Item #: SCP-5002
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5002 is to be kept in a 1m x 1m x 1m steel box with a 1cm thick lining of lead on the inside. It should be kept on a small dais used to display SCP-5002 when not in use. Personnel wishing to use SCP-5002 for research purposes or personal use must provide the required request forms. Anyone attempting to use SCP-5002 without the proper clearance are to be detained on sight and will face severe consequences. SCP-5002 is currently held at Site-__.
In the event of a Containment Breach, SCP-5002 is to be isolated from the source of the Breach and if deemed necessary, destroyed.
Description: SCP-5002 is a simple Dream Catcher of tan color with a spider web-pattern of nylon string in the center of an octagon (Diameter measures 6 in). 3 prominent black and white feathers are attached to the octagon with nylon string and are the same dimensions as each other (3in x 1in). No known bird or other feathered organism has been discovered to match the feathers. Spectograph analysis has determined that the materials making up SCP-5002 are not abnormal in any way. The cause of SCP-5002's abnormal properties are unknown at this time.
When SCP-5002 is placed on a wall and a person falls asleep within 10m of SCP-5002, it begins to glow slightly with the same luminescence as that of a standard night light. It retains this form until the person wakes up, after which it will increase in luminosity until reaching the brightness of a standard flood light. After which, the person will then disappear and SCP-5002 will then return to its original state.
The subject will reappear in the same position they had originally vanished from and have been observed to reappear in various states and in some cases not reappearing at all. Interviewed subjects claim to have experienced being transported to what would seem to be an "Alternate Dimension" largely based off of the subject's most recent dream. It would appear that the subject is then forced to experience the warped reality for a random amount of time ranging from as little as 30 minutes to as long as several hours.
SCP-5002 seems to have this effect on any human being having fallen asleep within 10 meters of it regardless of the subject's race, history, and mental health. However, SCP-5002 seems to activate its anomalous property after having been hung on a wall, what constitutes a wall to SCP-5002 is unknown and has been observed to function regardless of the material that makes up the wall as well as its height and width as long as it is sufficient to have SCP-5002 not make contact with the floor.
SCP-5002's anomalous properties appear to only take effect on humans and do not seem to have any significant effect on animals of any nature. The only organisms observed to have an affect include Dogs, Cats, and Chimpanzees. The only effect that these animals appear to have is that SCP-5002 will activate and perform its actions normally up until the point that the subject is normally transported into their "Dream World." Upon which the organism will remain in this dimension and not have any visible alterations projected upon it.
SCP-5002 was found in the apartment of William Joseph on 10/23/2015 after a complaint by the landlord that Mr. Joseph had not left his apartment in several days. Local police investigated his apartment and Mr. Joseph was found deceased in his bedroom, after which the SCP Foundation took over. The cause of death was ruled out to be by multiple lacerations consistent of that with a large animal with sharp claws. It is estimated that Mr. Joseph was transported into his "Dream World" by SCP-5002 and subsequently killed there by a creature and then transported back afterwards.
