Item #: SCP-5698
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5698 is to be stored in Storage Locker 262 in the Safe Containment Wing of Area-52. Personal are to not under any circumstances handle SCP-5698, nor should SCP-5698 be stored near wood surfaces. Whenever testing of SCP-5698 is required, D-Class are to be used once they have been trained in how to operate SCP-5698.
Description: SCP-5698 is a 17th century matchlock musket constructed in what is now Potsdam, Germany. SCP-5698 is anomalous due to the fact that its slow match, which holds the flame mechanism that is used to fire SCP-5698, never burns out, despite being submerged underwater, left in storage for years, and even resistant to blowing it out. The weapon is 100% accurate despite being smoothbore, and always seems loaded despite appearing to be unloaded. Those who handle the weapon for periods longer then 15 minutes have a 92% chance of dying either having it explode in their hands, which leaves the weapon intact, or by going missing without a trace.
SCP-5689 was recovered by the Foundation in 2015 when reports came in of 17th century re-enactors being killed or maimed by the weapon, and a cover story was distributed, claiming that it was the result of poor handling. Records were recovered describing the weapons life, including one that claimed SCP-5698 was a 19th century flintlock. Research into whether SCP-5698 is able to alter records about it is currently underway.
Document #5698: Notes on the recovery of SCP-5698
SCP-5698 was found in █████ forest by the body of 17th century re-enactor █████ ███████ by Foundation Agent ██████, who later would go missing as a result of handling the weapon. Agent ██████ reported hearing a voice that he believed came from SCP-5698, urging him to pick it up, but this has not been reported by anyone else since.
