Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid Neutralized

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX, there is no need for containment against civilians. Once the event starts it is to be dubbed as a "rare light refection phenomena" to the public.
All personnel on the moon while SCP-XXXX is active are to enter the nearest security chambers. All doors on any site on the moon while SCP-XXXX is active must remain closed till the event subsides. There must be enough equipment, food, and water to last all personnel in the chambers until SCP-XXXX subsides. Due to the unpredictable nature of the event, large stockpiles of these items are recommended. All personnel that doesn't make it in time are to find the nearest suitable shelter possible. Under no circumstances are any doors opened during four days into SCP-XXXX.

Update: After Addendum XXXX.4 SCP-XXXX has not shown any signs of activity. Since this SCP-XXXX has been categorized as Neutralized.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous event that occurs on the moon. The event lasts anywhere from 17 to 33 days. There is a gap of 41 to 89 days between events. During the first hours of the event, the moon's crust starts glowing a bright yellow color. Two days into the event the surface of the moon heats up to 43 degrees celsius. All cavers also increase in temperature alongside the crust. Four days into the event the entire crust of the moon rises to 84 degrees celsius and the surface is covered in a 1cm thick layer of semi-liquid fire-like material. Eleven days into the event the layer of fire rises to 4 cm thick. At this point, SCP-XXXX starts producing appendages in various locations around the moon. These appendages will act stationary until any organic matter comes close. At that point, the appendages will attempt to grab and burn the organic matter. The appendages' size varies from 20 cm to 7 meters.
When organic matter is near the appendages they will move towards it and wrap around it. Once the matter is secured within the appendages, the temperature increases to 89 degrees celsius and holds on to the matter until it's burned.
Seventeen days into the event the appendages are doubled in size and are actively seeking organic matter.

Update: As of ████-██-██ SCP-XXXX has started producing appendages at an increased rate and the fire layer four days into the event has risen to 7 cm. Everyone is to still follow the security measures as provided above.

Update: As of ████-██-██ SCP-XXXX has started to show active aggression towards all sites located on the moon. The event has actively produced appendages around sites and tried breaking in. For more information see Addendums XXXX.1-C and XXXX.1-D

Description Update: The following information was gathered after Addendum XXXX.3-B.

SCP-XXXX is an unidentified massive organism located on the moon. This organism is now designated SCP-XXXX. What is thought to be the entities center is located ████ km deep. The creature's body is made out of a liquid of orange tint. The body of SCP-XXXX spans all of the moon's crust and most of the underground. The body of SCP-XXXX is mostly frozen, although nearer to the moon's center remains liquid. The liquid has heat containing properties and can heat itself up resembling fire. Once organic matter is submerged inside the liquid, it begins the digestions process. During this process, the liquid heats up to 89 degrees celsius until digestion is complete.

During the feeding session, the frozen body of SCP-XXXX on the moon's crust starts heating up. Four days into this the now liquid body of the entity seeps to the surface and heats up resembling fire. Eleven days in enough liquid has seeped into the surface to produce tapenades to hunt for organic matter.
Once the session is over the liquid body seeps back into the ground and freezes over. It's theorized that during this period between sessions the creature hibernates and processes the organic matter.

The age and origin of SCP-XXXX are currently unknown.

Addendum XXXX.1-A

On ████-██-██ the fire layer four days into the event has increased to 7 cm. All personnel is to stick to the safety measures.

Addendum XXXX.1-B

As of ████-██-██ SCP-XXXX has increased the speed at which it produces appendages. All personnel is to still stick with the safety measures. If the entity changes in behavior all active personnel on the moon will be updated on the safety procedures.

Addendum XXXX.1-C

On ████-██-██ SCP-XXXX has started to produce appendages around all sites on the moon. A number of sites reported the appendages trying to break in. After the event, several walls of various sites were damaged. No critical damage was done during this event.

Addendum XXXX.1-D

On ████-██-██ SCP-XXXX has attacked a site. For days into the event, the entity produced 11 appendages around the site ranging from 2 to 7 meters. Six days in the appendages attacked the site. The appendages made several small dents into the site's walls. 3 hours into the attack one of the appendages made a 2mm thick hole in one of the security chambers. All personnel inside the chamber were ordered to exit the chamber to the site's main area. 4 hours 22 minutes into the attack the security chamber was put out of commission as the appendage finally broke into it. 4 hours 30 minutes in another appendage makes a hole 1mm big near the site's entrance. 17 hours into the attack there was a total of 8 appendages that have entered the site. All personnel was ordered to enter the safest area possible on the site.
During the 19th day of the event, several smaller appendages made it into the site. During this, the oxygen levels dropped to critically low levels. The remaining personnel was ordered to get ready for transfer to the nearest site after the event was over. 21 days in the event subsided. During this attack, a total number of ██ personnel died and 6 were injured. After these events, further analysis of the anomaly was ordered in order to learn what caused this.

Addendum XXXX.2-A

On 20██-██-██ after the latest event subsided a team of 4 D-Class personnel was sent out to gather information. These personnel are referred to as D1, D2, D3, and D4.
The team was all equipped with a suite containing 9 hours of oxygen in it, a camera, a flashlight, rope, a small pickaxe, and a box for samples. The team was ordered to head towards the ████ cavern, a direction with hight levels of activity, by the command center responsible for the expedition.

The team sents out. After █ hours of walking the team reaches the caver. D3 stays behind while the others go down the cavern. After descending 30 meters, the remaining team reaches the ground. After 2 hours of exploring the team find nothing and go back up.
They're given ordered to go towards the █████ cavern next. After another █ hours of walking, they reach the area. D3 stays behind while the rest of the team descended. 12 meters deep they reach the bottom. 22 minutes in D1 noticed an area with an orange tint. Comand center asks D1 to collect a sample with his pick. A small piece the size of 4 cm x 2 cm is collected and put into the sample box. D4 reports a vein of the rock going into the ground and collects another sample the size of 8 cm x 6 cm. With █ hours of oxygen left command center orders the team to return.

Once the expedition returned the two rock samples were examined. Both were placed into separate containment units to study. The two rocks turned into a liquid at the temperature of 38 degrees celsius. The liquids were transferred into appropriate containment units. The samples are designated as S-1 and S-2.
From sample S-2 a small portion of liquid was taken for further analysis. Microscope analysis revealed no cells or organic matter within the liquid. Chemical analysis of the liquid revealed nothing. Analysis of sample S-1 held the same results.

Organic matter in the form of an apple slice was submerged into sample S-2. Almost immediately the sample heated up to 89 degrees celsius. The liquid damaged its containment unit from the heat it produced. 3 minutes into this process the apple slice was gone. After this, both samples were put into a heat resistant liquid container. The same test was then done to sample S-1 with the same results. Another test with both samples was done by submerging a piece of meat into the liquids. Both liquids burned up the piece in 3 minutes.

Addendum XXXX.2-B

2 days after the first expedition command center sends out the same four D-Class personnel towards the █████ cavern again. They're equipped with the same equipment except with 11 hours of oxygen each and small scale explosive charges.

The team reach the cavern in █ hours. D2 stays behind while the rest of the team descend down. Once down the team reach the vein of rock D4 reported in the last expedition. The team plants a charge on the ground near the rock vein. Once the charge explodes more of the vein is revealed heading deeper. Comand center requests to use all the charges one by one until the team reaches the veins end.
After using up all of the charges a hole of ██ meters deep was made, with the vein still going deeper. With all the charges out the team is given a command to use their picks to dig up as deep as possible before they need to return. █ hours later they've dug an additional ██ meters and return home. The team collected an additional 4 kg of the rock. From the rock samples, S-3 and S-4 were produced. All tests with these samples returned the same as with samples S-1 and S-2.

Addendum XXXX.2-C

1 day after the last expedition the team return to the cavern. The teams' equipment remains the same with the exception of carrying medium-scale explosive charges.

Once at the cavern D1 stays behind while the remaining crew goes in. Once they reach the dig site D4 sets up 2 of the explosive charges. Once exploded they shatter most of the remaining vein. What remains of the vein leads deeper down. D4 sets up another 2 charges. Once exploded the entire vein is shattered and is no longer visible. Command center decides to go deeper and instructs D4 to place 3 more charges. Once blown up the hole reveals a cavern beneath them. D2 stays up while D4 and D3 go down via rope. Inside the case are large veins of the orange material. Going 40 m into the cave the two discover the end of the cave is covered with the orange rock. D4 sets up 1 explosive charge. Once exploded it shatters most of the wall. D3 collects extra samples as instructed from command center while D4 sets up the last explosive charges. Once exploded the two head into the explosion site to examine if there's anything out of the ordinary.
Both D4 and D3 report a sudden increase in temperature. During this D4 reported a small orange puddle next to his foot. The puddle quickly took a form of a tendril and grabbed onto D4's foot. Before D3 could help him out another puddle emerged from the ground and took a form of a small spike, puncturing D3's foot and suit. At this point more and more liquid has started seeping in. D2 and D1 were ordered to leave the area without D4 and D3.

Addendum XXXX.2-D

The two remaining team members returned to the cavern to one day later to retrieve any additional information and the bodies of D4 and D3 for study and examination. The equipment remained the same except that both of them were equipped with 2 large scale explosive charges and 150 meters of rope combined.

Once at the cavern they set up the first rope to go down. They do the same with the second decent. Once in the area of D4's and D3's last recorded area, they discover only their partly burned clothes and equipment. Neither reports any puddles of the liquid near their bodies or on any surface. The two set up explosives. Once blown up they see nothing out of the ordinary and no liquid seeping anywhere. Command center instructs D1 to set up one of his large scale charges. Once blown up an increase in temperature from the hole is reported by both team members. They set up what remaining rope they have and decide to go down. Once down D1 uses his last explosive charge. Once exploded a large amount of the liquid is starting to seep through. Command center decides that the two should trow in the remaining large scale explosive charges they have left into the liquid. D2 trows in the two charges he has left and explodes them. A large amount of orange liquid is seen splattering on the cavern walls. D1 approaches the hole to examine it as instructed by command center.
D1's camera shows a large pool of the liquid within the hole before D1's head is punctured by an appendage and dragged down. While D2 makes his escape the remaining veins of the cave have started to liquify. D2 makes it back alive.

Addendum XXXX.3-A

After the events described in addendum XXXX-2-D, a droned operation was ordered and conducted in the █████ cavern. The drone was controlled from command center. It was made out of standard steel plating used for other suitable drones on extraterrestrial bodies. The drone was equipped with 4 robotic hands, three of which had fingers, while the last one was equipped with a knife for potential cutting or chipping. Within the drone, there was a separate containment area for samples. The head of the drone was equipped with light and temperature sensors.

Accompanying the expedition are 4 D-Class personnel. This personnel is now going to be referred to as D2, D5, D6, and D7. The purpose of the personnel is to be able to submerge and get the drone out of the liquid and to safely transport the drone to the depths of the cavern. The four personnel are equipped with tools necessary for safely moving the drone down and up the cavern. These include three hooks to lower the drone in the three descents. The hooks are made out of a light metal compound in order to be easily portable. The team is given a moon rover to reach the cavern faster and to have a place to store the hooks before they get there.

Once at the cavern D7 stays behind to operate the hook once the remaining crew comes back while the remaining three get the drone down via one of the hooks. Once down the three get the drone off the hook and proceed down. Once at the second decent the team lower the drone once again and go down themselves via rope. Now at the third and final descent, the crew lower the drone into the liquid.

Once the drone's inside the liquid command center takes control and goes deeper into the liquid. Approximately 100m deep an increase of temperature is recorded on the drone's camera. Approximately an additional 70m down there's an increase of resistance going down. An approximate total of 400m down the drone approaches a narrow opening too small for it to fit through. The knife end of one of the drone's arm is used for 4min, but the opening still wasn't big enough for the drone. While command center searches for a different opening a drastic increase in temperature is recorded. D2, D5, and D6 all report the increase aswell. Command center decided so leave the area.
Once 40m above the surface the drone drastically slows down. Once at the surface the drone begins to be dragged down by a set of tendrils formed from the liquid. D6 tries to lower the hook to get the drone, but the drone is dragged down. The three return to the moons surface to meet up with D7. They all return shortly after.

Addendum XXXX.3-B

4 days after the last expedition a new drone is available for another expedition. The new drone is constructed to withstand higher pressures and temperatures than the first drone in order to dive deeper into the pool of liquid. Like the previous drone its got 4 arms. 3 being for grabbing and the last one being equipped with a drill instead of a spike. Like the last drone, the new one also has a storage area and light and temperature sensors on its head. The same crew of D-Class personnel is accompanying the drone.

The crew arrive at the cavern with no problem and descend downwards. D-6 stays behind while the remaining crew venture downwards. Once at the final descent the crew lowers the drone into the liquid.

The operation goes smoothly until the drone reaches the small opening the previous drone encountered at the approximate depth of 400m. Command center uses the drone drill hand to drill through. 6min later a big enough hole is made for the drone to fit through. The drone descends an additional ████ meters. At this dept, the drone encounters a large tendril with a red tint to it. Command center argues to leave it or to collect samples of it given the situation and risk of the drone being destroyed. After several minutes it's decided to ignore the tendril for now, but stay near it while descending. Now at a total of approximate ████ meters down the drone notices another tendril growing out of the first one. Like the first one, this one seems to protrude outwards for several hundred meters. At this point, the floor of the cavern is reached, although several holes in the ground are available for further decent, including one where the red tendril is coming from.

An additional ███ meters down the drone exists into a large open area and proceeds downwards. Another tendril is seen at the distance. Like the last two, this one seems to be hundreds of meters long to. Now at the approximate total depth of █████ meters, the drone encounters a large red sphere. The diameter of the sphere is hard to measure from the drones' perspective, but command center guesses it to at least be a few kilometers across. Several large red tendrils are coming out of the sphere. The sphere is also seen several times to pulse similar to a heart. Command center finally decides to rise back up.

Finally at the end of the first tendril command center orders the crew at the top to be ready. The drone then proceeds to collect a small sample of the tendril. Once cut off an immediate increase in temperature is recorded by the drone. The D-Class personnel, however, do not report an increase in temperature. Command center uses what is left of the drone's battery to rise up at full speed. At 200 meters below the surface, the drone finally experiences a large amount of resistance from the liquid similar to the last drone. The drone manages to rise only up to 80 meters below the surface before being almost completely stopped from moving. Command center orders the D-Class personnel to go into the liquid to retrieve the sample, ensuring that the space suits will protect them from the liquid.
None of the D-Class personnel are willing to go down. After 1 minute the drone's motor is almost destroyed and the drone itself is starting to break. Command center tells the crew one last time to go down and collect the sample. Finally D5 and D7 volunteer to collect the sample. D2 lowers the hook into the liquid so that the two could hold onto it to surface up. Once inside the liquid they proceed to dive down. Once at 70 meters down they see the drone. At this point, the pressure from the liquid is starting to have its effect on them. The drone makes a small push forward with the last strength it has. Finally, at 74 meters below the surface, the D-Class personnel makes contact with the drone. D7 takes out the sample box containing the sample. At this point, D5 and D7 start to feel an increase in both temperature and pressure. The two manage to get to the hook and D2 starts to raise it.
Finally the two emerge from the liquid with the sample. The crew comes back alive although both D7 and D5 suffer trauma from immense pressure.

The sample collected is dubbed sample N-1. The sample itself is only 0.8mm across. Microscope analysis reveals cell-like structures making up the tendril. Chemical analysis reveals high amounts of carbon and iron inside the cells.
A test with sample N-1 and S-2 is conducted by placing the tip of sample N-1 into sample S-2. Almost immediately sample S-2 increases in temperature and cracks its containment vile while trying to submerge sample N-1 into itself. Sample N-1 is moved away before this could happen.
At this point, it's suggested that SCP-XXXX is not the event, but an organism with the red sphere acting as a heart, while the red tendrils act as nerves controlling the range liquid through direct contact and immense distance.

Addendum-XXXX.4

During the course of two feeding cycles of SCP-XXXX, it has severely increased in both activity and hostility and has attempted to break into multiple sites on the moon. Because of the ever-increasing hostility of the entity, an operation to potentially reduce its hostility or slow down its feeding cycles was ordered to be conducted.

An operation station was set up near the █████. The station consisted of multiple drills, drones, men, explosives, and rovers for transport. The station was constructed after the last feeding session and immediately started work.

Firstly multiple large drills were used to make a large enough and suitable hole for easier further expeditions. After a total of 58 hours of with both drills on the surface and workers within the caverns, a hole going down to the final descent the diameter of 14 meters across was made.

A drone armed with small scale explosives was lowered into the liquid for testing. Once the drone reached the first red tendril it placed the explosive beside the tendril. Once the drone retreated into a safe distance not to be affected by the explosion the explosive was donated. Most of the tendril within the explosion radius was destroyed. After the explosion, the drone detected a large increase in both pressure and temperature. The drone was crushed within 2 minutes after detonation.
On the surface, multiple personnel within the caverns reported a sudden increase in temperature after the charge was detonated.

A second drone was commissioned to be submerged. After 27 hours the second drone was ready to be submerged. The second drone was armed with large scale explosives and submerged into the liquid. Once ███ meters in the drone detected a large increase in pressure. It was decided that the drone should resurface and wait in case the pressure decreases.
After waiting an additional 8 hours the drone was submerged into the liquid once again. This time the drone did not detect a large increase in pressure at the ███ meter mark.
Once the drone reached the second red tendril it placed the explosive charge and detonated once it was at a safe distance. The drone immediately detected a large increase in pressure and immediately got crushed. Personnel inside the caverns reported a hight increase in temperature and orange liquid seeping through the ground. The liquid inside the pit was also increasing. All personnel abandoned the research station during this time.
11 minutes after detonation the orange liquid has reached the surface of the research site and began to heat up. A radius of 164 meters around the research site was covered. The creature also produced a large number of tendrils within the area. Finally, after 72 minutes the tendrils dissipated and the liquid seeped back into the ground. During this, even no personnel were killed but █ were injured.
A larger-scale operation to reach the creature's heart with explosives was planned after the research station was rebuilt.

An approximate 4 days after the event the site was ready for operations again. Three drones all equipped with large explosive charges were submerged to reach the creature's heart. All three were controlled separately by researchers within the research station. Once at the ████ meter mark all three drones showed an increase in temperature. An additional 97 meters down the drones felt a sharp increase in both pressure and resistance. Because of these factors, the speed of the drones was reduced.
Finally, the drones reach the heart. One of the drones plants a large scale explosive on the heart while the other two drones are at a safe distance ready to detonate their own charges. Once the first charge is detonated the heart is immediately torn at the explosion site and large amounts of dark liquid are seeping through. All three drones feel an immense increase in pressure and heat. The remaining explosives are detonated remotely whether they were on the drones or not. The latest image recorded by the drones showed a large amount of the dark liquid seeping through the heart. From the image, it also appeared that the heart was torn far wider than just the radius of the explosion sites. On the research site, all personnel underground feel a hight increase in temperature after the explosives and retreat back. An increase in the orange liquid is reported underground in the first 7 minutes.
32 minutes after the explosion no immediate response was seen on the surface, unlike the previous test. When personnel went back underground they reported no unnatural increase in temperature, nor any liquid. A new drone arrived after 26 hours and was submerged into the liquid.
It reported no unnatural activity within the liquid nor did it experience any resistance. The first red tendril appeared discolored. The same was seen with the other tendrils further down. Finally, the heart of the creature was wide open where the explosions happened and the area was full of the dark liquid. The drone took samples of the dark liquid and went inside the creature's heart. Inside was semi hallow with what appeared to be blood vessels in the interior. Finally, the drone collected samples from the discolored red tendrils and went back to the surface.

At one of the foundation sites on the moon, the dark liquid was separated from the orange liquid and dubbed samples B-1 and B-2. The orange liquid was also dubbed as samples R-1 and R-2. Microscope analysis of samples B showed structures similar to cells, although most of the cells within the samples were dead. Both samples were frozen.
Samples R-1 and R-2 showed the same data from the microscope and chemical analysis as samples S although they did not react to sample N-1 being submerged into it. Both samples R-1 and R-2 were also frozen.
The samples from the discolored tendrils were dubbed samples L-1, L-2, and L-3. All three of them measured 0,8 cm in length. The microscope analysis of the tendrils showed the same results as with sample N-1. Sample L-2 was placed into sample S-1 and did not have any reaction. The test was repeated with all samples L and S and had the same result. However, sample N-1 was still active when the test was conducted with it the test. The reason why samples N-1 stayed active for this long is unknown.

An additional test was conducted with sample N-1. It was submerged into sample S-2 and given a small amount of organic matter in the form of some beef. The samples were given the matter once a day for one week. After the week both sample N-1 and S-2 had grown in size showing that with the right amount of time and organic matter samples N and S could possibly grow into something similar to the original creature.
