Item #: 4783
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures:
Must be kept in a circular chamber with a diameter of exactly 15 yards and has a roof exactly 4 yards from the ground with cement walls, floor, and ceiling. A single Class C security officer must be kept to guard the entrance between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Entrance must be locked specifically by a bronze key held by the guard. No electronic devices may be in or within 25 feet of the chamber due to a lack of functionality. This chamber is to be located at Site-⬛⬛ under the observance of ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛.
Description:
SCP-4783 is a sentient double-edge broadsword with a fist-shaped seemingly stone pommel and a 39 inch seemingly steel-bronze alloy blade with a straight guard and leather grip, which normally is resting within a leather scabbard designed to hold the blade of the sword fittingly. The sword is estimated to have been crafted in the 14th century (though it shows no signs of wearing or deterioration over time), but studies attempting to pinpoint its nationality have failed. Its weight has not successfully been measured.
SCP-4783 is normally docile and seemingly insentient, lying in the center of its chamber, still. However, when a subject enters the room and becomes within a 5 foot radius of the sword, it will hover into the air anywhere from 1 to 6 feet from the ground and appear from the sheath as if it has been drawn, and enter a fighting position as if an invisible swordfighter was holding it. The sword will then start screaming in a vaguely Scotish accent an unknown language (despite there not being any visible source for such speech), but for reasons unexplained, all subjects who have experienced this and came back have claimed to understood the sword, claiming it to be saying, "My name is Paelicar, and I challenge you to a duel!"
Every subject, for unknown reasons, has been recorded to feel an irresistible compulsion to accept this challenge, and upon the subject's approval, SCP-4783 and the subject are presumed to have began dueling. Unfortunately and interestingly, subjects that returned claimed to have no memory of anything after agreeing to duel, and little to no evidence suggests that the subject actually fought with SCP-4783, for of the seven of nine total subjects sent into the chamber, none of them returned with any wounds, and were, for a matter of fact, in the same physical state as when he/she has entered the room.
The two subjects that had not returned both entered the chamber equip with a 2 inch combat knife at separate both exactly 8 hours apart from the other. It is still unknown why these subjects had not returned, beyond the idea that bringing a weapon is a cause for it.
All attempts at damaging the sword have failed, suggesting the blade is made of more than a steel-bronze alloy.
The peculiar vanishings of ⬛⬛⬛ and ⬛⬛⬛
has brought with it suspicion regarding
SCP-4783. This unsafety must be
regarded and no more subjects should
be sent into the room as of now until
we can find out what is going on.
