUNGED] police department were sent to investigate in the case of missing inhabitants, their bodies have yet to be recovered. After the foundation took over investigations, several expeditions were authorized by the O5 council, only two of them have returned from their mission, while the rest was found with [REDACTED] wounds and in several states of decomposition. Most of them were assimilated to the hive's nesting grounds which are to be avoided at all circumstances. The recovered expedition logs have been attatched to the addendum.
Specimen of SCP-5212 possesses six (6) spider like legs and two (2) mandibles similar to those of entities of the common Lycosidae, yet they do not seem to possess any pelage on them like most known arachnoides. Instead, their skin is composed of an extremely powerful yet thin layer of citin, able to withstand most small arms fire.
Instances of SCP-5212 show an increased amount of strength, agility and speed, exceeding any Lycosoidae as well as many arthropods known to foundation members. Recorded incidents of containment breaches show the arachnoides jumping onto security personnel over distances ranging from seven (7) up to [REDACTED] meters and being able to sever limbs off their victims with their powerful chelincerea in groups of less than four (4) individuals. These extremities do not end in the usual toxic claws due to the lack of venom glands and are used to inflict heavy trauma as well as extreme pressure leading to partial dismemberment of the victim.
Entities of SCP-5212 lack any organs to receive visual information, instead they rely on special receptors situated underneath their chitin shell. These organs seem to be stimulated by changes in air pressure, moisture and heat, similar to SCP 939 due to their very similar lifestyle. SCP-5212 is a cave dwelling species which prefers climates with a temperature under 15⁰C or 59⁰F, any higher temperatures will cause it to experience significant pain and eventual death, hence allowing for termination and containment of the entities via using Napalm and Flamethrowers. Furthermore, instances of SCP-5212 have been observed to work as a collective hive mind, their coordination being enough to build bridges and other means of obstacle avoidance in order to reach their prey. This leads to them accumulating in cold damp areas such as caves to build their hives and nesting grounds under these perfect circumstances.
Most of the arachnoides possess a reddish brown pigmentation, though pregnant instances of female SCP-5212 are marked with bright white dots on their chitin shell around areas of the abdomen. The male instances however do not differ from non-pregnant females in their color, yet they are much bigger, reaching from a length of seven (7) to nine (9) centimeters and a width of four (4) to five (5) centimeters, due to their natural regulation to guard the hive, while females only grow to a length of three (3) to four (4) centimeters and a width of one (1) to two (2) centimeters. Their bodies are slightly wider in relation to their length, making them able to transport SCP-5212 hatchlings inside the upper part of their abdomen. This part of their Opisthosoma is heavily plated, showing a thickness of up to half a centimeter of their special chitin, making it immune to even 5.56 mm rounds fired from the muzzle of an AR-15 on a range of ten (10) meters.
The hatchlings of SCP-5212 are only visible under a microscope and seem to be miniature versions of their parental SCP instance. They are transported in a seperate chitin compartment on the back of their maternal arachnoide, which is formed into an extremely sharp tipped arrow, able to pierce even cevlar vests withstanding .50 magnum rounds. A thick net of muscles surrounds this chitin arrow, making it able for the female SCP to fire it onto a target like a projectile. How this extreme grade of velocity is being reached by such a small subject is yet to be determined.
The chitin compartments furthermore show miniature hooks on the lower side of their tip, making it hard for any subject to pull them out once hit, increasing the lethality rate of SCP-5212 up to ninety five percent (95%). Once a suitable host has been picked by the female entity of SCP-5212, it opens a small slit inside its chitin shell and fires the arrowhead at the subject from an average distance of ten (10) meters in order to penetrate skin.
Has this compartment hit a target possessing living tissue, its front opens in order to release the miniature hatchlings into the host. This person is therefore referred to as SCP-5212-A, since currently there is no way of avoiding the spread of hatchlings and their consumption of tissue inside the affected subject. Tests with SCP-500 have been denied due to its unlikeliness to prevent said effects.
Hatchlings of SCP-5212 begin to consume all the living tissue they come into contact with, exponentially growing in size with every intake of blood and tissue inside SCP-5212-A. SCP-5212-A will instantly begin to experience extreme waves of heat and pain coming from the place the chitin projectile has hit, making identification of affected hosts easy allowing for terminatation by staff personnel in case of an containment breach. Instances of SCP-5212 hatchlings are observed to always make their way towards their host's jaw by burrowing into the esophagus and wandering along its path, even in cases where the affected person was injected in areas of extremities such as legs and/or arms. Once reached this area, the hatchlings begin to feed once more, growing up to said sizes of their individual sex. The time of this incubation can differ with the age of SCP-5212-A, subjects with the age of twenty (20) to fifty (50) years are observed to have an incubation period of about thirty (30) to fourty (40) seconds while younger subjects such as infants have been seen to survive up to two (2) hours without entering the final incubation stage. Infants seem to be used as long term hosts for SCP-5212 due to their natural close proximity to humans, therefore increasing the chance of spreading further hatchlings.
This stage consists of the hatchlings producing a secrete that sends their host into a state of euphoria and suppressing pain as of means to keep it alive until the grown up SCPs hatch from their mouth. Agent D-57-3 consists mostly of Dopamine, Serotonin and Noradreline, as well as a high concentration of a substance comparable to [REDACTED] anesthetics. Due to its anesthetic properties, this agent is to be kept in foundation property for more research on Site [REDACTED].
The final hatching of SCP-5212 entities is achieved by slowly opening their host's jaws, often breaking them and letting them hang in an unnaturally wide angle up to [REDACTED] degrees alteration when not already broken by the growth process. Freshly hatched subjects are able to reproduce immediately, their sexual organs being fully developed since birth. SCP-5212-A's biological functions do not seize for a period of up to twenty four (24) hours despite internal injuries, however, the effect of SCP-5212's secrete is seen to lessen, letting the host suffer under immense pain and effects of bloodloss unless infected by another instance of SCP-5212. Is SCP-5212-A in the near vicinity of the main hive, male entities of the arachnoides will begin transporting it there, enveloping it in a sticky substance made up of a special chemical agent in their saliva. After completing the incapacitation of the prey, several female SCP entities will continue using the still alive subject to reproduce. Once SCP-5212-A seizes biological functions, the carcass will be used as a feeding ground for younger SCP instances, making it a dangerous and hazardous location.
