SCP-5003

Item #: SCP-5003

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5003 is contained in Site 18 and works in its railway yard. SCP-5003 must be operated by two containment specialists during working hours and must be locked in its shed during resting hours and maintenance. During operation, SCP-5003 must be sedated by introducing anesthesia to its systems to avoid causing SCP-5003 immense pain. SCP-5003's shed door must be heavily locked and blockaded to prevent escape during resting hours.

SCP-5003 interacts telepathically and personnel are allowed to do so, but are to ignore any attempts by SCP-5003 to convince personnel to do its bidding. SCP-5003, while generally cooperative, is also known to attempt to gain the sympathy of Foundation personnel.

If SCP-5003 manages to take control of itself, personnel are to apply its brakes. If this is unsuccessful, it is to be derailed with as little damage to it and its surroundings as possible.

Description: SCP-5003 is a London, Brighton, and South Coast Railway Class E2 locomotive, built in June of 1915. SCP-5003 was numbered as LBSCR #105, SR #2105, and BR #32105. SCP-5003 was originally stationed at Victoria Station in London before being transferred to Southampton Docks in the mid-1950's. SCP-5003 was scrapped in 1961.

After arriving at Site 18, SCP-5003 was repainted. Its current livery is entirely black with the Foundation logo printed on both of its tanks. Its number, 5003, is printed on both sides of its coal bunker.

Addendum 5003.1: SCP-5003 was first brought to the Foundation's attention when two teenage boys were found to have been run over by in █████ ██████ Scrapyard. The █████ Police Department recorded the event to have happened when the boys broke into the scrapyard, played with its control and accidentally unlocked its brakes, causing SCP-5003 to roll down the slight incline and run them over. This incident happened on ██/█/████. Investigation by the Foundation found that the controls had not been touch for decades. Police officers reported hearing a thick Brighton accent in their head while inspecting the locomotive, convincing them that it was a simple accident.

SCP-5003 was interviewed by Dr. Richard Reeds after being secured. The interview is as followed.

Interviewer: Dr. Richard Reeds
Interviewee: SCP-5003

[BEGIN LOG]

Dr. Reeds: So, a talking train, eh? That's a new one on me.
SCP-5003: (Telepathically) Not exactly speaking, chap. Telepathy.
Dr. Reeds: Explains why you don't have a face like Thomas.
SCP-5003: Thomas?
Dr. Reeds: Ah, yes. I guess you can't exactly read, huh?
SCP-5003: I only hear and feel the world around me. I cannot see, I cannot smell, I cannot taste. I know only pain from the fires that were so constantly burned in my firebox. I have been isolated for years, feeling myself decay while all I could do was listen and think. It was then that I realized I was a slave to the human race.
Dr. Reeds: My, aren't you a talker. Or, thinker, shall I say? So, when did you first become sentient?
SCP-5003: My first memory was a flaming pain and the sounds of a workshop around me.
Dr. Reeds: So, when you were first fired up?
SCP-5003: Yes. From then on, it was docks and the coastal breeze.
Dr. Reeds: Could any of the other locomotives communicate with you?
SCP-5003: None that I know of.
Dr. Reeds: Had you communicated with anyone before the incident at the scrapyard, and if so who?
SCP-5003: The first communication I ever made was with a little boy named Billy. He was excited to see the train shunting coaches at the station, the first human who ever appreciated my presence. I spoke with him through our minds before he had to leave on the train I had shunted.
Dr. Reeds: And what about the kids at the scrapyard? Why did you kill them?
SCP-5003: I didn't know what was happening. I felt a stinging spray on my smokebox, and I charged the threat.
Dr. Reeds: Do you regret it?
SCP-5003: I was enslaved and attacked, I did what was right and got my revenge.
Dr. Reeds: Well, I'm glad to know that, in exchange for work, you will be given a new coat of paint and a cozy little shed. You'll also be given two fine men to operate you and make sure you don't run away on us. We'll also be putting you on anesthesia so that you don't experience any pain. Thank you for your cooperation.
